He was a Navy Veteran of World War II and retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratories. Preceded in death by; father, Andrea Jackson Emert; mother, Edna Chaney Baird; wife, Nancy Ingram Emert and brother Jack Emert. Survived by four children; sons and daughter-in-law, Steven Emert and wife Linda of Chattanooga, TN, Daniel Emert and Simone Emert of New Orleans, LA; daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca Burks and husband Charles and Sara Davis and husband Bryan; brother and sister-in-law, William Baird and wife Alice, all of Knoxville; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Family and friends will meet 2:45 pm Friday at Highland Memorial West Cemetery for a 3:00 pm graveside service. He was a very active member of Dutch Valley Church of God having held many different positions in the church. For many years, Mr. Fowler and his late wife had served as foster parents for the Church of God Home for Children. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during World War II on the USS Mississippi and a retired Plasti-Line fabricator. He was preceded in death by: his wife of 57 years, Margaret Brown Fowler. He is survived by: his daughters & sons-in-law, Pam and David Lane of Erwin, TN, Karen and Wayne Casteel of Knoxville, and Patty and Mike Scarborough of Knoxville; grandchildren, Jennifer Ross and husband, Wes, Lisa Lane and fiancé, Justin Williams, Sgt. A resident of Oak Ridge, Tennessee since 1950, he had been in Connecticut since December 2003 for health reasons. Fred was born March 27, 1918 in Bridgeport, CT to Frederick Albert and Edna MacLellan Peitzsch. The family moved to Chicago, IL when Fred was young. He graduated from Harris School in Chicago and from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After a year with the Illinois Tax Commission, he went to the University of Denver as a Sloan Fellow and earned a Masters degree in 1942 in Government Management. Fred worked in Washington D.C. on transportation taxes and in 1943 became City Manager of Pleasant Ridge, MI. In 1945 he joined the staff of the International City Managers Association in Chicago. In 1950, Fred moved to Oak Ridge, TN as assistant to the director of community affairs for the Atomic Energy Commission (now Department of Energy). He served as the City Manager of Oak Ridge from 1951-1959 with the goal of seeing the city incorporated and management of the city passing from the federal government to the city council. During this time he served as staff for the original Oak Ridge charter commission. After incorporation Fred remained with the federal government as their community specialist until he retired in 1980. Fred was active in many civic groups and held office in a number of them starting with vice president of the Jaycees at the time of his marriage. He was chairman of the Emory Valley School and head of its building committee. He was a founding member of the Anderson County Livestock Association and served as president and as secretary-treasurer. He was treasurer for the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association, president of the St. Andrews Society of East Tenn., and Treasurer of the School of Scottish Arts in Banner Elk, NC. Fred was an active member of the Christian Science Society and served in several positions including chairman of the board and as treasurer. Fred's "other life" as he called it centered on the farm in South Clinton that was bought in the early 1950's. There he relaxed learning the management of livestock and tree farming. Fred is survived by: his wife of 53 years, Patricia J. H. Woltz; and their two children and their families: Cathie and Mike Gibbs of Oakdale, CT, with their children Ashley, Colin and Matthew Gibbs, and Robert Peitzsch and Peg Prack of East Lyme, CT, with their children Andrew and Ian Peitzsch. QUEENER, JOHN GLENN, II. - age 62, of Jellico, TN., passed away Sunday, May 30, 2004, at the home of his daughter in Knoxville, TN. Retired from the State Dept. of Transportation. ZIEHLKE, GREGORY S.- 49, of Orlando, Florida, formerly of Oak Ridge, was delivered into the arms of God May 17, 2004 after a peaceful death at home. He was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. A graduate of St. Mary's School and Oak Ridge High School, class of 1972, Greg served his country in the United States Army in Fort Knox, Kentucky, and in Vilsek, Germany. He graduated from the Union Carbide/Oak Ridge Associated Universities Training and Technology program with a certificate in Mechanical Operations. He was employed in Orlando in the construction business for a number of years. Greg will be remembered as being generous with all he possessed, and went out of his way to help the poor and less fortunate. Preceded in death by: beloved sister, Catherine Z. Gengozian, he is survived by: his parents, Kenneth and Eva Ziehlke; sister, Barbara Z.
