From the Knoxville News Sentinel 27 Nov 2004 FINCHER, JASPER B. - 80, of Oak Ridge, GUYMON, RALPH HERBERT - 85, of Oak Ridge, FINCHER, JASPER B. - 80, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 5, 1924, in Monroe, N.C., he joined the U.S. Marine Corps in June 1942. He served with the First Marine Expeditionary Force in the South Pacific including Iwo Jima, the Solomon Islands, Bougainville and Guadalcanal. He retired in 1986 after 31 years as an experimental machinist at the Y-12 Plant. Mr. Fincher had a love for sports, especially NASCAR racing, and was an avid bird watcher. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Walt, Carl and Ben; his sisters, Wilma and Zona; and a grandson, Carl Pegel Jr. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Fincher; his daughter, Carol Getsi; his sons, Bradley and wife, Mary, of Raleigh, N.C., Rodney and wife, Susan, of Knoxville, and Joe and wife, Angie, of Oak Ridge; his grandchildren, Machelle Brown, Chuck Getsi, Robert Fincher, Tracie Shingleton, Stephen Fincher, Gina Fincher and Lisa Fincher; and his great-grandchildren, Nachole and Kelley Brown, Gabrielle Pegel, Rachel Fincher, Elizabeth and Willard Shingleton, and Ryan Getsi. The funeral service will Sunday, November 28, 2004 at 8:00 pm at Weatherford Mortuary with Rev. John Shaw officiating. Graveside services are Monday at 11:00 am at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Veterans United Honor Guard. The family asks that any memorials be in the form of contributions to Covenant Home Care and Hospice, 3001 Lake Brook Blvd, #202, Knoxville, TN 37909. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen; sons, Greg and wife Sharon, Ken and wife Tracy; daughter-in-law, Shirley; grandchildren, Dominy, Cody, Matt, Michelle, Jon, Jana, William, Ashley, Cheri, Brian, Mason, Morgan and Mickinnon. The family will receive friends on Monday, Nov. 29th from 5:00 - 7:00 pm with a Memorial Service at 7:00 pm at Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge.
