    3. Probably belonged to one of the "Yanks" who came up through Readyville from Murfreesboro, to Woodbury, to round up the Rebel troublemakers. Or could have belonged to one of N.B. Forrest's boys, who came down from McMinnville, to comfort the crying ladies, then went on to Murfreesboro, to retrieve the Rebel prisoners. Jess

    3. Kevin, This is the south. Many folks here had much rather do a sack of "Krystals" than "White Castles. Me included !! Senior special, 2 Krystals, fries & a medium "Coke" for well under $3.00 Yummmm :^)) BTW... most all soft drinks here are "Cokes". Pepsi, R.C. Dr. Pepper, even Sun Drop .... all "Cokes". Just different flavors. Jess

    3. Krystals it is then !! I have had both. Enjoyed both, until hours later !! Do they still have graveyard cleaning at the Cherry Cemetery ? When I was young in the 1960's, I went with my Aunt there. Just remember going down this gravel road and the Cemetery was on the right. Seeemed like it went dongrade. There was a house across the street and these young children watched us from the porch. Mostly just picked up the sticks and trash paper. Had a picnic basket with lunch in it. Seems like it was a gathering for my Aunts and Uncles there. Some lived in Cannon. Most lived in Bedford County. My Aunt died in 1970. She thought it was a BIG Thing to go shopping in downtown Murfreesboro or Tulahoma. She had only been to Nashville once in her lifetime. You would have thought the way she talked, she had been to New York. Made these little cakes called tea cakes. I think they were made from Vanilla Cake Mix. I can still taste them. I remember when they buried her, they did not have a vault. They put the casket in the ground and then they put gavelnized sheets over the top of it. Like half circles used indrain pipes. My uncle said it would keep the dirt in place and keep the grave from sinking later on since it would not rust. Ever seen that done down there ? Kevin

    3. I saw a page on the Internet a couple years ago, where this man in Readyville had found a camp area for soldiers in the War Between the States or Civil War if you are up North here. He had found a lead bullet. It had been carved into a whistle. I think he had it for sale. Readyville must have been a Camp for both sides at that time. Kevin

    3. If I remember right, Jess listed a Union Soldier buried at Gaither on Locke CreekI am not able to come, but a Cemetry Cleanup day for different Cemeteries would be nice in Cannon County. If agreed days are made, people on this Site could come and meet everyone else. People could bring weed eaters, mowers, things to straighten stones, etc. Could even bring a bag of white castles and have lunch there. Red Eye Gravy on White Castles. Sounds like something Joe and I would like.

    3. I contacted a descendant of Joseph Armstrong Brandon to ask about a photo and info on Andrew Jackson Brandon. He does not have a photo and is not aware of any that exists. He has emailed Robert Allen and Diane Miller privately which included a biographical sketch from "Biographical Sketches of Tennessee Baptist Ministers". It is rather lengthy but if anyone is interested in reading it, please let me know.

    3. No, the John Caruthers listed here was John Martin ("Mart") Caruthers, son of Maxwell and Mary Faulkenberry Caruthers. The Tom (or Thomas) I am looking for would be an older brother to Maxwell, and also a brother to Lucretia (Caruthers) (Mrs. James) Ready. But thanks very much for sending this. I appreciate it. 3. Yes, the Gaither / Ready Cemetery on Locke Rd., is on private property. I don't know the property owner's name, but he was very nice and cooperative, when we visited there. The cemetery is on top of a small but somewhat steep hill, along the left (West) side of the road. The owner lives in the next house just past the cemetery, also on the left. He let us drive through his pasture and right up to the cemetery. Jess

    3. Thanks Jess ! When I had looked at Bobby's Page on this Cemetery, he did not have Allice Morgan listed. You had her listed in the Cemetery Book at this Cemetery. That is my Grandfather's sis. She died young and is in the Morgan Bible. Maybe her stone has finally faded away. Thanks again ! Kevin

    3. Way to think outside the box, BJ. I'm just not sure another organization is the answer. How about the Cannon Co. GenSoc create a remote membership category w/ reduced dues, or as you suggest: > Maybe the Historical Society of Middle Tennessee should be carrying the > spear on this one? You locals jump in on this.... what would work best? Joe
