Elijah Longmire (Seal) Witnesses: Wm. Rodgers Jas. Walker Wm. McNew Proved in open court 8 Jun 1819 David Strong Clerk Recorded 6 Jul 1819 Benjn. Wheeler, Register CC by Jos. Hart his Deputy [Elijah Longmire is a brother-in-law of Robert Smith, both being married to daughters of Reuben Moss/Polly Ann Jordan. Reference is made to Ransom Smith, a possible brother or close relative to Robert Smith ... himself married to another daughter of Reuben Moss. Anderson Smith is a son to Ransom Smith - Anderson's wife is unknown. The Robertson referred to is Joseph Robertson, from VA who d. in Campbell Co. in 1821 (wife Delilah, no last name). Witness William McNew is apparently md. by time to Sarah Smith, d/o Ransom Smith - his first wife having been Lucy Walker. Need more info on which William Rogers this is, although Mary Walker, wife of Samuel Cowan mentioned in this deed, was first married to a Mr. Rogers (no first name). The writing on the deed referring to witness Jas. Walker could also be read "Jos." Walker. In short, this sounds like a family land transaction ... so WHO IS JACOB SMITH? This shouldn't be an accident of similar names.] In perusing the net this morning, I find the following file with Washington Co., VA, Walkers. If you look through several pages of this GEDCOM, you will find interesting possibilities for the Walkers who later lived in Campbell Co.: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=majmule&id=I3698 This file makes a assumptions, but don't all of our files do so, for Walker is a common name. But the tie-in to the Cowan family ... plus the Washington Co., VA, location ... makes it worth chasing for further info and clues.
