Beck, 56, of Oak Ridge, Edward Dale Legg, 60, of Andersonville, Ralph Marks Moon Jr., 74, of Oak Ridge, William Whitmell Hill Pugh Jr., 90, of Oak Ridge, William Jefferson Bayless, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Baptist Hospital West in Knoxville. The son of Thomas Wyatt and Jessie Augusta Tillery Bayless, he was born May 21, 1915, in Inskip. Mr. Bayless was a member of the first football team of Powell High School, where he graduated. According to his family, he received a scholarship to play football at the University of Tennessee, but declined, opting to marry instead. His family said he remained an avid Vols fan throughout his life. A member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, he retired from Southern Railway. Later in life, he worked as an engineer for U.S. Sugar in Clewiston, Fla. He was a member of The Church at Sterchi Hill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Edward, J. C. "Cart," Reece and Ralph, and by his daughter from his first marriage, Barbara Pruitt. Mr. Bayless is survived by his third wife, Lucille Coleman Bayless, of NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge; two daughters from his second marriage, Linda Bayless of Kingston and Kay Anne Turner of Oak Ridge; two sisters, Helen McElroy of Powell and Louise Boyd of Chattanooga; a brother, LeRoy Bayless of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Pruitt of Knoxville, Suzanne Pruitt Ryan of Daytona Beach, Fla., Ian Edwards of Charlotte, N.C., and Luke Edwards, Elise Edwards, Haylee Turner and Emily Turner, all of Oak Ridge; one great-granddaughter, Rylee Edwards; and by several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2004, at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens on Edgemoor Road in Claxton for a 10 a.m. graveside service with the Rev. He was preceded in death by his father, Hiram Beck, and by a brother, Leonard Beck. Mr. Beck is survived by three daughters, Tammie Taylor of Chattanooga and Alyssa Beck and Alexis Beck, both of Coalfield; two sons, Daniel Beck and Anthony Beck, both of Oak Ridge; three grandchildren, Alexis Van-Minxel, Blake Beck and Ashley Taylor; his mother, Beatrice Brown, of Oak Ridge; and by his sister, Pat Wantland and husband, Tom, of Clinton. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2004, at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens with Tom Wantland and the Rev. Don Hensley officiating. Edward Dale Legg, 60, of Andersonville, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. Legg was a retired master sergeant, having served in the Army, Air Force and Navy. He later worked and retired from the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant. He attended First Baptist Church in Powell. Mr. Legg was a volunteer track coach at Anderson County High School for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Edward and Ruth Seaver Legg. Mr. Legg is survived by his wife, Janice Rhyne Legg; his son, Scott Legg and wife, Annette, of Chattanooga; his daughter, Valerie Hull and husband, Darrell, of Andersonville; and by five grandchildren, Madison Hull, Grant Hull, Wyatt Hull, Ethan Legg and Brookelyn Legg. He is also survived by two brothers, Roy "Doug" Legg and wife, Carolyn, of Clinton and Don Legg and wife, Dee, of Henager, Ala.; and by two sisters, Louise Cunningham and husband, Bill, of Bristol, Va., and Margaret Winebarger and husband, Robert, of North Carolina. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 6, 2004, at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton. An online guest book may be signed at www.martinoakridgefuneralhome.com William Whitmell Hill Pugh Jr., 90, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, after a short illness. Born March 25, 1914, in Napoleonville, La., Dr. Pugh was the oldest son of William W. and Evelyn Foley Pugh. He was a graduate of Louisiana State University and received his medical degree from Tulane University in 1938. He served on active duty in the U.S. Army from 1941 through 1945, including 17 months overseas in the European theater as battalion surgeon with the 83rd Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. Dr. Pugh arrived in Oak Ridge in the spring of 1945, where he practiced obstetrics and gynecology for many years, first as a member of the U.S. Army and subsequently in private practice. He served two years as chief of staff at the Oak Ridge hospital in the 1960s. He was a member of several local civic organizations and until recently served as a member of the Oak Ridge Beer Board. He was married to Mary Frances Butler Pugh for 52 years until her death in 1997. Dr. Pugh is survived by a brother, George W. Pugh of Baton Rouge, La.; two daughters, Virginia Pugh Wiggen and husband, Thomas, of Grand Forks, N.D., and Evelyn Pugh Thompson and husband, Richard, of New Orleans, La.; and by four grandchildren, Peter Wiggen, Virginia Wiggen, William Thompson and Andrew Thompson. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2004, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends following the service.
