From The Oak Ridger 18 Aug 2004 Jeraldine Watson Charles Betty Lou Mounce Phillips, 66, of Clinton, Mary Elizabeth Tittsworth, 90, of Oak Ridge, Nelda Marie Booth Bain, 73, of Oak Ridge, Jeraldine Watson Charles died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge surrounded by her family. born July 27, 1914, in Dayton Ohio, she was the daughter of William James and Daisy Taylor Watson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, George W. Charles, who died in 1994 and her sister, Sarah Emery. Her mother died when she was very young and she was raised by her aunt and uncle in Pleasant City, Ohio. Later, she lived with her father and graduated from high school in Rome, Ga., in 1932. She attended Agnes Scott College and received a bachelor's degree from Muskingum College in 1936 and a master's in math from the Ohio State University in 1938. She married George W. Charles in 1939. They lived in Raleigh, N.C. where their daughter, Daisy, was born. They also lived in Washington D.C., Norman, Okla., and Dayton, Ohio, where their son, George, was born. In 1954, they moved to Oak Ridge. She was active in the First United Methodist Church and a variety of civic organizations. She was president and treasurer of the United Methodist Women and served as treasurer of the Oak Ridge District. She was also treasurer of the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Women and served eight years on the Holston Conference Pension Board and eight years on the Equitable Salaries commission. As a member of the Women's Club, she was active in arts and crafts, the Book Group and the morning and afternoon bridge groups. She served as the treasurer, publicity and chairwoman of the Morning Bridge Group. She was also a member of the Oak Ridge Stamp Club and the Greater Knoxville Cactus and Succulent Society. She traveled all over the world including Russia, China, Israel, South Africa, many European countries as well as Alaska and Hawaii. She loved reading, stamp collecting, arts and crafts, and bridge. In her younger years, she enjoyed going dancing with her husband, George. She is survived by her daughter, Daisy Henry, and her son, George W. Charles II, and his wife, Rebecca, all of Oak Ridge; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Mary Katherine Wood, and her husband, Ken, and sons, Mason and Jonathan, of Nashville, Martha McCumpsey and her husband, Allen, and daughters, Heather and Brooke, of Houston, Texas, Joe Henry, of Dallas, Texas, Isaac Charles and his wife, Andrea, and son, Nathaniel, of Knoxville, Dyanna Charles, of Chicago, Ill., and Ezekiel Taylor Charles, of Oak Ridge. The funeral will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Bill Mooney officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens. Betty Lou Mounce Phillips, 66, of Clinton, died Monday, August 16, 2004, at her residence. Born Feb. 21, 1938, in Anderson County, she was the daughter of George W. and Dora Jones Mounce. She loved quilting, sewing, canning, fishing, attending church and spending time with her family. She had six children who loved her dearly, her family said. She will be missed dearly and loved forever, according to the family. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Allen and Frank Mounce. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, James R. Phillips; five sons, Wayde and Carolyn Phillips, of Knoxville, Joe Phillips, Gary and Jenny Phillips, Darrell and Martha Phillips, all of Clinton, and David and Regina Phillips, of Lake City; a daughter, Theresa and Richard Jeffers, of Lake City; three sisters, Cora Sutton, of Wartburg, Dorothy Murray and Anna Mae Dodson, both of Lake City. She is also survived by grandchildren, Angie Phillips, Amy Phillips, Gregory Paul Phillips, Christina Lowe, Joshua Phillips, Aleshia Phillips, Ricky Jeffers, Melodie Jeffers, Chrisstopher Sherwood and Virginia Phillip; great-grandchildren, Hunter James Phillips, Abigail Phillips, Austin Phillips, Gregory Paul Phillips, Sarah Lowe and Garren Phillips, several nieces, nephews and many family, friends and loved ones. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, in the chapel of Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Jimmy Lindsey officiating. Burial will be at noon Thursday, Aug. 19 at the Beech Grove Cemetery in Lake City. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mary Elizabeth Tittsworth, 90, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She was a longtime resident of Oak Ridge and a long-standing member of Highland View Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norville Leon Tittsworth, two sisters, Florence Green and Vernia Keith. She is survived by one son, Norville Edwin Tittsworth, of Oak Ridge, two daughters, Trevia Parks and husband, Beryl, of Lexington, S.C., and Evelyn Richert and husband, Frank, of Rockledge, Fla., and a sister, Lois Watson, of Smithville. Eight grandchildren, including Robert Tittsworth and wife, Anna Belle, of Knoxville, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, also survive her. She also considered Betty Hubbard, of Oak Ridge, a very special friend, according to her family. The funeral will be at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 21 in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home. Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
