To All, Peggy Tate asked if I could help out during the Cannon Co. Care & Share Days. I'm glad now I said "yes". I really had no idea of what to expect. I don't think any of us did, whether volunteer or visitor. What we learned during this first time event is that regardless of where we are from, we all share one thing in common. We are all part of a family. While sharing lunch together on Saturday at Joe's Place, it occurred to me that we shared more than just a family blood connection. Actually, I may not have been related to anyone there at the tables (except for possibly Joe Sissom with whom we shook the tree until a connection fell out). But there we sat, all brought together by a common bond of love for family. All brought together is this small rural community in Cannon County, Tennessee. Our roots are entangled in the rich history of this ground. Our ancestors were neighbors, friends, and indeed, relatives, and all were faced with similar challenges of their day and they worked together to overcome the obstacles they were confronted with. They stayed together, prayed together, worked together, ate together, and made a life for themselves and their families in a way that is quickly fading into the past. We would be well advised to learn from those who lived before us and remember that it is the friendship between us that strengthens the bonds of our relationships. From family members we expect a helping hand when times get difficult. It is the unsolicited acts of kindness from our friends, however, that adds the seasoning to life and sweetens even the bitterest of moments. The common bond that we all share pays tribute to the memories of those that lived before us. We are all interested in history and in preserving the best of what these folks were all about. I greatly enjoyed making new acquaintances during the Care & Share Days event. I also enjoyed the opportunity to be among new found friends who share in the love of both family and county history. Such occassions teach us that we really are a part of one large family. Thanks to all who helped with this event and to all those who attended. And to Peggy Wilson Tate, we thank you for the courage to put such an event together. With Kindest Regards, Danny Nichols
Well said Danny ! I know I get off the subject of Genealogy a lot on here, but it opens dialog between us and maybe someone might say how their Grandmother ? cooked biscuits, etc. Then someone else comes in and before long, a name is mentioned. That starts more conversation and maybe some info on that person and then a connection is made, such as Joe and you did. A lot of us do not have much Family left, so just reading a note from people on this Site gives us a sense of want and need. It is just not a connection between our Ancestors, but between us ! It is Family as Danny says. Thanks to all of you ! Kevin
