She is buried in Zion Hill Cemetery, Pine Knot, Whitley Co, KY, along with their son, Thomas B. Smith Jellico Creek, in which I am no authority, is quite a large area being partly in Scott County TN and Whitley County KY. Seems I have heard references to that area. The Thomas Smith Home is still standing in Jellico TN. It is right next to the Jeremiah Smith home ( the Jeremiah Smith home bring known by most as the Llewellen home, the Llewellen Funeral Home is also in this building.). Thomas, Jeremiah's brother built his home next door. I don't think Jeremiah was brother to Thomas Smith. Jeremiah was son of Josiah and Mary Harmon Smith. Josiah Smith was brother to Thomas M. Smith, this making Thomas an Uncle. At least that's how I have seen it. Correct me if I'm wrong. If I'm not mistaken Thomas' granddaughter still lives in the home. Do you know which one? I would love to stop by and get pictures just for fun. My opinion these homes dates to the late 1800's. I believe that is the date reference I saw concerning the Jeremiah Smith Home probably in Miller McDonalds book. I need to get a copy of this now that I am working in this area. I have Vol. 1. Great Book I have always assumed that the Marriage of Jeremiah Smith To Eliza Lay is what brought the Smith brothers to the area which became Jellico. I believe that Thomas M. Smith came to Jellico between August 06, 1862, when his first wife died and January 14, 1863, when he married his second wife, About five months between them. Eliza was the daughter of Jesse Lay son of Elijah Lay son of Jesse Lay and Hannah Lay Baird Lay. Jesse obtained a Land Grant from Ky in what is now Proctor Hollow near Jellico, TN. I have another thought concerning the Pine Knott post office. In early maps of the area and from my understanding of the geography of the area Pine Knott TN, ( although there was a Pine Knott KY also), can be found just across the Pine Mt on the Stinking Creek side. Some Civil War dispatches from this area refer to "Camp Pine Knott". Also in the 1875 minutes of the West Union Association of United Baptists there were 2 Ministers reported as having the Post Office address of "Pine Knott Tenn. " these ministers were from the Little Elk Church which is just a few miles from Elk Valley TN. The ministers were Michael Davis and Wm. Douglas. I believe this Rev. Michael Davis to be the same that later married my Great Grandmother Elizabeth Baird Lay Davis. If so Rev Michael Davis lived just outside the area of what became Jellico ( Falls Branch near Good Hope Church). So the nearest post office was that Pine Knott office. This may have been the post office moved to Jellico. This is interesting. Could not resist putting my two cents worth in. It's always worth more than two cents. lol Gerald Lay
