From The Oak Ridger 11 Jun 2004 Donald Byrd Chambers, 67, of Clinton, Alma Lucille "Lucy" Ellis, 37, of Oak Ridge, Oma Jones, 90, of Clinton, Helen Field Kaine, 90, formerly of East Williston, Long Island, N.Y. Loujean Murray, 83, of Clinton, Iva Tipton Phelps, 94, of Maryville, Frank Brooks, 73, of the Batley community, Anderson County, Shirley Ann Justice, 60, of Oliver Springs, Donald Byrd Chambers, 67, of Clinton, died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge from injuries resulting from an Automobile accident. Born June 12, 1936, in Big Stone Gap, Va., he was the son of Galen D. Chambers and Margaret Louise Bailey Chambers. He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1958. Mr. Chambers retired from E.T. Bonding Corp., where he was a bail bondsman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Justin Chambers. Mr. Chambers is survived by his son, Charles Chambers and wife, AnnMarie, of Norris; two daughters, Teresa C. Miller of Orlando, Fla., and Sabrina Priske of Cocoa, Fla.; two sisters, Brenda Gail Daugherty and husband, Donnie, of Dunlap and Diana Sue Cox and husband, Richard, of Garland, Texas; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and by his ex-wife, Nancy O'Hearn, of Orlando. A graveside will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2004, at Campbell Memorial Cemetery in LaFollette. The requests any memorials be in the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, 871 N. Weisgarber Road, Knoxville, TN 37909. Walters Funeral Home in LaFollette is in charge of arrangements. Alma Lucille "Lucy" Ellis, 37, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, June 7, 2004. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Polland. Mrs. Ellis is survived by her husband, Don Ellis; three sons, Gene Smith, Charles Smith and Eric Landon Smith; two daughters, Shanda Smith and Jessica Autumn Anne Ellis; four grandchildren; and by her mother, Rita Wier Moulas, all of Oak Ridge. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2004, at Cross Funeral Home in LaFollette with the Rev. Wiseman officiating. Burial will be at noon Saturday, June 12, at Jacksboro Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Oma Jones, 90, of Clinton, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Dec. 26, 1913, she was the daughter of Richard and China Burress. Mrs. Jones moved to the Dutch Valley community 69 years ago and belonged to Dutch Valley Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, working outside, but most of all taking care of her family, her family said. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Jones, and by her son, Warren A. Jones. Mrs. Jones is survived by two sons, Cleo Jones and wife, Kay, of North Manchester, Ind., and Floyd Jones and wife, Regina, of Dunkirk, Ind.; four daughters, Maxine Gray of Athens, Christine Jett of Bryant, Ind., and Nadine Andrews and husband, James, and Jewel Dean Abbott, both of Clinton; one sister, Marie McGee, of Caryville; and by 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday June 12, 2004, at Dutch Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Northrup officiating. Burial will follow at the Jones Cemetery. Mrs. Kaine was of the Catholic faith. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and partner in life, Maj. Gen. John W. Kaine, and a great-grandson, Matthew E. Kaine. General Kaine was the former commanding general of the 77th Infantry Division and the 77th ARCOM, headquartered in New York. Mrs. Kaine is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and John Lucas of Farragut; a son and daughter-in-law, Wally and Marta Kaine of Leesburg, Va.; eight grandchildren, J. Christian Lucas, Helen Elizabeth Lucas-Averett, 2nd Lt. David M. Lucas, Kerri C. Lucas, Maj. Jay W. Kaine, Christopher C. Kaine, Timothy E. Kaine, 2nd Lt. Patrick H. Kaine; and by two great-grandchildren, W. Braden Averett and Lindsay A. Kaine. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at Arlington National Cemetery. Loujean Murray, 83, of Clinton, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Sept. 16, 1920, in Anderson County, she was the daughter of James and Cassie Wise. She was a member of Moran Baptist Church, where she served as treasurer for over 40 years. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Marlow Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles R. Hensley and Woodrow Murray. Mrs. Murray is survived by three sisters, Margaret Beeler and Ruth Taylor, both of Clinton, and Shirley McClain of Polk City, Fla.; two nieces, Susan Dew of Clinton and Deidrie Ritts of Knoxville; five nephews, Charles Foster and Rick Walker of Clinton, Ronald Foster of Sparta, Larry Walker of Knoxville and James Taylor of Marietta, Ga.; five stepsons, Jerry Murray, Clayton Murray, Ted Murray, Clyde Bumgardner and John Bumgardner, all of Clinton; her half brother, James Wise, of Knoxville; and by her half sister, Jamasia Wise, of Knoxville. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2004, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Kenneth Seeber and the Rev. Kenny Sharp officiating. Iva Tipton Phelps, 94, of Maryville, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Colonial Hills Nursing Home. Born Oct. 8., 1909, she was the daughter of John Martin and Martha Josephine Lawson Tipton. She was a descendent of the Tipton, Lawson and Myers families of Cades Cove and was a member of Middlesettlements United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Phelps; and four sisters and brothers, Carrie Miller, Clemmie Gibson, Claude Tipton and Clyde Tipton. Mrs. Phelps is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jo and John Hitch of Louisville; four grandchildren, Mike Hitch and his wife, Lesa, and Jay Hitch, all of Louisville, April Wheeler of Knoxville and Brandi Costner of Loudon; a sister-in-law, Georgie Colvin of Florida; and by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2004, in the chapel of McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in Maryville, with the Rev. Joe Black officiating. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
