I have heard that Johnson County's Capt. Barton Roby Brown, whom Ellis portrayed as a murdering demon in his Thrilling Adventures of Daniel Ellis, sued Ellis for libel, but I have found no documentation. Has anyone seen evidence of Roby Brown suing Daniel Ellis? Of anyone suing him? Thanks, Allen Allen W. Ellis Professor of Library Services W. Hello Everyone. I am looking for some information on an aunt. Her name was Carrie Teague Forbes. Sometimes her name has been spelled as Carey. She was living in Roan Mountain when her brother died in 1962. She didn't live to long after that. Does anyone have access to death records in this area? I was told she died there. Thanks for any assistance. Sincerely, V. Mark Bray SC

As announced some time ago, I am writing a scholarly book about Capt. Dan Ellis, the Carter County Unionist who led thousands of refugees through the mountains to the Union lines during the Civil War I am, at last, in the writing stage of the book, and I may actually meet my publisher's deadline of the first of autumn. Despite years of research there are some areas in which I have come up short. Over the next few weeks I will send out queries, in a last-ditch attempt to fill some holes. This is the only message board on which I plan to present these, so feel free to share with others of which you may be members. I appreciate and all assistance as I strive to create a fair and balanced work. My first question: I have been unable to locate official Confederate documentation that mentions Ellis. Sources say that there was a reward on his head; Ellis mentions it himself in his Thrilling Adventures (pp. 249-250), which is in April, 1864 in the context of his narrative, but again, I have seen nothing official. Has anyone seen any contemporary documentation of a reward for the death or capture of Dan Ellis, or any other mentions of his wartime activities? Or know where to look or whom to ask? As always, I welcome any leads to any information, images, artifacts, or so forth pertaining to Daniel Ellis. Regards, Allen Allen W. Ellis Professor of Library Services W. Surnames: Williams/Honeycutt Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/EeB.2ACE/438 Message Board Post: I am looking for information on the Williams who lived in Carter County (I believe Elizabethton) as far back as the 1950's at least, maybe much farther. I believe the father's name was Henry, and I know he and his wife had at least one daughter, Lula Mae. She was my late husband's first wife. My children have a half sister out there somewhere and they would love to know more information about her family on her mother's side. Thanks for any help you might give me. Have been searching for quite a few years as have my children. It is possible that the Williams and Honeycutts just may have been related somehow.
