Thomas M. Smith was an ordained minister who donated the land upon which the First Baptist Church of Jellico was built. At the time, Jellico was still called Smithburg, I believe. According to historical accounts, most of the founding members of this church came from the Good Hope Church at Oswego, which I believe was about 5 miles south of Smithburg at the time. The written history of the First Baptist Church of Jellico has more information about Thomas and the founding members. Others may be able to verify this, but I believe he ran a general store in Smithburg/Jellico.
