Hello, I am new to this list and am looking for descendants of J.R. McGowan and Isabble Rosalee Caldona Johnson McGowan. J.R. was a Methodist Minister b. around 1853 in TN. He married Isabelle Rosalee Caldona Johnson on the 4th day of December in 1877, Clay County, TN. According to a letter written by J.R. McGowan Isabelle died prior to December 1895 in Carroll County and is buried in the Old Hollow Rock Cemetery. I believe they might have had the following children. Cecil T. b. July 1883; Viola J. b. Jun 1884; Carlos C. b. Aug 1887; and Leona W. b. Aug 1889. There was one other child born around the time of Isabelle's death and I believe it was raised by others. Any help in locating descendants or information regarding this family will be greatly appreciated. Have information on the Johnson line that I am willing to share. Thanks Shelta R. Tn Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Carroll/11722 Surname: GREEN, ROGERS, ROSS ------------------------- Gosh is it possible there were two GREEN & ROGERS families from NC who settled in Carroll Co. TN? One group seems to come from Mecklenburg Co. NC and the other Montgomery Co. NC. I'm looking for Greens from Mecklenburg Co. NC. Moses Green married (#2) Mary Rogers and settled ca 1824 in Carroll County where he died 1852. According to Mecklenburg C. NC records, Moses Green had a brother named David Haynes Green born ca 1790 married Nancy Ross in 1812. Is this the "Nancy Green" age 55 living in the home of Margaret Wagster on the 1850 census? Nancy Green was also listed 1840 census in Weakley Co. TN. I need help sorting through all these GREENS.

Posted on: Carroll Co. Tn Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Carroll/11714 Surname: Green, Rogers, Kerr, Todd, Looney ------------------------- I think there were two GREEN families in Carroll County, TN and perhaps they were not related. I found the Memiors of the Todd Families on the Weakley County website that has Moses Green married Mary Rogers and coming to Carroll County, TN in 1824. With them came Hugh Todd and his wife Narcissus Rogers. It seems Hugh Todd and Moses Green became partners in their land purchase and apparently their wives were sisters and daughters of Joseph Rogers. These family came from Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, and lived in the area of the Steel Creek Presbyterian Church about 5 miles south of present day Charlotte. Moses Green and his wife did not have children (that was his #2 wife) and I believe she is buried in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery and died in 1847 (he is also buried there). His first wife, and the mother of his children, was Catherine Kerr, whom he married 6 Oct 1807 in Mecklenburg County, NC. One son of Moses Green was named John O. Green and he married Rebecca Looney. Their three sons served in the Civil War. Will of Joseph Rogers (Bk.F-72) Jun 1806/Jul 1806; Mecklenburg County, NC. Wife Margaret Rogers. Daus: Asenath, Martha Orr, Mary Russell Rogers, Narissa, Abigail, Margret Story and Betsy Isabella Rogers. Sons: Joseph and John (under-age) Is there anyone else interested in this GREEN family?

Were they related to the Hampton family of Virginia which included Wade Hampton? I believe my 3rd great-grandfather, John Winn, was a grandson of Rosamond Hampton, aunt of Wade Hampton. There appeared to be no WINN relatives who accompanied John and his family to Carroll County in the early 1820's and I'm trying to determine if, perhaps, he had other relatives there.
