Ray enjoyed wood working, gardening, and mechanic work, and had a real talent for working with his hands. PETTY, JOHN LITTLETON JR. age 74, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, June 4, 2004 at the Methodist Medical Center. He was born January 22, 1930 in Atlanta, GA, son of John Littleton Petty Sr. and Irene Hayes Petty. He was a Veteran, serving with the US Army. He received his Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from Georgia Tech and retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems, Hazardous Waste Remedial Actions Program, where he was Acting Director. Mr. Petty was a long-time active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities, one of which was a volunteer group that went to Willowbrook Elementary School, weekly for a reading program. He was also a very active member of the Briarcliff Home Owners Association and also participated in volunteer work at the Methodist Medical Center for many years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: a daughter, Sara Ellen Lee-Collins, January 25, 2004. He is survived by: his wife of 53 years, Allene Hudgins Petty; son, Walter Petty and wife Cheryl of Kingston; 7 grandchildren, James Lee, Jessica Southern, Cody Collins, Tommie Collins, Tracey Collins, Gregory Collins and Sydney Collins, all of Oak Ridge and a great granddaughter, Bailey Lee of Buna, Texas.
