Kevin, I don't know where your "Gilley" info came from, but as most Gilley genealogy buffs will tell you, whoever put it together is way out in the weeds, at least when it comes to William P. (Peterson) Gilley (generation 4) and subsequent generations of that particular line. I haven't had time to check out the other branches of this info, yet. This is my particular line. For starters, William P. DID NOT DIE IN THE CIVIL WAR. Everyone, who died during the war years, was not necessarily involved in the war. In William P.'s case, he caught and died of influenza, while riding a horse back and forth between a job in Rutherford, while living up on the ridge in Cannon Co., in the dead of winter. Ref: An essay, dictated by his son Jesse Nathanial Gilley, to his grandson, several years later. I have a copy of the original handwritten manuscript. Jess Lewis
Kevin, that was a lot of work on your part, thank you so much. There is not a nicer group than this Cannon Co. bunch. Kevin, my 4th great grandfather Samuel Burk(s), of Cannon Co. TN, had a daughter Mary Elizabeth Burk(s) born 18 Sep 1837. She married William J. Brandon born 12 Sep 1831 in Warren Co. TN. They both died in Christianna, TN. Their children were Roxanne, Joseph, Nancy, Andrew, Alford, and Isham. I believe William's brother was Andrew Jackson Brandon b. 1841. Do you by chance know who was the father of William J. Brandon? The Brandon's are not in my direct line but sometimes these families moved together and tracing the Brandon's might help me with my Burks. Samuel Burk was born in Rowan Co., NC. I am searching for follow researchers for Isaac Finley/Nellie Fowler and son Josephus Finley/Zenobia Swope/Soape Foster. I haven't been able to find Isaac's parents and I need help Thanks Claudia Barnett
If you do not get your answers try posting your question on the Bynum forum http://genforum.genealogy.com/bynum/ I searched for Gilley and there were messages concerning Ibby (Isabella) and Sarah Bynum who both married Gilleys. Hope this is a valid lead.
