Staats, 82, Julie Ann Peterson, 42, of Clinton, Alvin C. Lowe, 73, a resident of Oliver Springs, Mary Jean Hasting, 84, Miss Ozella Ward, 90, of Cookeville, formerly of Overton County, Lyle F. Lieber, age 89, of Oak Ridge, Evelyn Fullam, of Oak Ridge, Jane Beth Martin, 46, of Clinton, formerly of Petoskey, Mich., Phyllis Ruth Starkey Weber, 79, of Oak Ridge, Nancy Scarbrough, 86, of Oak Ridge, Wanda Lee Gray, 82, of Oak Ridge, Gerald "Gerry" Frederick Ross Johnson, 74, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at his home. He had been a resident of Oak Ridge since 1945. Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War from 1949 to 1952. Mr. Johnson worked in Oak Ridge for Union Carbide, Martin Marietta, and Lockheed Martin Energy Systems, and retired in 1994. He was a member of the Fraternal Lodge B.P.O.E. #1684 and served in many capacities in the organization. Mr. Johnson is survived by his loving companion of 15 years, Lana Kirk Melton. He also leaves behind special friends, Jim Fletcher and Doug and Sharie Purcell, and his four-legged companions, Kate and Fred. In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Johnson's body was donated to The University of Tennessee Department of Anatomy, in Memphis, Tenn. Memorials may be made in the form of donations to The Humane Society of Morgan County, P.O. Box 55, Wartburg, TN 37887. Jessie Louise Caldwell, 88, of Clinton and formerly of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She was born Feb. 16, 1916, in Mansfield, Ark., the daughter of Jesse Clinton Pyles and Lula Elizabeth Henry Pyles. Mrs. Caldwell was a homemaker and a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Solway. She was also a member of the Pythian Sisters, Temple #32 of Clearwater, Fla. She had been an active member of the Oak Ridge Senior Center and was an avid supporter of the Disabled American Veterans. Mrs. Caldwell was an accomplished violinist and loved ceramics, sewing and playing the organ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Oliver Caldwell, in 1965; her daughter, Patricia Caldwell, and her brothers, William Otho Pyles, Joseph Claude Pyles, Clarence Malcolm Pyles and Mel Newton Haney. She is survived by one daughter, two grandchildren, several nephews and cousins, and by her special friends and caregivers, David and Judy DeVaney of Clinton. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. A memorial service will follow at 8 p.m. in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Larry Webster and the Rev. Glenn Sullivan officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Coop Prairie Cemetery in Mansfield, Ark. An on-line guest book may be signed at www.weatherfordmortuary.com Julia B. Staats, 82, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at Windwood Nursing Home in Clinton. She had been in declining health in recent months. Born Aug. 26, 1922, in Salem, W.Va., she was the daughter of Alfred and Julia Bourmorck. She grew up in Marietta, Ohio, and attended Marietta College, where she met her future husband, Percy A. Staats, of nearby Parkersburg, W.Va. They were married in Marietta on Aug. 23, 1944, and came to live in Oak Ridge shortly thereafter as part of the Manhattan Project workforce. Mr. and Mrs. Staats left Oak Ridge in 1946 for Minneapolis, Minn., and later Merchantsville and Riverside, N.J. They returned to Oak Ridge in 1952. When her children were attending Oak Ridge schools, she volunteered as a French teacher. She was a joint-partner of and bookkeeper for Redi-Rent Equipment Company in Oak Ridge. She was an avid watcher of old movies and French films, and videotaped them for her children and grandchildren. She took great pride in instilling the love of reading in her grandchildren. In 1984, she and her sister, Alfreda Rhoades, located and visited relatives in Binche, Belgium. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin brother, Jules Bourmorck, of Tampa, Fla. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Percy Staats; her sister, Alfreda B. Rhoades of Augusta, Ga.; her son, Dr. Thomas E. Staats of Shreveport, La.; her daughters, Ruth Ann Mabry of Farragut, Nancy S. Dailey of Knoxville, and Theresa S. Tipton of Cleveland; her two sons-in-law, George A. Dailey and J. Darrell Tipton; her daughter-in-law, Debra Staats; her grandchildren, Allyson M. Mabry, Erin Mabry, E. Layne Mabry, Lauren M. Person, Kara K. Staats, Erica R. Tipton and Andrea M. Tipton; her step-grandchildren, Stacy H. Carter and Derek Henry; her nephew, Dr. Robert B. Rhoades; and her niece, Pamela R. Langford. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004 at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 8 p.m. on Tuesday in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary, with the Rev. Martin Fischer officiating. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, at the Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Julie Ann Peterson, 42, of Clinton, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at the University of Tennessee Hospital. She was a recreational therapist with the Anderson County Health Council. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University. Mrs. Peterson is survived by her daughter, Katie Peterson, and her son, Matthew Peterson, both of Clinton; her mother, Rose B. Glass of Nashville; her father, Kenneth E. Glass and wife, Betty, of Nashville; her sister, Linda Harrison and husband, Brian, of Antioch; her brother, Steve Glass and wife, Tammy, of Hermitage; her special friend, Mark Peterson of Oak Ridge; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. Other services will be announced later. Alvin C. Lowe, 73, a resident of Oliver Springs, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. Lowe was born Jan. 29, 1931, in Anderson County. He was a lifelong resident of this area. He was a retired electrician who had worked at Oliver Springs Mining Company. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War, where he received two Bronze Service Stars in defense of his country. He also was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church. Mr. Lowe was preceded in death by his parents, Mikey Lough and Lena Smith Lough, a brother, Luther "Luke" Lough, and a sister, Helen Brown. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Lowe of Oliver Springs; his children, Scott Lowe and wife, Sherry, of Solway, Brandy Kreis of Oak Ridge, Mitchell Kreis and wife, Brandi, of Sparta, Jason Lowe of Johnson City, and Megan Lowe of Oliver Springs; and his grandchildren, Shane Seay, Brittany Alcorn, Tiffany Lowe, Nicholas Hughes and Jonathan Hughes. Mr. Lowe is also survived by his brothers, Leon Lough, Albert Lough and Lloyd Lough, all of Oliver Springs, and his sisters, Gladys Hensley of Andersonville and Ester Parks of the Laurel Grove community of Anderson County. A funeral service was held on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004 in the chapel of the Sharp Funeral Home. The Rev. Don Daugherty and the Rev. Clyde Bass officiated. A graveside service and burial was to have been at 2 p.m. today, Monday, Nov. 29, at Anderson Memorial Gardens on Oliver Springs Highway. Mary Jean Hasting, 84, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at the Spring City Health Care Center in Spring City. She was born July 30, 1920, in Hazel Green, Ala., to Arnold Henry and Blanche Violet (Bobo) Baeder. Mrs. Hasting and her husband moved to Oak Ridge during World War II and lived there until retirement in 1976, when they moved to Sevierville. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Sevierville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry C. Hasting. She is survived by her sons, Don Hasting of Knoxville and Ken Hasting of Evansville; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her brother, Ted Baeder of Hazel Green, Ala.; her sister, Geraldine Moore of Plevna, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews. A family memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2004, at the Seymour Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home in Seymour. The Rev. Ed Winters will officiate. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, any memorials be made in the form of donations to either the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Miss Ozella Ward, 90, of Cookeville, formerly of Overton County, died Nov. 25, 2004, at Overton County Nursing Home. Born March 9, 1914 in Overton County, to the late Grover C. and Laura Upton Ward, she retired from the Union Carbide Plant in Oak Ridge. She was a member of the Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, Miss Ward was preceded in death by her sister, Beul Tidwell, and her brother, Leonard Ward. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Charles Tidwell of Gallatin, her sister, Olene Maxwell of Hilham, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral was Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, in the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Brother Mike Tidwell and Brother Kerry Duke officiated. Burial was at the Hilham Cemetery. Lyle F. Lieber, age 89, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
