From The Oak Ridger 14 Jun 2004 Frank Brooks Jr., 73, of the Batley community of Anderson County, Daisy Mae Foust, 87, of Clinton, Sherman Walker Grimsley, 60, of Oak Ridge, Charlie "Tot" Hardwick Moore, Robert Bruce Neal, 80 of Oak Ridge, Charles Franklin "Frank" Shelby, 77, of Claxton, Donovan Allen Shelton, 4 months, Rommie Vann Sr., 91, of the Beechfork community in Morgan County, Frank Brooks Jr., 73, of the Batley community of Anderson County, died Friday, June 11, 2004, at his home. Born June 19, 1930, in Oliver Springs, he was the son of Frank Brooks Sr. and Texas Wilson Brooks. He had lived in this area all of his life. He was a faithful member of Batley Baptist Church. Mr. Brooks worked with several contractors for the K-33 and K-25 buildings in Oak Ridge before being employed with MSI for 18 years in both Oak Ridge and Huntsville, Ala., with the NASA Space Program. He retired from the city of Oak Ridge after 20 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jessie Brooks and Conda Brooks, and by four sisters, Odessa Hudson, Anna Mae Andrews, Beulah Shultz and Bertha Brooks. Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lena Ruth Hatfield Brooks; two daughters, Martha Brooks Smith and husband, Rick, of Batley and Diane Brooks Crutchfield and husband, Terry, of Knoxville; two grandchildren, Tasha Todd and husband, Lee, of Easley, S.C., and Tabitha Lantz and husband, Daniel, of Batley; two brothers, Ted Brooks and wife, Beulah, and Chester Brooks and wife, Mary, all of Oliver Springs; his brother-in-law, Warren Andrews, of Rutherfordton, N.C.; a special brother-in-law, who was considered as a son, Maurice Hatfield, of Henderson, Nev.; and by many special friends and neighbors. The funeral was Saturday, June 12, 2004, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Luke Kidwell and the Rev. Matt Reed officiating. A graveside service was Sunday, June 13, at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Clinton. Daisy Mae Foust, 87, of Clinton, died Friday, June 11, 2004, at Life Care Health Center of Morgan County. Born March 22, 1917, in Norfolk, Va., she was the daughter of Apse and Beulah Bittle Wilkerson. Mrs. Foust was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charley E. Foust; a son, Kyle E. Foust; three brothers, Bob Wilkerson, Harley Wilkerson and Lee Wilkerson; and by two sisters, Dorothy York and Marie Aulton. Mrs. Foust is survived by two sons, Charlie "David" Foust and wife, Patricia, of Fredricksburg, Va., and Larry Foust and wife, Joyce, of Deerlodge; four grandchildren, Chris Foust, Denise Palmer, Amy Weldon and Matthew Foust; and by a sister, Margorie Foust and husband, Harvey, of Knoxville. The funeral was Sunday, June 13, 2004, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Kenneth Seeber and the Rev. Moss Beets officiating. Burial was to be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 14, at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton. Sherman Walker Grimsley, 60, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, June 11, 2004, at Roane Medical Center in Harriman. Mr. Grimsley was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his father, Sherman W. Grimsley, and by his son, Sherman W. Grimsley III. Mr. Grimsley is survived by his mother, Edna Grimsley, of Rockwood; his sister, Kathleen Keith, of Marshall, Texas; and by his nephew, Sean Michael Carlisle, of Jackson, Miss. At the request of the family, the body has been cremated. Evans Mortuary in Rockwood is in charge of arrangements. Charlie "Tot" Hardwick Moore, died Friday, June 11, 2004, in Oak Ridge. Born in Cleveland, she moved to Oak Ridge in 1951, where she resided until her death. Mrs. Moore was an avid golfer in her early years, enjoyed following the pro tour and was interested in many sports, her family said. A florist for 20 years, she was co-owner of Tot and Tollie's Flower Shop in Oak Ridge. Her family said she was a life master at bridge, an excellent cook and she loved to entertain, especially for family functions. She was a founding member of Kern United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cicero McCutchen Hardwick Sr. and Charlie Taliaferro Hardwick, and by her husband, Clyde "Dorie" Moore, originally from Cleveland. Mrs. Moore is survived by her daughter, Tollie DeGraw and husband, Michael, of Oak Ridge; her son, Cutch Moore and wife, Cathy, of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Andy Degraw and wife, Reisha, of Oak Ridge, Jennifer Luttrell and husband, John, of Fort Worth, Texas, Julie Shefchunas and husband, Tom, and Lauren Moore, all of Atlanta; three great-grandchildren, Parker DeGraw and Sydney DeGraw, both of Oak Ridge and Mac Shefchunas of Atlanta; her brother, Mac Hardwick and wife, Pellen, of Cleveland; her sister, Danie Randolph, of Dalton, Ga.; her sister-in-law, Margaret Trimm, of Chattanooga; and by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2004, in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home in Cleveland with the Rev. Andy Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Hill Cemetery in Cleveland. Andy DeGraw, Scott Randolph, Steve Randolph, David Randolph, Joe Randolph and Lou Randolph will serve as pallbearers. The family requests any memorials be in the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, Hamilton County Unit, 850 Fortwood St., Chattanooga, TN 37403. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 14, at the funeral home. Robert Bruce Neal, 80 of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, due to complications following lung surgery. Born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, he went to Lexington, Ky., to live as a child. He received his early education in the Lexington school system. After enrolling at the University of Kentucky, Mr. Neal was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was in the ASTP training program in Vermillion, S.D. During the Battle of the Bulge, he was assigned as a replacement to the "Timberwolf" section of the 104th Infantry Division. After World War II, he completed his degree and graduate work at the University of Kentucky. It goes without saying, he was a faithful and loyal fan of the "Big Blue" basketball team and was an avid fan of the University of Tennessee football team, his family said. Mr. Neal retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems after 41 years of service. He was a metallurgical engineer in the Barrier Development Division. His family said he was an avid reader and loved classical music. He was a reader for the Recording For The Blind and Dyslexic Inc., having read over 1,000 hours. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Choir for over 50 years and was a deacon, chairman of music committees and held various other positions. He was a member of the Community Choir for a number of years. According to his family, Mr. Neal was the last survivor of the James and Laura Baker Neal family. He had three older brothers, James B. Neal, William W. Neal and Jack S. Neal and a sister, Frances. Mr. Neal is survived by, his wife of 50 years, Frances Smellage Neal; two sons, Bruce and wife, Nina Kondratick Neal, of Winter Springs, Fla., and Doug and wife, Keena Holland Neal, of Jamestown, N.C.; three grandchildren, David Neal, Blake Neal and Ali Neal. His family said he was so proud of his sons and their accomplishments and he was affectionately nicknamed "Cracker" by his grandson, Blake. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Dipboye and the Rev. Ray Lloyd officiating. A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family requests any memorials be made in the form of contributions to the Recording For The Blind and Dyslexic Inc., 205 Badger Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830; the American Lung Association, 212 S. Peters Road, Suite 106, Knoxville, TN 37923; or to a charity of the donor's choice. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Charles Franklin "Frank" Shelby, 77, of Claxton, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. According to his family, Mr. Shelby's life was different after the passing of his beloved wife, Louise. They spent 36 years together. Mr. Shelby served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. His family said he is one more of the World War II veterans leaving us. He was a retired bricklayer and belonged to the Bricklayers Union No. 5. He was content with the simple things in life and believed in values of honesty, hard work and letting your word be your bond, his family said. When he was able, his family said he loved working in his garden and flowers. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Ollie Shelby, and by his sister, Dorothy Prater. Mr. Shelby is survived by his brother, Lawrence Shelby and wife, Pat, of Knoxville. According to his family, some of the people that will miss him are Jason, Karrie and Colby Moody, Ralph and Gail Myers, Larry and Karen Myers Sr., Larry Myers Jr., Kenneth Prater, Robert Prater, Jerry Moody and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton with full military rites. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. Donovan Allen Shelton, 4 months, died Saturday, June 12, 2004, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Leata Farrow. He is survived by his parents, Tina Farrow and Daniel Shelton, of New Market; his grandparents, Danny and Beth Shelton of New Market and Lennis and Earlene Farrow of Rutledge; his great-grandparents, Glenn and Nancy Grant of Oak Ridge and Dennis and Nadine Farrow of Rutledge; and by his great-great-grandmother, Ada McBryar, of Oak Ridge. He is also survived by two aunts, Jennifer Cochran and Celena Farrow; his cousins, Cody Cochran, Tessa Cochran, Lashea Cochran, Whitney Farrow, Travis Farrow, Tylor Farrow and Taylor Farrow; and by many other great uncles and aunts and friends of the family. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors of UT Medical Center in the NICU and PICU units. The funeral was to be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2004 at Central Point Baptist Church in Rutledge with the Rev. Dale Mitchell and the Rev. Horace Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Central Point Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the church. Smith Funeral Home in Rutledge is in charge of arrangements. Rommie Vann Sr., 91, of the Beechfork community in Morgan County, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Roane Medical Center in Harriman.
