"Maw" Jackson, 81, of Coalfield, Juanita Duff Mayhew, 82, Harold Clifton Smith, 97, of Thomasville, N.C., William Arthur "Nick" Nichols Jr., 50, of Clinton, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville. Mr. Nichols was a welder and pipe fitter with the Local No. 102 in Knoxville. He was a member of Blowing Springs Baptist Church in Clinton. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Marie Andrews, of Lake City, and Otto and Katherine Nichols, of Clinton. Mr. Nichols is survived by his parents, Bill and Polly Nichols of Clinton; his sister, Gaye Lundy and husband, Gerry, of Nashville; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at Second Baptist Church in Clinton with the Rev. Jimmy Davidson and the Rev. Mike Thompson officiating. A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of arrangements. Edith A. "Maw" Jackson, 81, of Coalfield, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at her home. Born Dec. 10, 1922, in LaFollette, she was the daughter of John and Addie Young Hatfield. Mrs. Jackson moved to Coalfield in 1944. She was a homemaker and a member of Corbin Hill Bible Baptist Church in Coalfield. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Jackson; two sons, Johnny Jackson and Paul David Jackson; her stepson, James Arthur; her sisters, Thelma Hackler and Nora Thomas; a grandson, Ruley M. Jackson; and a great-grandson, Joseph Seth Jackson. Mrs. Jackson is survived by her children, Letha Sue Kivett and husband, Ralph, of Mossy Grove, Kenneth Jackson and wife, Louada, and Troy L. Jackson, all of Coalfield, Betty L. Armes and Robert E. Jackson and wife, Susan, all of Wartburg, Mary M. Armes and husband, David, of Joyner, and Leona Hale and husband, David, of Oliver Springs; and her stepdaughter, Bobbie Jean Blankenship of Ohio. She is also survived by her sisters, Elsie Hedgecough of Cookeville and Opal Stanley of Mooresville, Ind.; and by 23 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Mary Ellen Crowe of Coalfield was considered Mrs. Jackson's very special friend. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at Corbin Hill Bible Baptist Church in Coalfield with the Rev. David Armes and the Rev. Mark Bass officiating. Burial and a graveside service will follow at Davis Cemetery in Coalfield. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Sharp Funeral Home of Oliver Springs in charge of arrangements. Juanita Duff Mayhew, 82, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004 at Mariner Health of Norris in Andersonville. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the funeral home. Harold Clifton Smith, 97, of Thomasville, N.C., died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at Britthaven of Davidson Nursing Home in Thomasville. Born on April 23, 1907, in Davidson County, N.C., he was the son of Asbury Lowe Smith and Della Cook Smith. Mr. Smith was a self-employed mechanic and garage operator for many years, and was a member of Unity United Methodist Church in Thomasville. He was married on Nov. 19, 1927, to Pauline Garner Smith, who preceded him in death on Sept. 6, 2004. He was also preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. Mr. Smith is survived by his daughters, Aretta Smith Tharpe and husband, Roy, of Thomasville, and Betty Smith Beard of Oak Ridge; his sons, Robert Max Smith and wife, Daney, of Thomasville, Harold Smith Jr. and wife, Linda, of Denver, Colo., and James Clinton Smith and wife, Becky, of Hayesville, N.C.; his sister, Pecola Biesecker of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and by 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, in the chapel of J.C. Green and Sons in Thomasville, N.C., with the Rev. Donnie B. Durham officiating. Burial will be at the Floral Garden Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to Unity United Methodist Church, 134 Circle Drive, Thomasville, NC 27360.
