From the Oak Ridger 10 Nov 2004 Billy Barnett, 76, of Pleasant Hill, Ill., Juanita Duff Mayhew, Herman Postma Elizabeth H. Strain, 74, of Harriman, Dorothy Aileen Wilmoth, 75, of Oak Ridge, Billy Barnett, 76, of Pleasant Hill, Ill., died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at his home. Born June 9, 1928, in Tiptonville, he was the son of John and Maude Vaught Barnett. He was World War II veteran who served in the Air Force in Germany. Mr. Barnett lived in Paducah, Ky., for 30 years and then moved to Oak Ridge. He worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory for 33 years and recently moved to Pleasant Hill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, A.D. Barnett, and by his son-in-law, J. Allen Smith. Mr. Barnett is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shirley Watkins Barnett of Pleasant Hill; his daughter, Laura Barnett Smith of Naples, Fla.; his brother, Lionell Barnett of Paducah, Ky.; his sister-in-law, Bontye Wears and her husband, Paul, of Lakeland, Fla.; and his devoted sister- and brother-in-law, Jean and Lowell McKee of Pleasant Hill. The body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family requests that any memorials be made in the form of donations to Pleasant Hill Christian Church Building Fund, 102 South Main, Pleasant Hill, IL, 62366. Ward-Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill handled arrangements. Family and friends mourn the passing of Juanita Duff Mayhew, born May 5, 1922. Juanita survived the Great Depression, World War II, her only son being sent to Vietnam and the passing of her beloved husband, Noah Mayhew. Juanita is remembered as a warm and loving woman who welcomed anyone into her home. Her talented cooking and engaging stories made any time spent with her a cherished memory. Her children, grandchildren, friends, and extended family will deeply miss the love and compassion she unconditionally bestowed upon them. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Rose Duff, two sisters, Beulah James and Mallie Hunt, and two brothers, Dan and Dale Duff. Mrs. Mayhew is survived by one brother, Joe Duff; one son, John Mayhew; two daughters, Reba and her husband, Steve Brant, and Melanie and her husband, Mike Bowman; three grandsons, Jerry Jones and wife, Susan, Jason Jones, and John Brant; one granddaughter, Ashley Oaks; one great-grandson, Joey Watson; special friends, Helen Stewart and Craig Moore; and many nieces and nephews and a specially devoted nephew, Bill Deaton. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Herbert Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the funeral home. Mr. Postma, 71, was director of Oak Ridge National Laboratory from 1974 to 1988 and retired in 1992 as senior vice president of Martin Marietta Energy Systems. He died of a cerebral hemorrhage Saturday, Nov. 6, in Hawaii, where he and his wife, Patricia Postma, were vacationing. In addition to his wife, his survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Jeannette Postma; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Philip Khinda; two grandsons, Matthew Postma and Tommy Khinda, all of the Washington, D.C., area; and his mother, Sophia Postma of North Carolina. The family has requested that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the Oak Ridge Public School Education Foundation (ORPSEF), 130 Badger Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830. Elizabeth H. Strain, 74, of Harriman, died on Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at the Harriman Care and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness. Mrs. Strain was preceded in death by her parents, Newman and Bessie Hancock, of Knoxville. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ed Strain; and her three children, Renie Strain Meyer of Antioch, John Strain of Tequesta, Fla., and Jim Strain and his wife, Rhonda, and their children, Jessica and Ben, all of Shreveport, La. Mrs. Strain graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in dietetics, and after interning at Vanderbilt University, became a registered therapeutic dietitian. She worked at the Oak Ridge hospital, the Roane Medical Center and the Johnson Nursing home in Harriman. She was active in Grace Lutheran Church, the Girl Scouts, the River Bend Garden Club, the Three Rivers Ramblers Square Dance Club and the Roane County Republican Party. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston. A brief funeral will immediately follow. A private burial will be Friday, Nov. 12, at the Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville. The family requests that any memorials be made in the form of donations to Grace Lutheran Church, 131 W. Gettysburg Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830, or to a charity of the donor's choice. Dorothy Aileen Wilmoth, 75, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at Windwood Health and Rehab Center in Clinton.
