From The Oak Ridger 16 Jun 2004 Johnny Andre Blue, 48, of Johnson City, Ernestine Shank Horton, 61, of Oak Ridge, formerly of Chattanooga, Maycel Phillips, 98, of Oliver Springs, Johnny Andre Blue, 48, of Johnson City, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at the Johnson City Medical Center. A Greenville native, he was the son of Jacqueline Bryant and the late Linley and Sarah Blue. Mr. Blue is survived by his wife, Kathleen Blue, of Oak Ridge; his daughter, Sarah Blue, of Oak Ridge; his son, John Blue, of Oak Ridge; four sisters, Teresa Richard and husband, Claude, of Norcross, Ga., Victoria Bryant of Morristown, and Faye Lollar and Lenoir Hamilton, both of Greenville; and by three brothers, Gary Blue and wife, Patsy, of Knoxville, Micheal Bryant of Morristown and Harold Bryant of New York, N.Y. He is also survived by two special nephews, Marcus Harvey of Georgia and Jonathan Brown of Tennessee; three nieces, Sarah Brown, Gabrielle Kyle and Alyah Blue, all of Tennessee; two special aunts, Lottie Arnett of Tennessee and Teresa Kimber of Nevada; and by four special cousins, Sharon Lovell and Pam Coney, both of Tennessee, Bobbie Woodward of Florida and Ruby Peters. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday, June 18, 2004, at Tate Chapel in Greenville with the Rev. C.C. Mills Jr. officiating. Ernestine Shank Horton, 61, of Oak Ridge, formerly of Chattanooga, died Monday, June 14, 2004, at her home. Born Feb. 4, 1943, she was the only daughter of John H. Shank, now deceased, and Inez Shank of Chattanooga. She was a graduate of Howard High School, where she was an honor student. She graduated from Tuskegee Institute of Alabama in 1965, where she was on the dean's list and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She went on to receive her master's degree from the University of Tennessee in 1989. She began her 39 years of teaching at Scarboro Elementary School in 1973. She also spent a year teaching in Germany and then returned to Oak Ridge to teach at Jefferson Junior High School. Her grandparents also died earlier. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her son, Brian Horton, of Knoxville; 11 cousins; a very special friend, Clarence Hinton; and by three dear friends, Delorise Barnes, Felicia Story and Theresa Venable. She is also survived by several other dear friends and an extended family at Jefferson Junior High School and the Oak Ridge city schools. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 17, 2004, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Craig Kallio officiating. Born Aug. 23, 1905, in Anderson County, she was the daughter of Calvin and Elizabeth Duncan Patterson. Her family said she was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Phillips, and by four sons, Arvin Phillips, Roy Phillips, Arnold Phillips and Calvin Phillips. Mrs. Phillips is survived by three sons, Lee Phillips and wife, Laketa, of Long Island, N.Y., Junior Phillips and wife, Lena, of Columbia and Oscar Phillips of Flint, Mich.; two daughters, Lavada Evans of Harriman and Edith Cruise of Fort Myers, Fla.; 25 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and by two daughters-in-law, Judy Phillips of Michigan and Mary Phillips of Oliver Springs. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 17, 2004, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Garvan Walls and the Rev. Keith Price officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 18, at Oliver Springs Cemetery.
