    1. Re: [TNCARROL] Civil War Soldiers
    2. That was really interesting info -- I haven't studied western TN too much before this, and I never realized that there was such a split among union and confederates. Plus in the union soldiers I recognized a number of names of families that I have traced from South Carolina as recently as 1840-50. Really brings home the brother vs. brother issue, doesn't it? Thanks again. Zou

The Willie Mai I remember was married to Stanley Butler and they owned Butler's Store in Buena Vista, TN. My grandfather Lee Ellis was a bit related to Stanley and he shopped at their store almost daily. My grandfather was Lee Ellis and he felt like kids ought to have candy so he bought a lot of it for us at Butler's Store. Also I too thought Velma was a sister to Elva but I am wrong if Velma was a Smith. Looo, Kate

Tn Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Carroll/11649 Surname: King, Smith, Wood, Kincannon, Butler ------------------------- Kate, Thanks for your response. Since I posted this message on the Carroll County forum I think I've found some of the answers that I was looking for. I'm sure that Velma married Boose King. I've also learned that Velma's maiden name was Smith. The Smith family is listed on the 1920 Carroll Co. census for dist. 15. I have always thought that Velma and Elva were related somehow. I'm still not sure how or if Velma was related to my grandmother Willie Mai Wood Butler. I've recently found that my grandmother's grandmother was a King. That may be the connection but I'm not sure.

Aunt Kate and full sister Fanny Hilliard were the half sister to Lucion Williams, Lucinda Williams and my ancestor George Thomas Williams. I know little about the Palmers, Greens, and Williams families, any assistance will be cherished. It is believed that Mariah's parents were Jack Michael Green and Nancy McCevy. And the first husband of Mariah was either GE or JE Williams but no more info on his parents. Looooo, Kate

Perhaps she was related via marriage to Boose and Pete King. Pete's widow is a retired teacher named Elva Kee-King. Perhaps Velma was the wife of Boose? This is info I am trying to remember from years long past so it might not be totally correct. Looooo, Kate
