I believe the census year you are asking about is 1860 instead of 1850. If you compare the names found in the 4th Civil District of Carter County in 1850 to the names found in the 1860 Bakersville District of Carter County you will find that they contain many of the same people. I belive this was the area of Limestone Cove, part of which is now Unicoi County, and the present Woodby Hill area of Carter County. That one census is the only instance of a place in Carter County called Bakersville that I have seen. Many of the people who lived there migrated over the mountain from Mitchell County, NC. Maybe that is why they wanted to call it Bakersville. The 1860 census of Carter County is a real mess, districts and inhabitants. I don't believe half the people living here at that time were counted in that census.
