In addition to the Adams Library, in Woodbury, The Manchester library in Coffee Co., about 30 miles S. of Woodbury, has a pretty good Cannon collection, also. Lots of people, especially in southern Cannon and northern Coffee kinda drifted back and forth across the not well defined line. The library is open 9 to 5 daily. Open late (9:00 PM) Monday. Tuesday & Thursday. Closed on Sunday. The Coffee Co. Historical Society room in the Court House is open Mondays 9 to 1 PM. Other times, by appointment. The Linebaugh library in Murfreesboro (20 Miles west of Woodbury) also has an excellent research room, with lots of Cannon Co. info.. Not sure of hours but I'm sure at least 9-5 and some nights. Both have an excellent microfilm collection, film readers & printers. Both towns are located along Interstate 24 and have an excellent selection of motels and restaurants. McMinnville (20 miles east of Woodbury, in Warren Co.) also HAD an very good Cannon collection and research room, but they have recently moved. Maybe Ladye Jane can fill us in on Warren Co., today. Keep in mind, that Cannon was formed in 1836. Roughly half the area came from Rutherford and half from Warren. Many records and families have records and histories that extend into these counties. DeKalb Co. was formed a few years later, partially from Cannon Co. Some families and records, of course, extend into that area, also. There was also some line shifting between Cannon & Wilson Co., up in the Auburn (later Auburntown) area. There is a small >> 1834 << map of the area, near the top of the Cannon Co. page at.... http://www.tngenweb.org/cannon/ also, a rough map showing Civil Districts in Cannon Co., the surrounding counties and how they join up at the county lines, is at.... http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tn/cannon/districts.htm Jess Lewis
Yes Brian there is a local library with a Genealogy room. It's not a very large room, but big enough to store what's needed. -----Original Message----- From: Brian Downing [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, April 16, 2006 9:27 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [TNCANNON] Libraries in Cannon County? I'll keep my eyes open. Once I do get some more online, I'll let everyone know too. We do stay busy especially this time of the year with the end of the school year stuff. I was born to be forty though, so I am loving every minute of it. Glad you liked the site. It started with my family cemeteries and has really grown from there. It's not just me though and without the dedicated people taking the cemeteries, it would never have grown like it has. I live in Alabama, so getting the pictures isn't all that easy for me. I owe a lot of thanks to the people who do the photography. At the top of each page is the contact information for the people who actually do the legwork. Be sure and drop them a line of thanks if you find your family. If you get a bounced email, let me know so I can fix the link. They deserve all the praise for doing the work, since most of them are not related to the cemeteries they do. I also have a Sam Arnett, one of Dr. Arnett's sons who moved to Texas, as is shown in one of the tombstones in the Rutherford County Arnett Cemetery on your site. Jess, I have a few Cannon County cems on my site, and if life will ever slow down a while, I have a few more to add. Patsy Patterson and others have sent me the pictures, I just have to find time around three kids to get them online. Go to http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~rutherfordcemetery and there is a search page for you to search the surnames on the page. Most of the cemeteries are from Rutherford County. I will gladly add any Cannon County cemetery pics, but you have to be very patient. Also will gladly link to any page you create. Merideth, I just checked the 1910 Census, and I have John & Florence in Woodbury, TN with two sons, Lebran, and Raymond. It's showing John being 28, and Florence being 21. Same ones? Bobby Lykins That is them. And those ages are more in line with John's death certificate and their grave markers. But I am still confused about that one census. Also, the death certificate has John's mother as Jane Merriman. I found a Sarah J. Allen living with her parents - Merrimans. She is 21 and widowed. But here is the tricky part she has an 11 month old named William F. Allen but the baby is to old to be John. And then ten or twenty years later I found a census with the Grand Parents ( Sarah J.'s parents) and living with them are 3 of their grandchildren all Allens one of them William and one John - birth year matches but no Sarah J. Allen listed. So how is it she was a widow with one Allen child and then years later - she appearantly has two more Allen children but then she comes up missing. This one has really stumped me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Merideth K. Allen --------------------------------- Yahoo! Messenger with Voice. PC-to-Phone calls for ridiculously low rates.

Speaking of this, let us give Thanks for the Greatest Death and Burial this weekend !! The Greatest Gift given to man, the Gift of Life ! Kevin Morgan
Good Morning Jess, I agree about the location of Craddock cemetary. There is or was a happy family of flying squirrels living nearby also. I wouldn't mind being buried in such a place myself. I hate to see the broken and tombstones laying on the ground due to conditions over the many years. I hope something could be done to protect all the old cemetaries. I know what a huge task that would be and to be continuied. I guess we live in a world of wanting things we can't have.
