Cline We are informed by tradition that the family of Bart [NEAL]'s wife, Kezia WHITMAN, came from Scotland and settled in VA, later moving to Campbell Co., TN, residing on Indian Creek in the hill country. Kezia's father, Jacob WHITMAN, was b 22 Feb 1781 (d 1 May 1858) m abt. the year 1801 to Sally AGREE, who was b 19 Sep 1783 (d 14 Apr 1866). The country was then inhabited by Indians and it is said that Jacob WHITMAN's father did not like to live among them and wanted to go back to the "old country," but his family wanted to stay. One day he went to bring in some wood and never returned and was never heard of again by his family. It is supposed that he was either killed by Indians, or fulfilled his desire to return to his old home.
