From The Knoxville News Sentinel 19 Aug 2004 FOWLER, ARVIL - age 76 of Harriman, SMITH, SHAIRON KAY - age 47, of Heiskell, FOWLER, ARVIL - age 76 of Harriman, passed away Wednesday August 18, 2004 at Parkwest Hospital in Knoxville. He was retired from Norfolk Southern Railway following 40 years of service in the Alabama, Kentucky and Tennessee/Divisions. He served as Train Master in Harriman from 1967 until 1987. Fowler signed a football scholarship with Auburn University in 1946 & later signed with the Chicago Cubs & the St. Louis Cardinals to play professional baseball. A Veteran of the Korean War, he served the U.S. Navy & the U.S. Army. He was a Life Deacon at Trenton Street Baptist Church. Survivors: wife of 52 years, Mary Ann Fowler of Harriman; daughter & son- in-law, Ann & Sam Scandlyn of Marietta, Ga.; son, James A. Fowler of Nashville; 2 grandchildren, Sarah Scandlyn & James F. Scandlyn of Marietta; Funeral 2:00 pm Friday at Kyker Funeral Home Chapel in Harriman where the body will lie-in-state for two hours before services. Rev. Waylon Payne officiating. Private Interment. The family will receive friends for one hour following the service at Kyker Funeral Home, Harriman. Preceded in death: by father, Ronald Daniel; grandparents, Pete and Anna Mae Dukes, Parlie Daniel, and Goldie Tharp. Survivors: husband, Larry Smith of Heiskell; daughter, Sherri Smith of Heiskell; step son, Nathan Smith of Heiskell; mother, Mary Daniel of Maynardville; sisters, Teresa Dyer and husband Kent of Maynardville, Karen Cox and husband Tim of Maynardville; brother, Ronnie Daniel and wife Melissa of Maryville; many loved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday, August 19, 2004 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the funeral following at 8:00 pm with the Rev.
