    2. From Thje Oak Ridger 2 Jun 2004 Ralph Marks Moon Jr., 74, of Oak Ridge, William L. Plemmons, 68, Thomas Johnson Wilson, 80, of Clinton, Gregory S. Ziehlke, 49, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Oak Ridge, Harold E. Cornell, 90, of Oak Ridge, Dr. William W. Pugh, 90, of Oak Ridge, Ralph Marks Moon Jr., 74, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at his home. Born Oct. 11, 1929, in Bombay, India, he was the son of Ralph Marks Moon and Lorene Jeffery Moon of Houghton, Mich. The family returned to the United States in 1931, settling in Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Moon was a graduate of the University of Kansas, with a bachelor's degree in physics in 1950 and a master's degree in physics in 1952. He was named to Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi and was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. In 1950, he married Barbara Katherine Longfellow. He worked for two years at the Naval Ordinance Testing Station, China Lake, Calif., and then served three years in the Navy as a Guided Missile Officer. In 1963, Mr. Moon earned a doctorate degree in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where his thesis advisor was Nobel Prize winner Dr. Clifford Shull. He came to Oak Ridge in 1963, where he worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory until his retirement in 1994. At ORNL, Mr. Moon served as head of the Neutron Scattering Section, and associate director and acting director of the Solid State Division. His special area of expertise was neutron scattering, a tool used to reveal the fundamental properties of magnetic materials. Mr. Moon worked in the development of the neutron polarization analysis technique that is used at centers for study of neutron scattering throughout the world. The author of over 100 scientific papers, Mr. Moon was elected a Martin Marietta Corporate Fellow, a Fellow of the American Physical Society and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. After retirement, he continued to work at the laboratory, consulting and working on instrumentation upgrades for the renovation of the High Flux Isotope Reactor. He also served on the Curriculum Committee of Oak Ridge Institute for Continued Learning and was a board member of Friends of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He was a member of the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church. In addition to his wife of 53 years, Mr. Moon is survived by three daughters, Kathy Kelly and husband, Gary, of Oak Ridge, Laura Gardner and husband, Grant, of Puyallup, Wash., and Mary Ann Moon of Knoxville, and by his son, David Longfellow Moon and wife, Naomi, of Broomfield, Colo. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Patrick Kelly and wife, Heather, of Columbia, S.C., John Kelly, Daniel Gardner, Philip Gardner, Emma Moon and Allison Moon; a brother, John J. Moon and wife, Lois, of Bartlesville, Okla.; and by a sister, Mary Alice Moon of Indianapolis, Ind. A memorial service will be held at a later date. He is survived by his wife, Carol Plemmons; two sons, Joseph Andrew Plemmons of Nashville and Mark Plemmons and wife, Beth, of Oak Ridge; his daughter, Kim Plemmons, of Lavergne; two grandchildren, Taylor Plemmons and Carson Plemmons; his father, C.F. Plemmons, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two brothers, Michael Plemmons of St. Petersburg and Barry Plemmons of Brooksville, Fla.; and by his sister, Ann Marie Black and husband, Gerald, of Hernando, Fla. A funeral Mass will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Nashville with the Rev. Philip Breen officiating. Burial will be at the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Nashville. The family requests any memorials be sent to St. Ann Catholic Church, 5105 Charlotte Ave., Nashville, TN 37209. Thomas Johnson Wilson, 80, of Clinton, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born April 6, 1924, in Blackey, Ky., he was the son of James Taylor Wilson and Elizabeth Griffith Wilson. Mr. Wilson was retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems after 35 years of service. He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church. He was a 50-year member of Oak Ridge Masonic Faith Lodge No. 756 and a member of Knox Kerbela Temple, Kerbela Oriental Band, Royal Order of Jester, Chevalier Commanders No. 21 of Knights Temple, Oak Ridge Elks Club and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Grace Louise Wilson, Christine Adkins, Elizabeth Creekmore and Thelma Lewallen. Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife of 60 years, Billie M. Wilson; his mother-in-law, Thelma Miller; two sons, Thomas Wilson and wife, Linda, of Oak Ridge and James A. Wilson and wife, Joann, of Clinton; his brother, George M. Wilson and wife, Jennie, of Clinton; a sister, Lillian Archer, of Knoxville; three grandchildren, Jennifer Koshlap, Kristin Wilson and Lauren Wilson; two stepgrandchildren, Billy Goins and Tiffany Goins; a great-grandson, James Garrett Wilson; and by several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2004, with Masonic services and the funeral to follow with the Rev. Mahan Archer officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 3, at Anderson Memorial Gardens on the Oliver Springs Highway in Clinton. Ziehlke, 49, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Oak Ridge, died Monday, May 17, 2004, at home. He was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. A graduate of St. Mary's School and Oak Ridge High School, class of 1972, Mr. Ziehlke served his country in the U.S. Army in Fort Knox, Ky., and in Vilsek, Germany. He graduated from a training and technology program through Oak Ridge Associated Universities with a certificate in mechanical operations. He was employed in Orlando in the construction business for a number of years. Mr. Ziehlke will be remembered as being generous with all he possessed, and went out of his way to help the poor and less fortunate, his family said. He was preceded in death by a beloved sister, Catherine Z. Gengozian. Mr. Ziehlke is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Eva Ziehlke, of Oak Ridge; two sisters, Barbara Z. Philpot and husband, Halen, of Oak Ridge and Judith Z. Mallory and husband, Richard, of Knoxville; his brother-in-law, David Gengozian, of Oak Ridge; three cousins, Doug Bost of Oak Ridge, Robin Parkison and husband, Jeff, of Kingston, and Michael Thomas of Knoxville; four nieces, Carmen Philpot, Merritt Philpot and Lauren Gengozian, all of Oak Ridge, and Dana G. Rose and husband, Ted, of Sarasota, Fla.; a nephew, Max Mallory, of Knoxville; and by a grandnephew, Casey Rose, of Sarasota. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2004, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Woods officiating.
