    1. Re: [TNCAMPBE-L] John SMITH/SMYTH, who had five sons, Josiah, James, John, Br...
    2. My I jump in on the Smith families? I am trying to find the parents of my gggrandfather Jonathan Smith. The information I have on him is as follows--- 1. Jonathan was born in Virginia about 1793 according to the census 2. He was born in 1797 according to the death notice in paper 3. He was on Tax List, 1826 through 1838, Whitley County, Kentucky 4. He married a widow, Martha (Mattie) Hughes about 1828-1829, no record found, probably in Whitley Co., KY since both were living there. 5. Census record -1830, Whitley Co., KY; married with Mattie and her children 6, Census record - 1840, Livingston Co., Missouri, he died in this county 22/23 Dec. 1, 1884 Jonathan Smith's and Martha's children were-- 1. Mary Sophronia, born 15 March 1831, KY 2, Rebecca, born about 1833, KY 3. Martha, born about 1835, KY 4. William, born about 1837, KY 5. Sarah Ann, born 1 Jan 1838, KY 6. Jemima, died young, was on 1840 census but not on 1850 census Martha Hughes' (Jonathan's wife) maiden name was supposed to be Chitwood. I haven't found documents proving this. Her first husband was an Isaac Hughes, according to family members. No proof. They were living in Campbell Co., KY when their first child was born. Isaac died just before or just after the twins were born, according to info from family. Their children were-- 1. Elizabeth, born 26 Nov. 1812, Campbell Co. KY, married Jeremiah Harmon on 28 Apr. 1833 in Campbell Co., KY 2. Andrew Jackson, born about 1815 in TN, married Jane Meadows 3. James 4. John born about 1819 5. Francis Marion, born 10 June 1827, KY 6. Milton, born 10 June 1827, KY They all moved to Missouri with Jonathan and Martha. My line is through both the Hughes and Smith families. I would like to connect Jonathan Smith to the Smith families in Washington Co., TN or Knox Co., KY. I have found information that John Smith, born about 1765, owned land in Knox Co., now Whitley Co., KY in 1813. His wife was Jemima Grimes, married 7 Feb. 1788, Washington Co., TN. My Jonathan named a daughter Jemima. Also, Brooks Smith, born about 1766, married Rebecca Daniels on 3 Dec. 1788, Washington Co., TN. Jonathan named a daughter Rebecca. Both marriage dates would fit for my Jonathan, born in 1793 or 1797. I would appreciate any information you might have. Thank you in advance. Mary
