"Sonny" Wells, age 76 of Caryville From The LaFollette Press 11 Nov 2004 Illa Mae Bailey, age 76 of LaFollette died Nov. 2 at her home, after a long battle with breast cancer. She attended Long Hollow Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Lucy Newport; son and daughter in law, Stanley and Janice Bailey; brothers, Alonzo and Paul Newport. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Elvin Bailey; sons and daughters in law, Herman and Cleda Bailey of Jacksboro, Lynn and Pam Bailey of LaFollette, Eddie Bailey of Jacksboro, Danny and Renee Bailey of LaFollette, Michael and Rebecca Bailey of LaFollette; daughters and sons in law, Florence and Lynn Ward of Jacksboro, Erma and James Hatmaker of LaFollette, Joann and Dexter Wilson of LaFollette, Cathy and Ricky Silcox of Jacksboro; brother and sister in law, Ray and Willa Newport; 23 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Funeral services were Nov. 4 at Cross Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eric Gibby and Rev. George Asbury officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Pallbearers were Greg Ward, David Ward, Mark Bailey, Kevin Bailey, Richard Silcox and Anthony Newport. Honorary Pallbearers were Jason Wilson, Dallas Wilson, Austin Bailey, Zachary Bailey, Nicholas Bailey, Christopher Bailey and David Johnson. Cross Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Robert E. Chapman age 81 of LaFollette died Nov. 7 at the St. Mary's Medical Center of Knoxville. He was a member of the Fincastle United Methodist Church for over 30 years. He was a long time local business man. He was in the 1st Marine division of the U.S. Marine corps WW2. He received several medals including the Purple Heart medal and Good Conduct medal. He participated in the invasion Guadalcanal and Palau. He was active in coaching little league baseball and basketball. Mr. Chapman was also an avid golfer and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Lizzie Paul Chapman, and 12 brothers and sisters.He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Chapman of LaFollette; sons and daughters in law, Robert E. and Nancy Chapman Jr. of LaFollette, Curtis Lee and Sanae Chapman of Madisonville, and Charles Randall Chapman of Loudon; .sister, Helen Johnson; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and host of other relatives and friends.Funeral Services were Nov. 9 in the Chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Darrell Ross and Rev. Kevin Cole officiating. Interment was in Fincastle Cemetery with full military services by the Campbell County Honor Guard. Martin Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Floyd Duff, age 76 of LaFollette, formerly of Lake City died Nov. 5 at the home of his sister. He was born Aug. 28, 1928 in Anderson County to the late Earl and Lois Owens Duff. He retired from TVA. He loved gardening. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Ford Town Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Charlsie (Jackie) Duff; infant son, Steve Duff; daughter, Elaine Broadwell; brother, Doyle Duff; sister, Jean Carden.He is survived by his brothers, Clyde Duff and wife, Delphine of Lake City and Joe Duff and wife, Rita of Lake City; sister, Shirley Hatmaker of Lake City; grandsons, Tyler and Joshua Broadwell of North Carolina. Funeral services were Nov. 7 at the Hatmaker Funeral Home with Rev. David Hicks officiating. Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Hatmaker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Letha Fraley, age 86 of Jacksboro died Nov. 5 at the Sunbridge Nursing Home. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Christy Fraley; parents, Alonzo and Emma Moses Shown; brothers, Avery, Clayton, Clarence and Rev. Frank Shown; sister, Ida Bell Shown. She is survived by her husband, Elmer Fraley of Jacksboro; sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Brenda Fraley; Ray and Pat Fraley and Jim and Cliva Fraley all of Jacksboro; daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Larry McCullough of Green-up, IL; ten grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; brothers, Edward and Billy Shown both of Jacksboro; sisters, Geneva Bolinger of LaFollette, Irene Ballard of Elk Valley, Odessa Lewis of Stonington, IL; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral Services were Nov. 7 in the Chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Ray Wilson and Rev. Virgil Farmer officiating. Interment was in Indian Creek Cemetery. Martin Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Orlando Hunley born March 5, 1914 died Nov. 8 at St. Mary's Medical Center, Knoxville. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Della Mae Lamb Hunley; son, Benton Hunley; daughter, Linda Miller; sister, Christine Bilbrey; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were Nov. 9 at Cedar Hill Baptist Church. Memorials can be made to the Cedar Hill Building Fund. East Tennessee Mortuary Service was in charge of the arrangements. Wilma Darlene Lambdin, age 58 of Clairfield died Nov. 6 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville. She is survived by her daughters, Tina Crawford and husband, Jimmy of Clairfield, Tammy Corbin of Goshen, Ind., Michael Head and husband, Jason of Jellico; son, Johnny Webb and wife, Betty of Bristol; grandchildren, Keith Marlow, Kacey Marlow, both of Clairfield, Christopher Corbin of Goshen, Ind., Emily Webb, Lucas Webb, both of Bristol, Susan Head of Jellico, Abigail Webb of Bristol; brother, Michael W. Gibson of Speedwell; sister, Eva J. Brewer of Speedwell; half-brother, Willard Gibson of Baltimore, MD; half-sisters, Beatrice of OH and Mae of Baltimore, MD; a host of other relatives and friends. Dennis Ray May, Sr., age 66 of 145 Rock Creek Ridge Road, Clairfield died at his home on Nov. 5. He was born May 14, 1938 in Clairfield to the late Jim May and Mae Simpson May. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Faye May and Lois Virginia Bray. He is survived by his wife, Landace Marie May of Clairfield; daughters, Teresa Ann Petrey and husband, Roger of Monroe, MI, Sandra Faye Barnes and husband, Damon of Monroe, MI, Cheryl Lynn VanEeckhoutte and husband, Gary of Monroe, MI, Michelle Renee Wagner of Monroe, MI; son, Dennis Ray May, Jr. and wife, Rochelle of Monroe, MI; step-son, Larry Rose, Jr. and wife, Stacey of Monroe, MI; brothers, James May and wife, Sue of Clairfield, Edward Lee May and wife, Gayle of Monroe, MI; sisters, Joyce Thomas and husband, Donnie of Clairfield; 12 grandchildren, three step grandchildren. Bulah Mae (Whaley) Queener, age 89 of Ohio died at her residence on Nov. 4 at 10:05 a.m. She was born Oct. 19, 1915 in Vasper, the daughter of William and Belle (Seivers) Whaley. She moved to Sidney in 1955 from Vasper. She married Roy Queener on Sept. 2, 1933 and he died Oct. 18, 1997. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and caring for Roy and her family. She was preceded in death by her daughter, JoAnn Young, granddaughter, Vickie Heatherly; brothers, Elmer and Jack Whaley; sister, Minnie and Elsie Mae; son-in-law, Elmer D. Housley. She is survived by her children, Joy Baird and husband, L.C. of LaFollette, Betty Housley of Jacksboro, Bobbie Heatherly and husband, R.L. of Union, Oh, Brenda Kizer and husband, Phil of Tipp City, OH, Linda Miller and husband, Terry of Tipp City, OH, Buford Queener of Nashville and Danny Queener and wife, Beth of Russia, OH; 23 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Funeral services were Nov. 8 at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home, Paul Napier conducted the service. Interment was in the Graceland Cemetery. Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. David B. Rogers, age 89, of LaFollette, born May 27, 1915 died Nov. 8. Excluding 4 _ years in the army in World War II, which he entered as an enlisted man and was discharged a 2nd Lt., Mr. Rogers was engaged in the active practice of the law in Campbell County for over 60 years, having received his law degree in 1938 from UT. He served in public office as a delegate to the First Limited Constitutional Convention, as a Federal Civil Service Investigator, as an Assistant District Attorney General, as a General Sessions Judge, and, at one time or another, as City Attorney in each of the four towns in Campbell County.He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of LaFollette, TN, where he served 8 terms as an Elder. And he has been a director of The Peoples National Bank of LaFollette since 1953. He also served for many years as the attorney for the LaFollette Housing Authority, and was named the 1990 Rotary Club Citizen of the Year.He is survived by his wife Ina Mae Rogers; his daughter, Suzanne Cleary and her husband, Edward J. (Ted) Cleary; grandchildren, Janet Lee Hopson and husband, Phillip Hopson of Dandridge, and Jennifer Cleary of Charleston, SC. He is survived by his brothers, Ben F. Rogers and Joe E. (Buddy) Rogers; sister, Jessie Alexander Mitchell. Celebration of Life Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of LaFollette on Nov. 10 with the Rev. Malcolm M. King III officiating. The burial will be a private family service at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family requests that any memorial gifts be given to the First Presbyterian Church of LaFollette or to the Church or charity of your choice. Walters Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Gertrude "Trudy" Singleton of Clinton died Nov. 2 at her residence. She was born in Anderson County to the late Harvey and Maudie Braden Hooks. She was a member of the Longfield Baptist Church where she was the organist. She retired from St. Mary's Medical Center after 28 years of loyal service. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She loved singing, playing the accordion, traveling and spending time with her family whom she loved very much. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lloyd Hooks. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence "Shorty" Singleton of Clinton; son, Victor Carter of Coalfield; brothers, Bobbie and Marylee Hooks of Lake City, Bill and Jewel Hicks of Clinton; sisters, Betty and Bob Hilditch of Ocala, Fl, Rosemary and Jim Adkins of Crossville; granddaughter, Amber Grimsley; great grandchildren, Malachi and Lydia Grimsley; nephews, Roger, Dana, Danny, David and Wally; special uncle, Issac Braden; special cousin, Lillian Hooks. Funeral services were Nov. 4 at the Hatmaker Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Foust and Rev. David Tripplett officiating. Interment was in the Indian Bluff Cemetery. Hatmaker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Gladys Trula Burchell Tinch, age 84 of Sunbright died Nov. 4 in the Life Care Center of Mogan County in Wartburg. She was born March 17, 1920 in LaFollette. She was a wonderful devoted wife, mother and Christian. She loved her children and everyone elses. She had many interests including books, flowers and gardening. She never met a stranger, she loved everyone. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 65 years, Herschel Archie Tinch; parents, Sidney Edgar and Minnie Florence Phillips Burchell; sister, Ruby Edna Ashbrook; brother, Lawrence Burchell; infant brothers, Henry, Frankie and Wilbur; infant sisters, Mabel, Hazel, Ruth, Roberta and one unnamed baby sister. She is survived by her children, Jack and wife, Ruby Tinch, Beverly and husband, Ernie Adamson, Ronald and wife, Linda Tinch, Denver and wife, Carrie Tinch, Sharon and husband, Harold Tompkins, Laurel Tinch; granddaughter, Sarah Tinch; brother, Charles Edward Burchell of Knoxville; aunt, Bonnie Jones of Kodak; seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; many relatives and a host of friends. "Sonny" Wells, age 76 of Caryville died Nov. 2 at the St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. He attended Davis Chapel Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Do Nothing Club of Alabama and enjoyed motorcycles. He was a Veteran of US Army during Peace Time.He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jackie Hutson; parents, Angus and Catherine Bagley Wells; sister, Patricia Ann Wells.He is survived by his wife, Carol Lee Wells of Caryville; sons and daughter-in-laws, Ricky Ray and Joyce Wells of Rincon, GA, Vincent L.
