JOE B. - 83, of Huntsville, PHILLIPS, WILLIAM EDWARD (ED) - age 95 of Lenoir City PIERCE, GERALD - age 81 of Kingston, formally of Oak Ridge, RUSH, KEN - age 68 of Claxton STEPHENS, RUTH JODY - age 87, of Clinton, DUNCAN, B. SELVA - of Clinton, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2004 at Methodist Medical Center. She was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church. She was born in Bybee, Tennessee, on a rainy day, February 18, 1921. She was the daughter of Abby & Missouri Dyke. In her earlier days she worked at Gormley's 5 & 10 cents store. She enjoyed playing the piano & violin, and reading & drawing. She also knitted & crocheted. She was very outgoing & enjoyed talking with others. She lived in Newport before moving to Clinton. She was a cheerleader for the Clinton High School Dragons. She loved watching football games. She was active in church & baked food for St. Marks fund raising dinners. When her son was ill with Wilson's disease a local doctor said her son was going to die, she didn't give up. With God's guidance, she found a Clinic that was researching the genetic disorder and his condition improved with her guidance and encouragement. He went on to UT receiving three degrees in electrical engineering, thanks to her. Survivors: husband, Mikey J. Duncan of Clinton; son, Michael Gary Duncan of Clinton; brother, Ruble Dyke of Knoxville. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM, Monday, June 28, 2004 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home with funeral services following in the chapel with Rev. Wayne Hedrick officiating. The burial will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday at Woodhaven Memorial Garden. Holley- Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton in charge of all arrangements. GOOD, REV. JOE B. - 83, of Huntsville, passed into glory on Thursday. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Robena, his son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Terri Good, his three grandsons, Brad, Chris and Corey of Huntsville and his brother, Bob C. Good of McMinnville. There were many chapters in his life; in his teens he was a professional boxer and played baseball. He served honorably as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following the war he graduated from Mercer University and went on to earn a Doctorate of Divinity from Vanderbilt University and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Tennessee. He was ordained as a Southern Baptist Minister and served as the pastor of five churches in Tennessee; Green Hills Baptist Church, Nashville; First Baptist Church, Centerville; First Baptist Church, Mt Pleasant; Fairview Baptist Church, Oak Ridge; First Baptist Church Lonsdale, Knoxville. Following retirement he became an educator with the Knoxville School System serving as principal of Inskip Middle School. Prior to moving to Huntsville he was a resident of Powell, Tennessee and taught a senior men's class at First Baptist Church Powell. Since arriving in Huntsville, Rev. Good has been an active member of Willowbrook Baptist Church. He and his wife participated regularly in the Senior's Group known as the Keenagers. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Laughlin Chapel with Rev. Bob Smith officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Bethel Cemetery in Pelham, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association. PIERCE, GERALD - age 81 of Kingston, formally of Oak Ridge, passed away Friday June 25. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a World War II pilot. He earned his chemical engineering degree from West Virginia University and was a retired chemical engineer from Martin Marritta. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and long time volunteer for the Bird Show at the Knoxville Zoo. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents Dewitt and Gladys Pierce, and sister Delaine Patton. Survivors include his wife of 59 years Jaunita; his daughter Terry Cooper and her husband Gary; and his grandson Brent Cooper; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Marty and Penny Knell and John and Ruth Fletcher; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Family and friends will meet at Lynnhurst Cemetery in Knoxville on Monday, June 28 at 1:00 p.m. for a graveside service with Dr. Steve Sallee officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Knoxville Zoo, Gerald Pierce Memorial, P.O. Box 6040, Knoxville, TN 37914. RUSH, KEN - age 68 of Claxton passed away at his home June 24, 2004. Retired from The Knoxville News Sentinel with 40 years of service. Preceded in death by: father, Herb Rush, son, David Rush and granddaughter, Serena Rush. Survivors: wife, Leona Rush; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Lisa Rush; grandchildren, Ricky, Jason, Alisa, Veronica and Jewelian Rush and April Humphrey; 5 great grandchildren; mother, Martha Lay; several nieces and nephews; special friends, William Rogers, Shirley Curry and Sue Culbert. Service 8 pm Saturday, Mynatt Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Eddie Myers and Mark Chamblee officiating. Family and friends will meet 1:15 pm Sunday at Mynatt Funeral Home and proceed to Woodhaven Memorial Gardens for interment service at 2 pm. Pallbearers: Buddy Weaver, Dennis Cagle, Jason and Ricky Rush, Larry Humphrey and William Rogers. Family will receive friends 6 to 8 pm Saturday at Mynatt Funeral Home. STEPHENS, RUTH JODY - age 87, of Clinton, passed away Friday, June 25, 2004 at Windwood Health Care Center. She was a member of Clinton First Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husbands, John C. Jody & Thelmer Stephens; parents, Aldolphus L. & Alva Madwell Drewery; sister, Margie Day; granddaughter, Cynthia Jody. Survivors: daughter, Bettye & husband Robert Coker of Clinton; son, John Jody of Clinton; grandchildren, John W. & Elaine Coker of Brentwood, R. Michael Coker of Columbia, Glenna Mingledorff of Columbia, David & Marie Jody of Clinton, Melinda Jody of Knoxville; great grandchildren, Caleb Coker, Joshua Fogleman & Cynthia Dawn Jody; several nieces & nephews. The family will receive friends 1:30-2:30, Sunday, June 27, 2004 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home with funeral services following in the chapel with Rev. Sam Dean & Rev. Terry Baker officiating.
