Hello Joelene, Thank you very much for your response and for the info. I'm not able to say for certain if there could be a connection to the Belle I am researching because I have so little to go on. She would most likely have been born between 1880 and 1905 My grandfather, Dr. Charles Franklin "Frank" WOOD, b. 18 Mar 1871 in Covington, Tipton Co., TN married Belle M. ????, wife #3, circa 1925 probably in Blytheville, Mississippi Co., AR where he had a dental office. He died 13 Oct 1928 while in Dallas, TX visiting his brother, Dr. Eugene Vernon "Gene" WOOD and was buried in Dallas. My grandfather's dental office at the time of his death was in the GEM Theatre Bldg. in Blytheville, AR having moved from Caruthersville, MO circa 1925. You didn't list the dates but do you think it's possible that your Belle may have returned from NM married again? I have several BLANKENSHIP connections and in Henderson Co., TN including Lexington, in another WOOD Line I have been researching but could not find a James F. WOOD or an Emmaline BLANKENSHIP. (Below is an extract of BLANKENSHIPS from this database.) In my main WOOD line there are also a lot of HALLs from TN in my main WOOD Line. Please let me know if you see anything. Look forward to hearing from you. Best regards, Jesse Lee "Jack" WOOD,III Powell, OH (Formerly from TX) [email protected] P.S. Please forward this to the Blytheville List, Mississippi Co. List, or the AR List if you are a member. Many Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Joelene Koutny wrote: My Great Aunt was named Belle Wood Hall and she is buried in Elmwood. She was born 1889 in Lexington Tenn. and lived her married life in Blythville, Ark. After her husband Sam died she moved to New Mexico where her daughter was living. You did not give the birth date of your Belle Wood so I was wondering if she might have been my Belle's aunt?? Belle had sisters Eliza and Sally and her parents were James F Wood & Emmaline Blankenship Wood. I think that Belle also had an older brother John. These Woods are being VERY hard to locate....I know they lived in Tenn. I know they were in Ark. and I think Mo. Probably is I can not find James F Wood parents or siblings but I know he was born in the 1860's and that Belle was youngest child. If any of these names ring a bell it would be great. I can tell you that about the only way to know who is buried in Elmwood is to be there in person because they don't seem to answer letters. I have been there due to the fact that not only is Aunt Belle and Uncle Sam buried there but so are my Grandparents Arbon and Katie Steed. Katie was the daughter of Eliza Wood and Frank Vermilya. I have a stanard joke "I can't find the woods for the trees" because this is the only branch of the family tree I can't seem to get past a twig. The East Tennessee Historical Society is unveiling a new family heritage program, Civil War Families of Tennessee. Civil War Families of Tennessee (CWFT) seeks to identify and honor the sacrifices of the valiant soldiers on both sides of the conflict. This lineage program will link current descendants with their Civil War ancestors, encourage new research, and combine the experiences of thousands of individuals and families to tell more fully the story of the Civil War in Tennessee. If you are a direct or collateral descendant of any individual who served in Tennessee during the Civil War-Union or Confederate-you are eligible for membership in CWFT. Service may have been in either a Tennessee unit or any non-Tennessee unit which was active in the state. Membership is also open through an ancestor who served elsewhere but lived in Tennessee either before, during, or after the war. In order to recognize the service of the many young men who died unwed and without children, CWFT offers membership through collateral descent also. Like its sister program, First Families of Tennessee, CWFT applications and membership files will be housed in the Calvin M. McClung Historical Collection (Knoxville, Tennessee) of the Knox County Public Library System where together the two projects will provide an unparalleled resource for family and historical research in the Volunteer State. CWFT members will receive a handsome certificate with the names of the applicant and the ancestor, along with the name of the ancestor's company and regiment. A roster of the members and their ancestors will eventually be published in book form. CWFT members will also be recognized at a grand reunion to be hosted by the East Tennessee Historical Society. For additional information about the Civil War Families of Tennessee project, including a downloadable application form, please visit the ETHS web site at www.east-tennessee-history.org. Anyone unable to download a form may request an application form by sending a stamped, self-addressed envelope to: Civil War Families of Tennessee c/o ETHS PO Box 1629 Knoxville, TN 37901-1629 Additional questions about the new CWFT project may also be addressed to [email protected] (Please note that ETHS does not provide email-based research assistance at this time.) The East Tennessee Historical Society, founded in 1834, is one of the oldest cultural institutions in the state of Tennessee. ETHS, a non-profit organization headquartered in Knoxville, is dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and promoting the history of East Tennessee. The society's programs and activities are made possible through the support of its membership. The society's First Families of Tennessee family heritage program was founded in 1992 and now includes more than 13,000 members in 50 states and eight foreign nations.

Hello Joe, Thanks for the response. Sorry it's taken me so long to reply. Below is all the info. I have on any CARTER family members in Carroll Co., TN that I can associate with my g-grandfather. I have been trying to find the parents/siblings of my g-grandfather, Rev./Dr. Jesse Lee (Leonidas?) WOOD who was b. 1839 in Duck Hill, Carroll Co. (now Montgomery Co.) MS. He doesn't show up anywhere until age 21 yrs. in the 1860 Census in rural Dyer Co., TN. Nothing is known about how or exactly when Jesse came to TN or about his parents/siblings other than he claimed to have had three brothers (names unknown) that fought for the CSA in the War although Jesse fought in the 7th TN Cavalry Reg., US Army. I have found two WOOD - Carter connections but haven't yet been able to tie them into my WOOD line. I have a William J. CARTER s/o William Kidd CARTER but have no info. on him. Perhaps this could be your William Jasper CARTER? If so, I would really like to get anything you have on Clarissa Jane WOOD and her father, William WOOD & family. I have a lot of info. on the connections between my LED(T)SINGER line and the CARTER family. Let me know if you need it. Thank you for any help you can give me. I look forward to hearing from you. Have lot's of info on the Carters but little on the Wood family. I also have a Ledsinger connection, but will have to check my files to see how. Hope we connect Joe Carter --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The following is all the info. I have on CARTER family members in Carroll Co., TN which were associated in some way with my g-grandfather, Rev./Dr. Jesse Lee WOOD. James F. CARTER made deposition in 1892, in an attempt to help my g-grandfather, Jesse Lee WOOD get an increase in his Civil War disability pension, stating that he first knew Jesse when he came to live in his father's home in Carroll Co. at the end of the War in July of 1865. Jesse's 1st wife Mary reportedly died during the War in Dec 1864 or Jan 1865 and she is repotedly buried in Carter's Chapel Cemetery in an unmarked grave. Jesse and Mary had a daughter, Anna, born in 1860. It is a mystery why he went to live with the CARTER family since he was disabled and unable to work as a result of his War injuries. Don't know if there was any relationship or who took care of his daughter while he was away during the War and after Jesse's wife died. On 19 Dec. 1866, J. L. WOOD and J. M. DRUMONDS, both of Carroll Co., TN, purchased 126 acres of land for $500. from Isles COOPER which was located in the 8th Civil District of Carroll Co. near McLemoresville. James F. CARTER and R. B. T. CARTER witnessed the transaction before the county registrar on 1 Apr. 1867. Jesse married Nancy Evelener HALL 15 Dec. 1865 in Carroll Co., TN dau of Perry M. HALL and Margaret LET(D)SINGER. All three are burried in Carter's Chapel near McLemoresville. On 26 Jul 1867, Joseph ANDERSON, R. E. CARTER and W. A. GARDNER were involved in the liquidation of the estate of Perry M. HALL after his death 16 May 1867. Jesse was appointed administrator of the estate by the court. After the War, Jesse was recommended on 3 Oct. 1868 for admission to the ministry (on trial) by the Quarterly Conference of the Huntingdon Circuit, a part of the Tennessee Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church (North). He thus became a missionary minister and was first assigned to Galways Church in what is now called Galloway, Fayette Co., TN. In 1869, Jesse was assigned along with T. C. CARTER to Pond Creek Church (originally in Haywood Co., TN) now in Alamo, Crockett Co., TN.
Oh Boy, Tina, do you have any info that would show a connection very early between the ROWLANDs of Lunenberg and some JOHNSONS who lived there??? It would have to be before the 1750's as that is when Rowland JOHNSON was born. He also had a brother Claiborne.... this naming pattern of Rowland and Claiborne continues for many generations, and there is a Claiborne JOHNSON in Carroll County by 1840 who is part of this bunch. Other names that MIGHT have connected instead of JOHNSON were COOK, HOPSON, HAWKINS, FLEMING. Sure would love to find the source of the Rowland name!! Thanks Zou Feagin [email protected] </XMP>

Tn Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Carroll/11757 Surname: GREEN ------------------------- That might be true about the 1800 NC census - I don't know. However I do know there was a GREEN family living in Mecklenburg Co. NC 1775-1794. John Green died Octboer 1794 and was buried in the Steele Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery. I have a copy of his will, and his estate was divided into 7 equal shares - his wife received a child's portion (does this mean she was 2nd wife?) Wife: Margaret Green and children (6) Isaac Green, John Green, Mary Green, Moses Green, Tabitha Green, David Haynes Green. Moses Green married (1) Catherine Kerr who died 1819 and is buried Steele Creek Cemetery. Apparently he married (2) Mary Rogers a daughter of Joseph Rogers who died 1806 and is buried Steele Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Children of Joseph & Margaret Rogers (per will): Asenath, Martha Orr, Mary Russell Rogers, Narissa, Abigail, Margaret Story, Betsey Isabella Rogers, Joseph and John. I'm not sure if "Orr" & "Story" are married names or middle names. So far I have not found a connection between the Green & Rogers families of Mecklenburg Co. & Montgomery Co. NC.

Posted on: Carroll Co. Tn Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Carroll/11754 Surname: Rowland, Green ------------------------- Another notation in my genealogy on the Rowland line says this: Lloyd ( Loyd ) Rowland b. 28 Oct. 1784 NC d. 16 Jun 1856 Huntingdon, Carroll Co. TN NOTES: Lloyd had a sister Elizabeth who married Aaron Green. I guess this Elizabeth Rowland would then be the daughter of Thomas M. White Rowland and wife Mary. This Elizabeth Rowland married Aaron Green, I believe. Their daughter Araminta Green b. Sept. 13, 1802 NC married James Rogers b. May 03, 1801 NC who died May 25, 1865 in Huntingdon, Carroll Co. TN. James Rogers was the son of William Rogers b. 1770 Montgomery Co. NC and wife Nancy E. ( Cheatham ) who some believe also had a "Green" heritage, or surname; however, many have listed "Nancy" as a Cheatham and I have chosen to use that surname for her with notations that her surname is in question. Posted on: Carroll Co. Tn Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Carroll/11748 Surname: Greens, Rowlands ------------------------- Debbie, I do have some information that I will e-mail you later; however, I did want to repsond to this message and tell you and others who could be interested of some information I found on the Rowland genealogy and I have not verified this, so you may want to. According to this Rowland genealogy: "Thomas White Rowland had a son by the name of Thomas Rowland who moved to TN. He went to Carroll Co., TN ( Hollow Rock area ) where he married an Ann Elizabeth Green. They are buried outside of Hollow Rock, TN in a farm cemetery. " Also according to this same genealogy, I believe, Thomas M. White Rowland was b. abt. 1756/1760 Lunenburg, Mecklinburg Co., VA. and died abt. 1800/1810 ( some list 1805 as death yr. ) in Montgomery Co., NC. Notes on Thomas White Rowland included this: "Thomas & Mary may have moved to Orange Co. NC which joins Mecklinburg Co., VA and later on to Caswell Co. NC with her father and may not have arrived in Montgomery Co. NC until 1790. He moved south through NC residing in Mecklinburg Co., VA and Caswell Co., NC. " As I understand this genealogy, I believe that this is how the genealogy would look: Thomas Rowland married Ann Elizabeth Green ( son of Thos.W Rowland & Mary ) Thomas White Rowland married Mary ( son of Augustine Rowland ) Augustine Rowland married Mary ( Hannah ) Ragsdale I know that Loyd Rowland was suppose to be the son of Thomas Rowland ( and believe him to be Thomas White Rowland who is also father of Thomas Rowland who married Ann Elizabeth Green ). That then would mean that Loyd Rowland and Thomas Rowland were brothers, their father being Thomas White Rowland. Children listed for Thomas White Rowland and Mary Harrison Rowland were: Mary Rowland Sarah Rowland Sherwood Rowland Loyd Rowland William T. Rowland Thomas Rowland ( as I understand it, married Ann Elizabeth Green ) Joel ( Joseph ) Rowland Jessie Rowland Henry Rowland Unknown Rowland Some list a Hosea Rowland as the son of Augustine Rowland, making Hosea and Thomas White Rowland brothers. But I have not verified any of this. Tina Rogers Beller
