From The Oak Ridger 23 Jun 2004 Helen M. Braunstein, 79, of Oak Ridge, William "Bill" Young Sr., 88, of Oak Ridge, Viola Elliott, 97, Samuel "Newt" Silvey, 85, of Oliver Helen M. Braunstein, 79, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge following a brief illness. She was born Feb. 5, 1925, in New York, N.Y. Mrs. Braunstein held a doctorate in chemistry from the University of Maine and was retired from a long and productive career at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where she worked primarily in the field of environmental sciences. She was a registered professional environmentalist for the state of Tennessee. She spent many years as a volunteer crisis counselor and had been a volunteer patient advocate at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge since 2002. Mrs. Braunstein is survived by three sons, Arthur Braunstein and wife, Renske, David Braunstein and Michael Braunstein and wife, Lori, and by five granddaughters, all of whom she treasured, Eva, Andrea, Hannah, Rachel and Leah. In keeping with her wishes, her family said the body will be cremated and no services are planned. The family requests that any memorials or other remembrances be in the form of contributions to the Methodist Medical Center Volunteer Organization, 990 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. An online guest book may be signed at www.weatherfordmortuary.com William "Bill" Young Sr., 88, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, June 21, 2004, at his home in his sleep. He was born Nov. 18, 1915, in Nettleton, Miss., where he met and married his wife of 65 years, Mable Armstrong Young. They came to Tennessee Aug. 18, 1943, and lived in Clinton until moving to East Village in Oak Ridge in 1948 and then to their West Outer Drive residence in 1952. Mr. Young worked with Stone Webster and then Roane-Anderson Company in housing projects, helping to build the city of Oak Ridge. In 1955, Mr. Young went to work at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant as a pipe fitter. In 1960, he joined H.K. Ferguson Co., Kelloggs Co. and finally the Rust Engineering Co. of Oak Ridge, from which he retired in 1981. He was a member of Lodge No. 756 F&AM and Union Local No. 102 of Knoxville and a long-time member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Linda Young, in 1999, and by his grandson, John H. E. Young, in 1989. In addition to his wife, Mr. Young is survived by his son, William T. Young Jr., of Oak Ridge; his daughter, Hallie Woodworth and husband, Carl, of Oak Ridge; four grandchildren, Tammy Young, William T. Young III and wife, Tammy L., and Joshua Young, all of Oak Ridge and Shane Woodworth and wife, Lora, of San Jose, Calif.; seven great-grandchildren, Jason A. Young, Sara Young, William T. Young IV, Kayce L. Young and Gered Young, all of Oak Ridge, and Haley Ann Woodworth and Ariel Star Woodworth both of San Jose; his nephew, Donny Young, of Pennsylvania; and by his extended family in Mississippi. The funeral will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 2004, at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Duncan Rankin of Covenant Presbyterian Church officiating. A Masonic service will follow at 8 p.m. led by members of Faith Masonic Lodge No. 756. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 25, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
