From the Knoxville News Sentinel 9 Nov 2004 ELLIS, MILDRED FRANCES HEMBREE - age 62 of Lancing, HUGHES, LOUIS EDWIN - 47, of Oak Ridge, NICHOLS, WILLIAM ARTHUR "NICK" JR. - age 50, of Clinton, ROGERS, MR. DAVID B. - age 89, of LaFollette, TN, SULLIVAN, ALLEN - of Knoxville, ELLIS, MILDRED FRANCES HEMBREE - age 62 of Lancing, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2004 at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville. She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church of Lancing. She was preceded in death by: her father, John Harris Hembree, Sr. and mother, Maude Marie Flippo Hembree; son, John Hembree, Jr., infant siblings, Helen, Billy, and Joseph. She is survived by: her loving husband, Donald Joe Ellis; six children including: two sons, Donald Ellis and wife Sherry of Chattanooga, Ronald Ellis and wife Gina of Coalfield; four daughters, Priscilla Fann and husband Philip of Joyner, Tammula Griffith of Robbins, Marcella Pugin and husband Jean of Virginia, Laura Ledford and husband Michael of Lancing; grandchildren, Amanda Ellis of Kingston, Joseph and Olivia Ellis of Coalfield, Christopher and wife Rhonda Watson of Lancing; Jacqueline and husband Jeremy Coffey of Lancing, Nicholas Watson of Lancing, Alexander Watson of Lancing, Eric Griffith of Robbins, Trevor Griffith of Robbins, Heather and husband T.J. Massengale of Lancing, Andy Melton of Lancing, Mitchell and Allyson Ledford of Lancing; step- grandchildren, Elizabeth and Chelsea Hoge and Christopher Fann of Kingsport; nine great-grandchildren and one step- great-grandchild; sisters, Katherine Howard of Illinois, Wanda and husband Jr. Carmack of Virginia, Margaret Mabe of Chattanooga and Nancy Evans of Lancing; brothers, Glen and wife Evelyn Hembree of Allardt, Bobby and wife Kay Hembree of Wartburg; also, her loving dog, "Mitzy". The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 9, 2004 from 6-8 pm at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg. Funeral services will begin at 8 pm with Pastor Buster Armes and Pastor Bret Pallotta officiating. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, 1 pm in Morgan Memorial Gardens. HUGHES, LOUIS EDWIN - 47, of Oak Ridge, died November 4, 2004, at his home. Born February 23, 1957, in Rockwood, he was the son of John D. and Ruth Sheets Hughes, both deceased. Mr. Hughes was a musician active in the ministry at Grace Lutheran Church in Oak Ridge where he was also a member. Formerly, he was the Activities Director at Briarcliff Health Care Center, Farragut Health Care Center, and Hillcrest Medical Nursing Institute. Mr. Hughes enjoyed playing the piano and the organ and spending time with his family and friends. He was the director of the hand bell choir and a member of two praise bands at Grace. He was instrumental in the development of the contemporary worship ministry there, and he often played piano and organ for weddings and funerals. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by: his brother, David Wayne Hughes, in February 1993. Mr. Hughes is survived by: his brother, Marvin Hughes, of Oak Ridge; his nephew, Jonathan Hughes, of Johnson City; his sister-in-law, Cathy Powell, of Johnson City; his niece, Elizabeth Baird, of Elizabethton; his nephew, Nathan Baird, of Knoxville; his niece, Kayley Sexton, of Kingsport; his nephew, Steven Fletcher, of Church Hill; his dog, Rocky; his church family at Grace; and all of his special friends in the Knoxville and Tri-Cities areas. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 10, at 4 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Stephen Damos officiating. Special music will be provided by Becky Ball, Paula Wertenberger, Brenda Goslee, the Grace hand bell choir, senior choir and praise bands, and other musicians who knew and loved Mr. Hughes. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3 to 4 p.m., and a reception will follow the service in the fellowship hall at the church. Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. NICHOLS, WILLIAM ARTHUR "NICK" JR. - age 50, of Clinton, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2004 at the University Of Tennessee Hospital. He was a member of Blowing Springs Baptist Church. He was a welder and pipe fitter with the Local #102 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Preceded in death by: grandparents, Henry & Marie Andrews of Lake City and Otto & Katherine Nichols of Clinton. Survivors: parents, Bill & Polly Nichols of Clinton; sisters, Gaye & husband Gerry Lundy of Nashville; several aunts, uncles, cousins and host of friends. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm, Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at Clinton Second Baptist Church with funeral services following with Rev. Jimmy Davidson & Rev. Mike Thompson officiating. The burial will be 10:30 am, Wednesday at Woodhaven Memorial Garden. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of all arrangements. ROGERS, MR. DAVID B. - age 89, of LaFollette, TN, born May 27, 1915 died November 8, 2004. Excluding 4 1/2 years in the Army in World War II, which he entered as an enlisted man and was discharged a 2nd Lt., Mr. Rogers was engaged in the active practice of the law in Campbell County for over 60 years, having received his law degree in 1938 from UT. He served in public office as a delegate to the First Limited Constitutional Convention, as a Federal Civil Service Investigator, as an Assistant District Attorney General, as a General Sessions Judge, and, at one time or another, as City Attorney in each of the 4 towns in Campbell County. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of LaFollette, TN, where he served 8 terms as an Elder. And he has been a director of The Peoples National Bank of LaFollette since 1953. He also served for many years as the attorney for the LaFollette Housing Authority, and was named the 1990 Rotary Club Citizen of the Year. He was preceded in death by: his son, Richard Alan Rogers, who died while a graduate student at the University of Tennessee; his parents Judge Jesse L. Rogers and wife, Fannie Alexander Rogers; and his brother Paul Rogers, who died in infancy. He is survived by: his wife, Ina Mae Rogers; his daughter, Suzanne Cleary and her husband, Edward J. (Ted) Cleary; and his grandchildren, Janet Lee Hopson and husband, Phillip Hopson of Dandridge, TN, and Jennifer Cleary of Charleston, SC.; his brothers Ben F. Rogers and Joe E. (Buddy) Rogers; and a sister Jessie Alexander Mitchell. Celebration of Life Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of LaFollette on Wednesday, November 10th with the Rev. Malcolm M. King III officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church from 5 to 7 p.m. preceding the service, which will begin at 7 p.m. The burial will be a private family service at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family requests that any memorial gifts be given to the First Presbyterian Church of LaFollette, TN, or to the Church or charity of your choice. Walters Funeral Home of LaFollette is honored to be serving the family of Mr. David B. Rogers. SULLIVAN, ALLEN - of Knoxville, departed this life Saturday, November 6, 2004 at Holston Health Care Center. He was retired from Oak Ridge Plant in Oak Ridge, TN. He was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities. He was an Army Veteran and member of several organizations including the Elks of Knoxville, No immediate family survivors. Foster family includes: mother, Clara Riggins and family; sister, Sarah Moore Greene and the Tabernacle Baptist Church family. Family will receive friends Tuesday, November 9, 2004 from 10:30 am to 11:00 am at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 2137 MLK, JR. Ave, with funeral services to follow at 11:00 am. Interment at Tennessee Veterans State Cemetery on Lyons View Pike.
