    2. From the Oak Ridger 12 Nov 2004 Elise Garrett Boles, longtime Oak Ridge professional, Kathleen Breeden, age 79, of Kingston, Marion W. Craven, 90, of Oak Ridge, Shasta Jean Hampton, 16, of Oliver Springs, Elise Garrett Boles, longtime Oak Ridge professional, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, in Maryville. Born May 19, 1924, in Pickett County, she was the daughter of Herman Milton and Mae Winningham Garrett. Mrs. Boles moved to Oak Ridge in the early years with her family. She was a member of the West Village Christian Church. Her special joy was her family. She was very proud of her son and daughter and her grandchildren. When her great-grandchildren came along she was ever-present in their lives. She was a very special mother, memo, and Ann. She always told the children "family first" and "love everyone." Mrs. Boles was a member of the HA, Sierra Club, BOW and American Public Welfare Association. After retiring, she worked as a volunteer at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge in the gift shop. She loved all of her co-workers and enjoyed her trips to Atlanta to buy for the shop. She was known as having a green thumb for growing plants and flowers. One of her favorite hobbies was crocheting. She made sure that both of her children and her grandchildren and close special loved ones had one of her beautiful crochet bedspreads, tablecloths, doilies and other items she had made. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Curtis M. Boles, her beloved great-granddaughter, Cassie Troi Hall, and three brothers, Randolph, J.P., and Leslie Garrett. Mrs. Boles is survived by her son, Curtis M. "Butch" Boles and his wife, Roseanne, of Knoxville; her daughter, Brenda Hall and husband, Larry Faircloth, of Greenback; four grandchildren, Tom Hall, Michelle Hall Duff, Sara Beth Smith and Terre-Marie Boles; six great-grandchildren; Kimberly Hall, Carson Garrett Hall, Jordan Gallagher, Derek Smith, Audrey Jones and Ericia Henegar; one great-great-grandchild, Austin Jones; and a special son-in-law, Larry Hall and wife, Shelly, of Oliver Springs. She is also survived by two sisters, Lillian Bonafede of Jacksonville, Fla., and Veachel Weaver of Jamestown; one brother, Donald Garrett of Muncie, Ind.; and by many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Bryan Lakin officiating. Interment will be private. Kathleen Breeden, age 79, of Kingston, passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004 at Jamestowne Assisted Living in Kingston. She was a member of Roane Church of Christ in Kingston. Mrs. Breeden was preceded in death by her parents, George and Josie Moree Patterson, her husband, Howard "Jerry" Edgar Breeden, her brothers, Tom Rye and John Harold Patterson, and her sister, Roberta Breeden. She is survived by her son, Jerry L. Breeden and wife, Karen, of Morristown; her daughters, Dianne Branham and husband, David, of Miami, Fla., and Linda Hendricks and husband, Ron, of Lenoir City; her grandchildren, Charles Breeden, Sherry Patterson, Heather Bailey, Bryan Burnett, Jennifer Darby, and Robin Breeden; her great-grandchildren, Alex McKinney, Dylan Bailey, and Dalton Bailey; her sister, Leona Burden and husband, Jess, of Claxton; and by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. Burial will follow at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Marion W. Craven, 90, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at her home. She was born Nov. 7, 1914, in Hammonton, N.J., the daughter of George Abraham and Lottie Cook Winterbottom. Mrs. Craven has been a resident of Oak Ridge for three years, moving here from South Hadley, Mass., where she had lived for 67 years. She graduated from Holyoke High School in Holyoke, Mass., in 1932 and from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, in 1936, with honors in chemistry. She was the first woman analytical chemist with General Electric in Pittsfield, Mass., working there from 1937 to 1939. She went on to work in the chemistry department of Mount Holyoke College in 1953, where she also served on faculty and as the director of the chemistry laboratories until 1979. She had been a member of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church of Holyoke since 1928, where she served on the Altar Guild, as a junior warden and as the first woman senior warden. She worked for many years as a volunteer at Holyoke Hospital and served as a board member for Loomis House. Mrs. Craven was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Robert Morris Chapter No. 51. She was an avid bridge player, and she had enjoyed 13 ocean cruises with her family and friends. Mrs. Craven was married for 53 years to Alan Craven, who died in March 1993. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Doris W. D'Antonio. Mrs. Craven is survived by her daughter, Nancy Craven Jacobus and husband, Royden A. Jacobus, of Oak Ridge; her son, Robert Alan Craven and wife, Michele R. Craven, of Santa Barbara, Calif.; her grandchildren, Cheryl Jacobus Herman and husband, Richard, of Thomasville, N.C., Brett E. Jacobus and wife, Lisa, of Burlington, N.C., Kimberley B. Craven of Seattle, Wash., and Matthew A. Craven of Portland, Ore.; her great-granddaughters, Sarah Herman and Lauren Jacobus; and a brother-in-law, Gaetano D'Antonio of Longmeadow, Mass. The body will be taken to Ryder Funeral Home in South Hadley for services at a later date. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, 485 Appleton Street, Holyoke, MA 01040. Weatherford Mortuary in charge of local arrangements.
