If I remember right, Jess listed a Union Soldier buried at Gaither on Locke CreekI am not able to come, but a Cemetry Cleanup day for different Cemeteries would be nice in Cannon County. If agreed days are made, people on this Site could come and meet everyone else. People could bring weed eaters, mowers, things to straighten stones, etc. Could even bring a bag of white castles and have lunch there. Red Eye Gravy on White Castles. Sounds like something Joe and I would like.
Kevin, This is the south. Many folks here had much rather do a sack of "Krystals" than "White Castles. Me included !! Senior special, 2 Krystals, fries & a medium "Coke" for well under $3.00 Yummmm :^)) BTW... most all soft drinks here are "Cokes". Pepsi, R.C. Dr. Pepper, even Sun Drop .... all "Cokes". Just different flavors. Jess
What are White Castles and Krystals? Sun Drop? We don't have those in our area of Texas. Sounds a little like a brand of hamburger and drugs. Orange Crush or a Big Orange soda water? 8>)) Oh, no! I'm sure that's totally wrong. Yep, all soda waters or either soda water or a Coke. Unless someone asks for a Big Orange, a Big Red, an RuhSee, maybe a Dr. Pepper. There was Orange Crush and Delaware Punch, but you seldom hear of those anymore. I hear that you can get the real, original Dr. Pepper still here in Texas at a little place in Navarro county, Bancrofts Pecans, and also where they make it in East Texas, and that town namejust flew out the window, but it's on bancrofts website. Wish we could get the real, old Coca Cola. Sure was good. I just can't take this new stuff. I used to drink a lot of Cokes, almost exclusively, once I was old enough to buy my own food. Now, they taste so bad, I just drink Sprite or 7-Up, which tastes like water, to me. (Well, I started drinking just those 2 things after I had thyroid surgery a few years ago. Ever since then, everything tastes bad.) We had good, sweet artesian water back home, which now tastes like Clorox, with all the chemicals they put in it. Can't take the chemicals in the water, now. And bottled water gives me a stomach ache, so I stick with orange juice, and Sprite or 7-Up. I look at pictures of Coke and Dr. Pepper, and sure wish they had some that taste as good as I remember them. Every day, when I go visit my aunt at the nursing home, she has to have her Dr. Pepper from the machine downstairs. But, when we take her for a ride in the car, we stop for a drink and a chocolate chip cookie, and she wants a Coke! Cecelia in Texas > Kevin, > This is the south. Boy did I run Texas alot in a semi. Had to deliver Penney Catalogs to all those little Catalog Stores t5hey have down there. 45,000 lbs of them in three days hand carried out of the back of the trailer and carried in. Texas has the BIG TEXAN STEAKHOUSE in Amarillo !! Wow, what steaks !! Kevin
Krystals it is then !! I have had both. Enjoyed both, until hours later !! Do they still have graveyard cleaning at the Cherry Cemetery ? When I was young in the 1960's, I went with my Aunt there. Just remember going down this gravel road and the Cemetery was on the right. Seeemed like it went dongrade. There was a house across the street and these young children watched us from the porch. Mostly just picked up the sticks and trash paper. Had a picnic basket with lunch in it. Seems like it was a gathering for my Aunts and Uncles there. Some lived in Cannon. Most lived in Bedford County. My Aunt died in 1970. She thought it was a BIG Thing to go shopping in downtown Murfreesboro or Tulahoma. She had only been to Nashville once in her lifetime. You would have thought the way she talked, she had been to New York. Made these little cakes called tea cakes. I think they were made from Vanilla Cake Mix. I can still taste them. I remember when they buried her, they did not have a vault. They put the casket in the ground and then they put gavelnized sheets over the top of it. Like half circles used indrain pipes. My uncle said it would keep the dirt in place and keep the grave from sinking later on since it would not rust. Ever seen that done down there ? Kevin
