You had asked if Gideon had named any of his children Calvin. My name is Frances Spellings, and I am descended from William John Calvin Spellings who is the brother to Gideon Cullen Spellings. The only other Calvin that I know of so far in the Spellings line is John Calvin Spellings who was the son of Robert Spellings and Lucinda Browning. Robert is also a brother to Gideon. Also when Gideon was married to Malvina Aden, they were appointed wards for 2 orphan boys: James Calvin Victory, b. Aug 11, 1864 and William Lafayette Victory born 1866 or 1867 in Benton Co. TN and could have "possibly" taken the Spellings name. Other than that, no name Calvin shows up anywhere. What is the birth and death date of your great grandfather? This would help a lot. You also mention your grandmother Beulah May Spellings. Could you please tell me more about her? Was her father this Calvin you spoke of? who was her mother? When was she born? Are you from TN? I have lots of information on the Spellings family in TN, TX, NC, SC, MS and would be happy to share any information I have with you. They have some very interesing storeis. As a child I use to spend my summers in TN in Carroll Co., Gibson Co., and Madison Co. I grew up and was raised in Fla. but now live in NC. I try to take a trip back to visit the Spellings kin in Tenn as often as possible and by the way, they a planning a reunion for the future. I look forward to hearing from you.
