From The Oak Ridger 5 May 2004 Catherine Jones Damewood, 57, of Clinton, Clarence Joseph Hochanadel, 87, of Oak Ridge, Imogene Hill Long, 85, of Clinton, Buster Phillips, 69, of Oliver Springs, \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Catherine Jones Damewood, 57, of Clinton, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She was a Baptist and an employee of the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant for 17 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wil burn and Willie Faye Sutherland Jones, and by a son, Brian Damewood. She is survived by her son, Jeff Damewood; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Damewood and Jesse Damewood; sisters and brothers, Ruthell Allen, Louise Clark, Sylvia Calfee, Rickey Jones, Teresa Billips, Darlene Martin and Tim Jones; and by several nieces and nephews. Her family extends a special thanks to her many friends at Y-12 and BWXT Y-12, which has managed the plant since late 2000. The funeral will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2004, at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel in Knoxville with the Rev. Jerry Copeland officiating. Family and friends will meet for burial at noon Saturday, May 8, at Anderson Memorial Gardens on the Oliver Springs Highway in Clinton. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Clarence Joseph Hochanadel, 87, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge. Born Nov. 25, 1916, in Gibsonburg, Ohio, he was the son of Carl A. and Gertrude Nause Hochanadel. Mr. Hochanadel received his doctorate from Indiana University. He was a retired radiation chemist with Oak Ridge National Laboratory with 33 years of service. His family said he was an internationally recognized scientist for his work with atomic energy. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. His family said he was an avid golfer and woodworker. According to his family, Mr. Hochanadel was a devoted husband and father and a wonderful leader of his family. Mr. Hochanadel is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen Marie Phillips; four daughters, Carolyn Gard and husband, Tom, of Hamilton, Ohio, Margaret Cacciatore and husband, Joe, of Knoxville, Ann Runner and husband, Dallas Junior, of Murfreesboro, and Janet Heidel and husband, Drexel, of Knoxville; four sons, Tom Hochanadel and wife, Susan, of Lafollette, John Hochanadel and wife, Debbie, of Ashboro, N.C., and Dick Hochanadel and wife, Diane, and Charles Hochanadel and wife, Nell Anne, all of Oak Ridge; 10 grandchildren, Christy Fry and husband, Tim, Terri Schick and husband, Daniel, Jeff Hochanadel, Bryan Hochanadel, Leigh Langee and husband, Joel, Leah Lavole and husband, Ben, Rachel Runner, Ryan Runner, Alex Heidel and A.J. Heidel; and by two great-grandchildren, Katelyn Fry and Rebekah Schick. A funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2004, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with The Rev. Michael Woods officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens on the Oliver Springs Highway in Clinton. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 6, at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. Imogene Hill Long, 85, of Clinton, died Friday, April 30, 2004, at her residence. Born June 15, 1918, in Idol, in Grainger County, she came to the Oak Ridge area with her parents and 3-year-old brother in 1918, when she was only 6 months old. Her family settled in the Elza community. Her parents owned and operated a general store and grist mill, near where the National Guard Armory now stands. Mrs. Long attended Robertsville High School along with her future husband. After graduation, he left for overseas duty during World War II. Coming home on a furlough, the couple was married May 12, 1942. After his discharge they moved to Oak Ridge and in 1953 moved to Powell. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Knox County in the Karns community for 50 years. Mrs. Long was an avid University of Tennessee football and basketball fan. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Clifton Long; her parents, E.P. and Myrt Coffey Hill; and by her brother, H.H. "County" Hill, a former sheriff of Anderson County. Mrs. Long is survived by her sister, Peggy and husband, the Rev. Stanley Lively, of Clinton, and by several cousins. The family would like to thank Clinch River Home Health Care and Hospice for their loving care given to Mrs. Long during her illness. The funeral was Sunday, May 2, 2004, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Dr. Ron Stewart and the Rev. Mark Brandom officiating. Burial was Monday, May 3, at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Clinton. Buster Phillips, 69, of Oliver Springs, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at his home. He was born Dec. 1, 1934, in Trammel, Va., and moved to Tennessee in 1954. He was a member of Community Baptist Church in Oliver Springs. He was an area arpenter, plumber and certified electrician. He was a former employee of ACE Hardware in Oliver Springs. His family said he was a talented musician and played many instruments. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Stripling Phillips; two sons, David Phillips and Lynn Phillips; his parents, Granville and Stella Hicks Phillips; two sisters, Ruth Carroll and Elsie Bowling; and by a brother, Earl Phillips. Mr. Phillips is survived by a son, Tommy Phillips and wife, Terita, of Oliver Springs; three daughters, Nora Kramerick and husband, Matthew, of West Virginia, Imojean Phillips of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Lisa Patterson and husband, Kenny, of Oliver Springs; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; two brothers, Gene Phillips of Bourbonnais, Ill., and Granville Henley of Bristol; four sisters, Georgia Engstrom of Chicago, Ill., Joyce Phillips of Trammel, Va., Virginia Holbrook of Clinchgo, Va., and Faye Correll of Knox, Ind.; a brother-in-law, Charles Stripling and wife, Marie, of Oliver Springs; a sister-in-law, Billie Baker, of Oliver Springs; special friends, Raymond Duncan, Eddie Coker, Jimmy Smith, Stacy (the Barber), Marvin Justice, the Rev. Robert Combs and George Rather; and by several extended family members and special friends. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2004, at Oliver Springs Cemetery with the Rev. John Shaw and the Rev. Robert Combs officiating.
