I did change the subject line since we are speaking of the SMITH/SMYTH line now. I'm speaking of Andreas "Andrew" Smyth and Sarah Gregg. I wonder if the John SMITH/SMYTH line out of VA is connected to the ANDREAS SMYTH lin. I am working with Lynda Smith. She has worked on this line and I am wondering abt a connection to his son, John Smyth. Some of her NOTES: She has that little is known of Andrew and Sarah Smith/Smyth after they left the Wilmington, Delaware area. It has been reported that they moved to Orange County, NC, an area where Wyatt, poss. son, was known to be living during some part of the 1790s or possible in 1803. This Andrew Smith had brothers who moved to Washington Co, VA. The only thing that is definite is that they married at the Old Swedes Chuch. After that, everything is largely speculation. The lady who wrote "Quaker Greggs" did say that Andreus and Sarah moved to Orange, NC but she has no data. The Old Swedes Church records stated that Andreus could read and write, as could his father. If Andreus and Sarah died in Orange, there are no records to be found and there wouldn't have been for Sarah anyway. lssmithsearcher@hotmail.com I was working on some of my old Smith's. The ones that I couldn't connect to either Smith line living in Campbell Co, TN. I had worked on this line before but left it go when I saw some of them leaving for KY but now I know that they came back to Campbell Co., TN. There were five sons, Josiah, James, John, Brooks and Ewel Smith. They are said to be the sons of John Smith from VA. I am trying to find where in VA this family of SMITH's came from. I have seen someone state that they were from Yorktown, York, VA but I had not seen any proof of that. Since Brooks is not a common name, I though I would try to track them down thru him. I CAN find a Brooks Smith in the 1810 Census of Knox Co, KY. In 1818, some of Knox County became Whitley Co, KY. I CANNOT find him in the 1820 KY Census. I CAN find him again, in the 1830 Census of Whitley Co, KY. After this, he is gone. His brother, Josiah Smith, married Elizabeth Todd, abt 1804 in poss. VA. They may have moved to Knox Co, KY and been in the part that became Whitley Co, KY in 1818. I have found a Josiah Smith in the 1810 census of Knox Co, KY, but, like his brother Brooks, he is NOT found in the 1820 census of Knox Co, KY. But there are two Josiah Smith's that CAN be found in 1820 of Barren County and Cumberland Co, KY. I do NOT think either of these is the Josiah Smith/Smyth, brother to Brooks Smyth, because they are found again in 1830 in the same places and I know that Josiah Smyth moved to Campbell Co, TN by 1830. There is NO census of Campbell Co, TN, in 1810 or 1820. Josiah and family are also listed in the 1840 Census of Campbell Co, TN. Then they either moved or the county line moved but they are found in Scott Co, TN, where they grow old and die in Capuchine, Scott Co, TN, abt 1852. I have NOT found where they are buried. They end up with at least 11 children. I have seen where someone states that they may be buried in the Lawson Cemetery in Scott Co, TN. They have an Josiah Smith and Betsy Todd Smith listed there but they think that the dates are off. Brother, James Smyth CAN be found in the 1810 Census of Knox Co, KY, but there is 3 James Smith's in that census and I am not sure which is the brother to Brooks and Josiah Smyth, if any. In the 1820 Census of Knox Co, KY, there is 2 James Smyth's, one in Barbourville, Knox Co,KY and one in Brush Creek, Knox Co, KY. I do NOT know if these are the James Smyth I am looking for since Brooks and Josiah do NOT show up in the 1820 census. There is also a James Smyth that shows up in the 1830 census of Whitley Co, KY but none in Campbell Co, TN. Since this name is so common, it is hard to follow him. Brother, John Smyth may be one of the 3 John's found in Knox Co, KY in the 1810 Census. In 1820, there is one John Smith found in State Road, Knox Co, KY Census, and none in Whitley Co, KY in 1820 or 1830. Again, this is such a common name that it is hard to follow him. Brother, Ewel Smyth is NOT found in the 1810, 1820 or 1830 Census of Knox Co, KY, nor in Whitley Co, KY. I DO find one in Louisville, Jefferson Co, KY but I do NOT know if this is the correct one. I have seen his name spelled Euel also. I CAN find one in 1850 census of Campbell Co, TN but he is 31 years old and would have been born abt 1819 from KY, too young to be their brother but I am sure he is related. He is married to Julia Ann, and a Sterling Smith is living with them. I believe that this Sterling Smyth may be a brother to Ewel Smyth, but they are NOT the sons of John Letcher and Helen Ellison Smith. The ages are not correct to be his sons. With this Ewel Symth being born abt 1818-1819 in KY, he could be Ewel, Jr., or a son of Brooks, James or John Smyth. These are just my notes and Lynda's notes on this line. Lynda Smith has more on this line and she can be contacted at the above address. Isn't this fun? Helen
Helen & Leslie, Have you checked Chaulkey's? Erikus and Andreas' brother Tobias who m Mary McDonald ~1748 at Old Swede's, wound up in Washington Co, VA. The majority of his children were b in the 1750's in Augusta Co. They had a brother John who died young ~1752 in NCC. Tobias had a son John b ~1759. He is the only one of the children I know nothing about. It was Tobias' daughter Catherine that married into my McNews in Washington Co. Debra > Leslie > > Hey, it's Helen Smith Hoke.
