From The Oak Ridger 25 May 2004 Lucy Jane Newman Vanderpool, 95, of Humboldt, formerly of Hi Hat, Ky., Doris E. Hardwick of Oliver Springs Lucy Jane Newman Vanderpool, 95, of Humboldt, formerly of Hi Hat, Ky., died Saturday, May 22, 2004, at Gibson General Hospital in Trenton, Mich. Born Aug. 30, 1908, in Knott County in Kentucky, she was the daughter of Greenbury "G.B." Newman and Miranda Siltanie Akers Newman. She was a homemaker and a member of Community of Christ in Oak Ridge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Vanderpool; six brothers, Wayne Newman, Gomer Newman, Fred Newman, Curt Newman, James Newman and Randall Newman; and by four sisters, Melvina "Pet" Hall, Dove Hall, Lula Brown and Pearlie Newman. Mrs. Vanderpool is survived by her daughter, Joanna Griggs and husband, Bobby, of Humboldt; two grandchildren, Robert Matthew Griggs and Jocelyn Leah Griggs; a brother, G.B. "Jabo" Newman of Hi Hat; and by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at Nelson Frazier Funeral Home in Martin, Ky., with Glen Hayes officiating. Burial will be at Boyd Cemetery in Hi Hat. Roy Frazier, Raymond Newman, Harry Boal, Matthew Griggs, Terry Hall, Eldon Hall, Bud Newman, Landon Frazier and Mark Bowling will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends after 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Doris E. Hardwick of Oliver Springs died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at St. Mary's Health Systems in Knoxville.
