    3. Betty, I read the information after I sent it to you. Unfortunately there isn't anything about Whitetop Mountain except down the page "Outdoor Trips" and just a quick remark of the date they have the walk. But the place appears to be east of Abingdon, VA. Joan On Mar 21, 2010, at 5:17 PM, Betty McCollum wrote: > Can anyone tell me if there was ever a town/community by the name of White Top, Tennessee? Author: dsizemore57 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.tennessee.counties.carter/384.6/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm David A. Sizemore, a great-grandson of Amanda J. Taylor and new to this board. Amanda was was my g-grandmother by way of her marriage to Henry Kane Carter and their daughter Minnie Ida Carter married my grandfather Hillery Walter Sizemore. My family referred to Amanda as "Granny Fain", as she married Ernest Fain after Henry's death and bore several more children from that union. I do recall my late father telling me many years ago that Granny Fain's dad was killed in the Battle of Nashville and buried down there. He said she used to talk about how her mother had to hide them out in the woods along with their food several times during the war to keep the Confederate raiders from stealing it. In doing some research about her father John R. Taylor, I found out more about his death. He was a Union soldier, 13th Tennessee Calvary Regiment Volunteers-Company F and was killed at the Battle of Nashville on 3/15/1864. He was a corporal who had enlisted 9/21/1863, was mustered out 11/8/1863. He is buried in the Nashville National Cemetery, Section E, Grave# 1429. Some interesting history of is regiment is located at the following website: http://www.tngennet.org/civilwar/rosters/cav/cav13/memo.html Amanda's tombstone photo is available at the following Findagrave.com page: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=fain&GSfn=amanda&GSbyrel=in&GSdyrel=in&GSst=45&GScnty=2461&GScntry=4&GSob=n&GRid=20106510& Minnie Ida's tombstone photo is also available at Findagrave.com: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GScid=2223005&GRid=7405647& Her brother Harrison Taylor is also buried in the Sizemore family cemetery. A tombstone (poor condition) pic at: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GScid=2223005&GRid=7405704& I hope this helpful to you! Smith family. How I would LOVE to make contact with you. The connections, prior to John C., are potentially amazing, if we can sort them out. I sadly realize your post to this Message Board in which you say, " "Nathaniel was my great grandfather and John C. Smith was my GG grandfather," is over 5 years old.
