Devaney Sr., 86, a lifelong resident of Roane County, Carl George Farmer, 86 of Clinton, Jessie Lee Holbrook Manning, 80, of Clinton, Clyde Lee Saylors Montgomery, 68, of Oak Ridge, James Robert "Jim" Waddle Sr., 80, of Oak Ridge, Janette N. Gray, 70, of Oak Ridge, Mary E. Daubenspeck, 69, died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Her family said she was a loving mother and grandmother, and she loved to decorate bears, do crafts and was very artistic. She is survived by three daughters, Cherie Daubenspeck of Oak Ridge, Danita Kuhlman of Lawton, Okla., and Sarita Retherford of Oliver Springs; three sisters, Edna Hale of Checota, Okla., and Voycie Moro and Nina Kelley, both of Brokenarrow, Okla.; and by six grandchildren, Billy Kuhlman, Amanda Denham, Adrienne Childers, Holly Retherford, Lacy Daubenspeck and Derrick Daubenspeck. A memorial service will be at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 29, 2004, in the chapel of Jones Mortuary in Clinton with the Rev. Donnie Disney officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. John W. Devaney Sr., 86, a lifelong resident of Roane County, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville. Born March 5, 1918, in Roane County, he was the son of Thomas Devaney and Grace Mayton Devaney. He retired from Burlington Hosiery of Harriman after 30 years of employment. He was a Baptist. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Franklin Devaney. Mr. Devaney is survived by his wife, Bernice Hendrickson Devaney, of Harriman; two sons, John W. "BILL" Devaney Jr. and wife, Donna, of Harriman and Gary T. Devaney and wife, Darlene, of Oliver Springs; his daughter, Linda Andrews and husband, Ray, of Oliver Springs; four grandsons, John W. Devaney III, Tommy Devaney, Steve Devaney and Will Andrews; and by three great-grandchildren, Justin Devaney, Bethany Devaney and Bradley Devaney. He is also survived by four brothers, Edward Devaney, Charlie Devaney and J.L. Devaney, all of Harriman, and Dean Jack Devaney of Oliver Springs; and by two sisters, Lucille Seals and Marvis Bellamy, both of Harriman. A private graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 2004, at Roane Memorial Gardens. Carl George Farmer, 86 of Clinton, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at Fort Sanders Park West Medical Center. He was a member of Dutch Valley United Methodist Church. He was former owner and operator of Courtesy Gas Station in Clinton, Clinton Feed Store, and he was also a former employee of the Tennessee Valley Authority. He retired from Rust Engineering in Oak Ridge as a machine operator. His favorite hobby was raising Charlais Cattle and donkeys. He was a member of the Clinton Alpha Masonic Lodge, No. 376 F & AM and the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry for 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents William G. and Elizabeth Burris Farmer; sisters, Beulah Peters, Marie Cochran and Ruth McCarty; and brothers, Mack Farmer and Clyde Farmer. Mr. Farmer is survived by his wife Mabel Brown Farmer; a brother-in-law, Jesse McCarty of Knoxville; a sister-in-law, Rushia Farmer of Kingston; several nieces and nephews and his favorite buddy, Outlaw. Jessie Lee Holbrook Manning, 80, of Clinton, died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at home. She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Manning Jr., and by her parents, W.G. and Clowda Huckaby Holbrook. Mrs. Manning is survived by her son, Carl W. Manning and wife, Jeanine, of Knoxville, and by several cousins. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 29, 2004, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Born Jan. 12, 1936, in Sparta, she was the daughter of Gilbert and Elizabeth Lee Saylors, both now deceased. Mrs. Montgomery retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems, where she was a biologist. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Women's Investment Club, the Oak Ridge Country Club and the Literacy Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Saylors and Betty Saylors. Mrs. Montgomery is survived by her husband of 41 years, Billy Hart Montgomery; her son, Fred Gilbert Montgomery and wife, Rose Godwin Montgomery, of Knoxville; two brothers, John Saylors and wife, Linda, of Crossville and William Saylors and wife, Gerry, of Birmingham, Ala.; two grandsons, Matthews Montgomery and Graham Montgomery, both of Knoxville; and by several friends who supported her through her illness. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Steve Martin officiating. Born in Norton, Va., he was the son of Charles Van Buren "Charlie" Waddle and Rose Ann Freels Waddle. Mr. Waddle was a veteran of World War II, having received the Purple Heart. He was a chemical operator for Martin Marrietta Energy Systems for 30 years retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for many years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Garrett, Ova Garrett and Rose Waddle Jr.; a brother, Harley Waddle; and by an infant brother, Charlie Waddle. Mr. Waddle is survived by his daughter, Tammy Waddle Vann and husband, Victor, of Oak Ridge; four sons, James "Jimmy" Waddle Jr. and wife, Sherry, of Oliver Springs, Charlie Waddle of Wartburg, Gerald Waddle and wife, Missy, of Knoxville and Danny Waddle and wife, Joette, of Harriman; and by the mother of his children, Norma Christine Waddle, of Oak Ridge.
