Have never heard of Milk Snakes.Have you ever seen or heard of a joint snake ? I was maybe 6-7 when my PaPaw called me over to the wood pile beside the smoke house. He showed me this snake,he called a joint snake. He would cut it up in pieces and it would crawl back together.Strangest thing you ever saw. He told me the only way to kill it would be to bury it's head so it could not crawl back together.Yelling my husband about this, some years ago ,gave me hysterics laughter.Thought I was crazy.About 6 mys later, they showed one on these Out Doors Type Shows,
I'm having a hard time buying the "Joint snake" story also.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_snake Jess
Yes , Jess i used to see a few of them when i was a kid . Had always always been told they were joint snakes. Now that i am a little older i find they aren't snakes at all , but a lizard. If you have ever caught a lizard by its tail it will break off , and wiggle for a minute or so.. the lizard will grow another tail Just like the legless lizard , glass snake or joint snake wehich is a lizard after all. I am sure we didn't get in the so called hoop snake stories lol. don Jess Lewis <kr4oj@bellsouth.net> wrote: I'm having a hard time buying the "Joint snake" story also.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_snake Jess ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to TNCANNON-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message --------------------------------- Sick sense of humor? Oh yeah, my cat used to catch those little lizards -- well, she'd catch the tail and the rest would escape. I haven't ever seen the little glass snake (lizard). I found a picture of one (from South Carolina, I think) here: http://www.christourking.org/images/glass_lizard.jpg - Heather http://hblair.uchicago.edu/ On Tue, 15 May 2007, don markum wrote: > Yes , Jess i used to see a few of them when i was a kid . My father used to tell us the same story. We did not believe him then either but we loved the story. I think I remember a story out of one of Vance Randolph's books on Ozark folklore. The tale was that a farmer discovered a joint snake and cut him up into bits. He realized that the snake would just reassemble itself and not stay dead, so he took one of the pieces away to prevent that from happening. Well, the snake tried to reassemble itself, and noticing that a piece was missing, substituted a corncob for that piece. He crawled away. - Heather http://hblair.uchicago.edu/ On Mon, 14 May 2007, m m wrote: > Have never heard of Milk Snakes.Have you ever seen or heard of a joint > snake ?
