Jess, You got it! I hope your right about the snakes! :) Haven't seen any on my property yet. I'll let ya know Bobby
Merideth, I just checked the 1910 Census, and I have John & Florence in Woodbury, TN with two sons, Lebran, and Raymond. It's showing John being 28, and Florence being 21. Same ones? Bobby Lykins -----Original Message----- From: Meri Allen [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, April 12, 2006 7:32 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [TNCANNON] searching for info on Allen and Travis I am searching for info on John Ervin Allen and Florence Travis. I have a birth for John as being 1882 (this is on his grave marker) and death as 1952 (grave marker). For Florence I have B:29 Oct 1884 D: 1 Sep 1949 ( I got the years from the grave marker and the day and month from family). Here is part of my dilema. I found a 1930 census that has them listed with their children in Cannon Co. so I know it has to be them but their birth years are listed as being three years later. Why would that be and who should I trust for this info for record keeping purposes? I can not seem to find either of these people in a census with their parents. I have the names of Florence's parents as Sampson B. Travis and Minerva Emiline Hays. That is as far back as I have gotten but now I am all messed up over the dates. As far as I know the Allens and Travis' have been in Cannon for quite awhile. Any info or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Merideth K. Bobby, Good luck and have fun, on your trek. The woman at the house near the existing St.John Cemetery might be able to your search, a bit (she lived there in 2001) She was vaguely familiar with where the old house site was, and confirmed that there was a small family cemetery there. However, I believe that she hadn't actually been there herself. Maybe her father. been a while & I don't remember all the details. I certainly would be interested in anything you find, including pics. A little early for many snakes, so maybe you will have a successful trip. Jess Lewis
Sorry if this was meant for me, you were asking when I went to the old St. John cemetery to take some pics. I did on one this evening, but I didn't get to the other one with the old homestead. It was starting to get dark and my friend who knows exactly where it has permission to go through the locked gate. He says he'll take me up there this weekend. He also says the home is really going down fast, what a shame. His wife who is related to the St. John's says there may only be one or two actual headstones and the rest are like Jess says, just fieldstones. If anyone is interested in the pics I have now just let me know. The surnames are: ST. JOHN, BOWEN, and TODD. Connie, I'd be happy to send you pictures of whatever I may find. Would you also like for me to take photos of the old homestead Jess was speaking of? This also goes for anyone else that would be interested. Bobby Lykins

Bobby If you find anything at the Old St. John Cemetery I would be interested. My ggrandmother was a St.John and lived in that area. If you take any pictures I would love it you could email them to me. Thanks Connie Douglas
Jess, I believe I might just have to take a walk or horse ride down in the hollow and have me a look this weekend!! I'll let ya know what I find!! Thanks again Bobby
Bobby, If you are out walking, sometime, go on up the Hollow (away from Hill Creek Rd.) until you come to the St. John Cemetery back off the left side of the road about 150 feet and behind a house (a St. John Family lived there a few years back). Almost across the road from the cemetery, on the South side of the road, is a small dirt lane that leads back into some small hollow. About 1 to 1.5 miles back down this lane, is supposed to be an old St. John abandoned home place, with a small family cemetery. I never went back far enough to find it, as it was reported to be only fieldstones. But, who knows, 'till someone looks at them closely. Folks sometimes in a hurry, overlook small details. Jess
Jess & List, I'd of never thought anyone would've found this one!! You're a good researcher Jess!! :) By the way Mr. Parker says if anyone wants to get it cleaned up have at it!! I may just that, any suggestions on cleaning up on the old limestone markers?? Hi All, I was out looking at some land today, and noticed a small cemetery ( 50' X 50' ) and asked the owner if I could take a look. I don't know if this one is listed in the county books or not, I'm still waiting to find out. But if anyone is interested, there were 36 total marker stones, of those 6 only had initials on them, 4 I was able to get etchings off of and the rest were plain ole flat marker rocks. There were only 2 different surnames; Todd, and Pulliam. I have the other info if this interests anyone. Bobby Lykins
Anybody on the list researching the desc. of Thomas WILLIAMS (b. Apr 1853) & Nancy Isabell SPRY (b. Oct 1855). They are in the 1900 Cannon USC w/ their 10 kids, but we have nothing on them since then and the 4-5 subsequent generations are therefore being deprived of knowing they are SISSOM desc. via Nancy's mother Melissa. In the meantime, if you happen to run across a Sissom desc. we have missed, holler. At our website http://dfc.cc you will find in addition to more Sissoms than you might have thot were, a lot of Parkers, Taylors, Dukes, Simmons, Coopers, etc., that might help you tie something together. Joe Sissom, Irving
A phone call w/ cousin Kokomo John Sissom made me aware of FOUR near contemporary Calvin Dukes vs. the 1 I was carrying as the father of Horace, son of William Parham Duke & Cynthia Morgan. I am not sure I have the right Calvin. This brings into question whether the line of Mordecai > Epps Duke or Wm. Green Duke is involved. I am also concerned about the line of Gideon, b.1822 who also produced some Sissom desc. Who wants to help me sort out this multitude of Dukes? To add to the interest, the Wm. Parham > Wm. Green line owned property adj. to that of Thomas SissoN, the progenitor of the SissoMs in TN, in Brunswick Co., VA. Further, this Tom was appointed guardian of a PARHAM minor and we have long suspected that his wife is a Parham. Coincidnce???? Nah -- don't believe in 'em. Joe Sissom
Linda, et al, FYI, I have Wm. P. Duke & Cynthia Morgan in my d/b at http://dfc.cc and their line downstream to their connection w/ the SISSOM family. This includes lots of Dukes, Parkers, Swnagers, et al. Further connections w/ Sissom decs. via any connection are gratefully requested. Joe Sissom
Linda, Hilery Parker's line to William P. Duke is Robert L. Parker and Myrtle Swanger-John Mathias Parker and Martha Ann Duke-William Monroe Duke and Sarah C. Lynn-William P. Duke and Cynthia Morgan. Back in the early 1990s, someone was doing interviews with Mr. Hilery Parker. I had the pleasure of meeting him at the Ivy Bluff Homecoming in May of 1993 (I think that was the date). Anyway, a young woman was taking notes and stories from him for preservation. Does anyone know if a book ever came to fruition from these efforts? Mr. Parker was related to my Duke family, only I don't remember through whom as I don't have his ancestory.
