From the Oak Ridger 23 Nov 2004 Artie Minton Lay, 93, of LaFollette, Carolyn Knox Johnson, 83, of Oak Ridge, Artie Minton Lay, 93, of LaFollette, entered into her well deserved heavenly rest on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at St. Mary's Health and Rehab of Campbell County. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. Artie was a gentle, devout Christian lady who is leaving to her family and friends an outstanding legacy of what a Christian should strive to be in this life. She accepted the Lord Jesus into her heart as a young adult and had been a member of the Indiana Avenue Baptist Church for the past 45 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kelly Lay; her parents, Sam and Nettie Minton; her 12 sisters and brothers, and her son-in-law, Harold Jenkins. Mrs. Lay is survived by a large and loving family: her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Shirley Lay of Rockford, Ill.; daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda Jenkins of Louisville, Ky., Betty and Ron Tidwell of LaFollette, Charlene and Donnie Jones of Oliver Springs, and Barbara and Joe Powell of Louisville, Ky.; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Junior and Vernie Minton of Middlesboro, Ky.; special nephew, Arthur Massengill of Cincinnati, Ohio; a niece and her husband, Eula and Glen Miracle of Spring City; and a host of other special friends and relatives. The family of Artie Lay would like to thank and recognize special friends and caregivers Georgia Shepard and Jodi Whalen. The family will honor the homegoing of Artie Lay from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004. A praise service will follow at 8 p.m. at Indiana Avenue Baptist Church in LaFollette. The pastor Rev. Mark Partin and Mrs. Lay's grandson, the Rev. Matthew Jones, will officiate. Grandsons and a great-grandson will serve as pallbearers. Interment will be at noon Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at the Baird Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund, 580 S. Indiana Ave., LaFollette, TN 37766. Martin Wilson Funeral Home in LaFollette is in charge of arrangements. Carolyn Knox Johnson, 83, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at NHC Health Care in Farragut.
