(GENE) - age 81 of LaFollette AULTON, CECIL RAY - age 49, of Clinton, BAYLESS, WILLIAM JEFFERSON of Oak Ridge, MOON, RALPH MARKS, JR. - 74, of Oak Ridge, ALRED, MR. ELMER E. (GENE) - age 81 of LaFollette passed away early Thursday, June 3, 2004, at his home. He was a member and former Deacon of the West LaFollette Baptist Church, very active in church work, and in the World Changers and community services, and a member of the Baptist Men's Brotherhood. He was a Marine Veteran of WWII and was retired from Chrysler Corp. Preceded in death by his dear wife, Carrie Alred on November 3, 2000. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Harding Tolliver Alred, and Nellie Myrtle Thornton Alred, and by brother, Ray Alred. Survivors: daughters, Teresa A. Davis and husband, Shelby of LaFollette, Eugenia Kay Manzella and husband, Sam of Center Line, MI.; four grandchildren, Andrea, Lisa, Nancy and Sam A.; nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Genette Ellis of Dayton, OH and Lois Hayes of Soddy Daisy, TN; three brothers, Kyle Alred of Zimmerman, MN, Virgil Alred of Massena, NY, and John L. Alred of LaFollette; two aunts, Martha Thornton of Jellico and Susie Griffith of LaFollette; several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Funeral services Sunday 2 P.M. at Walters Chapel with Dr. Timothy L. Parrish of Warren, MI and family and loved ones officiating. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery with military honors by Campbell County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Saturday at Walters Funeral Home. He was an estimator for Joseph Construction Company for approximately 28 years. Preceded in death by: parents, Cecil H. & N. Marie Wilkerson Aulton; brother, Ernest Aulton. Survivors: brother, John Aulton of Andersonville; sister, Donna & husband Gary Manley of Clinton; nieces, Heather & Elizabeth Manley. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Holley-Gamble Funeral home with funeral services following in the Chapel. The interment will be 10:30 am at Woodhaven Memorial Garden. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton in charge of all arrangements. BAYLESS, WILLIAM JEFFERSON of Oak Ridge, died June 2, 2004 at Baptist West Hospital in Knoxville. The son of Thomas Wyatt and Jessie Augusta Tillery Bayless, he was born May 21, 1915 in Inskip, TN. He was a member of the first football team of Powell High School, where he graduated. He received a scholarship to play football at the University of Tennessee, but declined, opting to marry instead. He remained an avid Vols fan throughout his life. A member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, he retired from Southern Railway. Later in life, he worked as an engineer for U.S. Sugar in Clewiston, FL. He was a member of The Church at Sterchi Hill. Preceded in death by: his parents; four brothers, Edward, J. C. (Cart), Reece, and Ralph; and his daughter from his first marriage, Barbara Pruitt. He is survived by: his third wife, Lucille Coleman Bayless of NHC Nursing Home in Oak Ridge; two daughters from his second marriage, Linda Bayless of Kingston and Kay Anne Turner of Oak Ridge; two sisters, Helen McElroy of Powell and Louise Boyd of Chattanooga; brother, LeRoy Bayless of Houston, TX; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Pruitt of Knoxville, Suzanne Pruitt Ryan of Daytona Beach, FL, Ian Edwards of Charlotte, NC, Luke Edwards, Elise Edwards, Haylee and Emily Turner of Oak Ridge; one great-granddaughter, Rylee Edwards;and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at Woodhaven Cemetery, Edgemoor Road in Claxton, for a 10:00 a.m. graveside service and interment. Rev. Noel Turner, his son-in-law, will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Stevens Mortuary, on the corner of Oglewood Ave. and N. Broadway. Mr. Bayless' guest book is also available at www.stevensmortuaryinc.com. MOON, RALPH MARKS, JR. - 74, of Oak Ridge, died June 1, 2004 at his home. He was born in Bombay, India, on October 11, 1929, to Ralph Marks Moon and Lorene Jeffery Moon of Houghton, Michigan. The family returned to the United States in 1931, settling in Kansas City, Mo. He was a graduate of the University of Kansas, with B.A. and M.A. degrees in Physics. He was named to Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma XI, and was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. In 1950 he married Barbara Katherine Longfellow. He worked for two years at the Naval Ordinance Testing Station, China Lake, California and then served three years in the Navy as a Guided Missile Officer. In 1963 he earned a PhD degree in Physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology where his thesis advisor was Nobel Prize winner Dr. Clifford Shull. He came to Oak Ridge in 1963 where he worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory until his retirement in 1994. At ORNL he served as Head of the Neutron Scattering Section, and Associate Director and Acting Director of the Solid State Division. The author of over 100 scientific papers, he was elected a Martin Marietta Corporate Fellow, a Fellow of the American Physical Society and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He was a member of the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church. In addition to his wife of 53 years, he is survived by three daughters, Kathy Kelly and her husband, Gary, of Oak Ridge, Laura Gardner and her husband, Grant, of Puyallup, Washington, and Mary Ann Moon of Knoxville; and by his son David Longfellow Moon and his wife, Naomi, of Broomfield, Colorado. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Patrick Kelly and his wife, Heather, of Columbia, S.C., John Kelly, Daniel Gardner, Philip Gardner, Emma Moon and Allison Moon; a brother, John J. Moon and his wife, Lois, of Bartlesville, Okla.; and by a sister, Mary Alice Moon of Indianapolis, Indiana. A memorial service will be held June 22, 2004 at 4:30 p.m. at the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Oak Ridge Public Schools Education Foundation, 1201 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830, or to the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Memorial Garden.
