I really had no other information on that line of Greens. This is what I was recently told about the Rogers of Weakley Co. TN however, as I am researching the Rogers in Carroll Co. TN, who had been in what is now Stanly Co. NC ( was Montgomery when they lived there with the Green line in our family ) and this line of Stanly Co. NC Rogers trace back to a group of Rogers , they say, in Wake Co. NC. At least, some do, and here is what is said about the Weakley Co. TN connection also to Wake Co. NC Rogers: Peleg Rogers and Elizabeth Allen Rogers had children: 1. Job Rogers 2. Peleg Rogers 3. Thomas Rogers ( who m. Sarah and they had a daughter Rebecca who moved into Weakley Co. TN. & is buried there ) 4. John L. Rogers 5. Jubilee Rogers 6. Benjamin Rogers 7. Eunice Rogers 8. Mary Rogers 9. Silvah Rogers 10. Drusillah rogers 11. Elizabeth Rogers The researcher who sent me this info said: " I remember seeing or reading somewhere that two of Peleg & Elizabeth Allen Rogers children migrated to Weakley Co. TN and it seems that at least some of Thomas and Sarah Rogers children followed that same migration. " I have looked at the 1830 Weakley Co. TN census briefly, and did notice that a "Job Rogers" , as well as "Jubilee Rogers" was listed then. ( According to this researcher who sent the above NC Rogers info to me, Jubilee Rogers married Harriet Davis ) I can't tell you if the ones in Weakley are the same ones, but if so, then the that line of Rogers in Weakley Co. TN would trace back into the Wake Co. NC Rogers who are said to have migrated to Wake Co. from Rhode Island. I too, am trying to place our Rogers in that line of Wake Co. NC Rogers earlier, and have always wondered if the Weakley Co. TN Rogers were related to our Rogers in neighboring Carroll Co. TN. Tina Rogers Beller [email protected]

TN" from the same family? According to the will of Moses Green 1852 his heirs were: daughter Margaret E. Mathew M. son John O. Milton Brawley (wife Mary) granddaughter Sally Gaynes Moffett Eliot Miller, his son Moses G. Miller E. G. Everett, his son Moses G. Everett Moses Green married Mary Rogers who apparently was his second wife. Both Moses and Mary are buried in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Carroll Co. TN. According to the Todd Family Memoirs, Mary Rogers and Narcissa Rogers were the daughters of Joseph Rogers of Mecklenburg Co. NC. Mary married Moses Green and Narcissa married Hugh Todd. It looks as though Hugh Todd was the oldest son of Joseph Todd who died between 1817 and 1825 in Mecklenburg Co. NC Narcissa Todd, age 72 NC is living with Moses Green on the 1860 census, Carroll Co. TN, Christmasville P.O. Household #413. Next door is John O. Green, age 49 NC and his wife Rebecca Looney (parents of Moses). Other Todd family members lived in the next household. Other households with the Christmasville P.O. include Joseph Rogers 62 NC (#408), Phillip Rogers 34 NC (#407) Joseph Cooper 40 TN (#406) and John Matheny 39 TN (#405) Nancy Green 70 NC is listed in the household of John Matheny. I believe this is Nancy Ross the wife of David H. Green who were married 1812 in Mecklenburgh Co. NC. Nancy Green was listed 1840 Weakley Co. TN and 1850 Carroll County, TN in the household of William Wagster. Milton and Mary Braley are listed on the 1850 census in Franklin Co. AR. In their household are several Moffett children and it appears Mary was married first to a Moffett/Moffitt around 1834, and her daughter was Sarah Moffett, age 16. John O. Green was born 22 Jun 1812 and died 10 Jan 1895; and is buried in Blooming Grove Cemetery, Weakley Co. TN as is his wife Rebecca and son Robert. Mathew M. Green apparently is listed on the 1850 census Hampton Twp., Monroe Co. AR. His children: Moses C. 15 TN, John P. 13 TN, Mary C. 10 TN, Nancy R. 07 TN, James M. 05 AR and David H. 02 AR. Two other daughters married and died before 1852. Their husbands were Eliot Miller and Elbert G. Everett. I think they lived in Weakley Co. TN

But I am going to post what is on a Green genelogy that I have, but there may have been another Moses Green that this relates to and this is the essence of what is in the Green genealogy that I have: Culpeper Green came from the same line of Greens as Margaret Green who married Joseph Cooper, Jr. Aaron, MOSES, DAVID, & Richard of Carroll Co. TN thought to be brothers of Culpeper and Margaret Green. These Greens moved from Montgomery Co. NC to Carroll Co. TN with John Cox & Joseph Cooper ( father of Joseph Cooper, Jr. ). John Cox wrote the first will of Carroll Co. TN in 1821. John Cox's grandson was Moses Wayne Cox. This appears to me to at least be related to a Moses Green, and the name of Moses even passed on into the Cox line. However, I have no indication whether this "John Green" mentioned is the son of your John Green and thus brother of Moses Green, but the naming patterns alone, would suggest there must be family connections between the Greens of Montgomery ( possibly Mecklenburg ), and the Carroll Co. TN. In reference to Mecklenburg or Montgomery Co. NC as to the census information: Recently, I was sent information on a Frederick Rogers who was said to be on the Mecklenburg Census of 1800. When I checked the original census of 1800 on Ancestry.com, I noticed that Frederick is listed on the 1800 Census of Montgomery Co. NC, not Mecklenburg. I know this to be true as the name of Montgomery Co. NC is written on the left edge of the original census. As someone posted to you, the names of Mecklenburg and Montgomery Co. NC seem to have been combined on the 1800 Census of those two counties. The Rogers lived along the Long Creek in Montgomery Co. that runs along the edge of Mecklenburg/Cabarrus Co. NC and I think maybe Frederick Rogers lived along Rocky River ( as he is on a petition of Rocky River inhabitants back then ). If so, that he lived along the Rocky River, it too seems to run into that general area of Mecklenburg or nearby counties. So maybe by rechecking some ce! nsus reports on your Greens you too might start to see some of these combinations of census reports on your Greens, just as I am seeing on some of the Rogers, ( at least on the transcibed versions ) and now the original version of the 1800 Census in Montgomery and perhaps Mecklenburg. In Anson Co. NC, there also seems to be duplicate listings of some individuals, but I discounted them, as those were transcribed versions of the original census reports, if I recall, of the 1790 Census. But look at the original census reports again, and I will too, and see if we all can detect any duplications or etc. You will notice they would have the same number of children, with same age range, in each duplicate census report. That indicated to me, at least, that perhaps it was a duplicate census report and in error on one of the two counties. However, as all the other Rogers lived in Montgomery Co. NC and were placed just below Frederick Rogers nam on the 1800 Census, I decided! they all had lived in Montgomery. I also noticed that the Aaron Green ( shown as Aron Green ) as well as the Hosea Rowland ( Hosa Roland on Census ) were also listed on the 1800 Montgomery Co. NC census, I think, and must have lived near our Rogers too. Tina

I would love to know if your John Green was Moses' brother. All I know is the will of John Green Sr. (written 1793) indicates his son John was under the age of 14 years. The brothers Moses and John Green also had a younger brother David Haynes Green (born ca 1790) who married Nancy Ross 1812 in Mecklenburg Co. NC. I believe David H. Green moved to Weakly Co. In the Goodspeeds history of Carroll Co. TN it mentions that John Green and William Rogers both were early settlers there. My GGG Grandfather was William Rogers b. 1770 NC ( most believe in Montgomery Co. NC ). We suspect that the Greens and Rogers were friends back in NC and we also know that Aaron Greens line married into our Rogers in Carroll Co. TN, and other Greens did also. Any information that you could send my way on John Green would be appreciated, as your John Green and my William Rogers may also have known one another. William was married to a Nancy, and some suspect she too had Green lineage. The name of "Cheatum" was found in an old diary as Nancy's maiden name, however. We also wonder if Rebecca Unknown that married William and Nancy's son, Basil Rogers b. 1794 NC may have had a Green surname as well. We have many Rogers who did marry Greens in Carroll Co. TN and they are verified! , I believe, but will have to check my computer file to be sure. Please contact me, as I too have quite a lot of Green information. Tina Rogers Beller [email protected]

You had asked if Gideon had named any of his children Calvin. My name is Frances Spellings, and I am descended from William John Calvin Spellings who is the brother to Gideon Cullen Spellings. The only other Calvin that I know of so far in the Spellings line is John Calvin Spellings who was the son of Robert Spellings and Lucinda Browning. Robert is also a brother to Gideon. Also when Gideon was married to Malvina Aden, they were appointed wards for 2 orphan boys: James Calvin Victory, b. Aug 11, 1864 and William Lafayette Victory born 1866 or 1867 in Benton Co. TN and could have "possibly" taken the Spellings name. Other than that, no name Calvin shows up anywhere. What is the birth and death date of your great grandfather? This would help a lot. You also mention your grandmother Beulah May Spellings. Could you please tell me more about her? Was her father this Calvin you spoke of? who was her mother? When was she born? Are you from TN? I have lots of information on the Spellings family in TN, TX, NC, SC, MS and would be happy to share any information I have with you. They have some very interesing storeis. As a child I use to spend my summers in TN in Carroll Co., Gibson Co., and Madison Co. I grew up and was raised in Fla. but now live in NC. I try to take a trip back to visit the Spellings kin in Tenn as often as possible and by the way, they a planning a reunion for the future. I look forward to hearing from you. 2. In a message dated 01/09/2002 7:07:04 AM Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: > To: [email protected] > The Dilday Funeral Home of Huntingdon, TN records the following: Dr. R. Virgil E. Massey was an M. D., General Practice. Dr. Massey died in Huntingdon, TN on 13 Jan 1946, age 54 years 16 days; cause of death was coronary thrombosis. Huntingdon was his residence. He was born 28 Dec 1891 in TN. He was buried 15 Jan 1946 in Oak HIll Cemetery. Dr. Douglass was his physician. Dr. Massey served in World War I. Dr. Massey's father was W. A. Massey - b. in TN. His mother was Denie Pritchard - b. TN. Dr. Massey's spouse was Hazel Harper, age 48 at Dr. Massey's death. The informant was Davidson, who lived in Huntingdon. I looked further and found the death of his spouse, Hazel Harper Massey. Hazel was b. 4 Sep 1896 in TN. She was the daughter of Thomas K. Harper and Lucille Moore. Hazel was a housewife. She died 20 Oct 1977 at 81 years of age. She was buried in Oak Hill also. She died at her residence at 308 Plus Park, Nashville, TN. Her physican was Dr. John J. Wolfe, Jr. The funeral was at Dilday Funeral Home in Huntingdon on Oct 22 by Rev. Pinkley of the Christian Church. Her survivors inlude a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Davidson; 3 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. In addition, I found a son, Willam Harper Massey. William's death information is sketchy in the Dilday records. The record shows he was buried 3 May 1948 at Oak Hill. The record indicates that he served in World War II and his body was returned from overseas so it leads me to believe he was killed in the war.. It also indicates his father b. in TN and mother b. in TN. There is no other info on William Harper Massey. Hope this helps you.
