From The Knoxville News Sentinel 14 Jun 2004 BAIRD, CARL EMITT - age 58, of Jellico, Tennessee, GRUBB, ALEEN BEETS - age 84, of Clinton, BAIRD, CARL EMITT - age 58, of Jellico, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Baird was a member of High Cliff Baptist Church. He was a Veteran of the US Army. Mr. Baird retired from Campbell County Board of Education in 2000 with 30 years of service. He was a former Superintendent of Campbell County Schools, teacher at Wynn School and Jellico Elementary School and an Assistant Principal at Jellico High School. Mr. Baird was instrumental in organizing the American Federation of Teachers Union in Campbell County and served as its President for several years. He was a active member of the Campbell County Democrat Party until his sickness. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, nephew, and devoted friend to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by: his father, Emitt Baird; sister, Shirley Baird Cooper; brother, Johnny Harold Baird; and grandparents, Bill and Minnie Prewitt and Garrett and Adalee Baird. His survivors include: his wife, Brenda Weaver Baird of Jellico; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Lisa Baird of Jellico; granddaughter, Megan Baird of Jacksboro; grandsons, Randy Baird of Jacksboro and Cody Malicoat of Jellico; mother, Norean Baird; sister, Betty Cooper; and brother, Steve Baird, all of Fairview, KY; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 24, 2004 from 6:00-8:00 pm with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 pm with Rev. Leonard Siler and Rev. Horace Partin officiating. Burial will be at 11:00 am Friday, June 25, 2004 at Douglas Cemetery. Llewellyn Funeral Home of Jellico in charge of all arrangements. GRUBB, ALEEN BEETS - age 84, of Clinton, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2004 at N.H.C. Health Care Center in Oak Ridge. She attended Kenneth Ivey Evangelistic Church. Preceded in death by husband, Len Grubb, parents, Elizabeth Hunley Beets, brother, Everett Beets & sister, Alta Hendren. Survivors: daughter, Deborah Grubb of Oak Ridge; son, Len & wife Linda Grubb of Clinton; grandchildren, Lorea Otaduy Grubb of Oak Ridge, Daniel Len Grubb of Clinton, Matthew Allen Grubb that is in the United States Marines, Joshua W. Grubb of Clinton. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM, Friday, June 25, 2004 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home with funeral services following in the chapel with Rev. Kenneth Ivey officiating. The burial will be 10:00 AM, Saturday at Woodhaven Memorial Garden.
