    2. From The Oak Ridger 30 Aug 2004 Fred Burnette, 72, of Coalfield, Edna F. Byrd, 90, formerly of Oak Ridge, Lizzie Mae Russell, 92, of Coalfield, Betty Mae Stitts Howard, 81, Helen Deloris Hatcher, 77, Fred Burnette, 72, of Coalfield, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004. Born July 8, 1932, in Columbus, Ohio, he moved to Tennessee while still a baby and became a lifelong resident of Coalfield. He was a member of Meadow View Baptist Church. Mr. Burnette was a disabled veteran who served with the U.S. Army in 82nd Airborne Rangers. He enjoyed fishing and dirt-track racing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Willie Mae Rutherford Carson, and a son, Terry Wayne Burnette. Mr. Burnette is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nina Blankenship Burnette; five children, Judy Pratt and husband, Horace, of Clinton, Bobby Burnette and wife, Vicki, Greg Burnette and fianceé, Liz, Sherie McKamey and husband, Junior, all of Coalfield and Susie Rhodey and husband, Randy, of Norris; nine grandchildren, Mike Pratt of Oliver Springs, Michelle Davis and husband, Lee, Randall and Nikki Rhodey, all of Norris, Shine Burnette and fiancé, Brian Roberts of Clinton, Bobby Burnette Jr. and wife, Charlotte, Dalene Brown and husband, Brian, all of Oak Ridge, Terry Williams of Rochester, N.Y., and Harley Burnette and Brandon McKamey, both of Coalfield; 15 great-grandchildren, Jasmine Pratt, Ryan, Tiffany and Keith Roberts, Haley Rhodey, all of Clinton, Sean Phillips and Matthew Davis, both of Norris, Derick Hamby of Wartburg, Olivia and Hannah Parker, Dusty, Jennifer, Jessica and Derick Jenkins, all of Oak Ridge, and Tia Williams of Knoxville. He is also survived by three brothers and two sisters, George Burnette, Roy Burnette and Danny Burnette, all of Oliver Springs, and Viola Rollins and Wanda Burnette, both of Oak Ridge. Junior McKamey was considered a very special son-in-law and Brandon "Bandit" McKamey was considered a very special grandson. Other survivors include three sisters-in-law, Brenda Gibson and husband, David, of Harriman, Fay Yearwood of Spring City and Carolyn Blankenship of Coalfield; two brothers-in-law, Jesse Blankenship of Oak Ridge and Dwight Blankenship of Knoxville; a special cousin, George Davis of Coalfield; and by many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members and friends. The funeral was held Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at Meadowview Baptist Church in Wartburg with Rev. Luke Ward officiating. Burial was at Oliver Springs Cemetery. Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs was in charge of arrangements. Edna F. Byrd, 90, formerly of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, of natural causes at Sunbridge Shoals Nursing Home in Tuscumbia, Ala. She was a native of Ranger, N.C. and daughter of the late Ulysses H. and Annie Fox. She lived in Oak Ridge for over 40 years and was a member of Central Baptist Church of Oak Ridge. She lived at Wellington Place Assisted Living in Muscle Shoals, Ala. for three years, was an inspiration to many people there and will be greatly missed, her family said. The family would like to express appreciation to Barbara Martindale, a great friend at Wellington Place and to Sunbridge Shoals for caring for her this past year. She is survived by sons, Hugh Gordon Byrd and wife, Linda, of Tuscumbia, Ala. and Michael Kim Byrd and wife, Beth, of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a sister, Lonas Shields, of Murphy, N.C. and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Bobby Mullins officiating. The graveside service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept.1, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. Betty Mae Stitts Howard, 81, of the Morning Point Assisted Living Facility in Clinton, formerly of Rockwood, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, in Clinton. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rockwood, active in the Victory Group at First Baptist and a member of the Gideon Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph William Howard. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy H. Sanderson, of Powell, and Debbie H. Honeycutt, of Deland, Fla.; three sons, David E. Howard and Stephen J. Howard, both of Johnson City, and John M. Howard, of Cross Plains; a brother Charles Stitts, of Greensburg, Ind.; a sister, Patricia A. Gibson, of Owenton, Ky.; grandchildren, Angela S. Burress, of Clinton, Amy S. Koerner, of Jackson, Allison S. Helms, of Rock Hill, S.C., Abbe S. Evans, of Louisville, Beth H. Glass, of Dunwoody, Ga., Stephanie G. Harper, of Daytona Beach, Fla., Jamie M. Howard, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Joseph B. Howard, of Cross Plains, Megan R. Howard, of Johnson City, and Stephen Blake Howard, of Johnson City. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Meredith R. and Evan W. Burress, of Clinton, Trey and Katelyn R. Helms, of Rock Hill, S.C., Riley C. and Jared D. Koerner, of Jackson. The funeral will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at the First Baptist Church of Rockwood with the Rev. Robert Stitts and the Rev. Steve Foster officiating. The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, in the Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church. Evans Mortuary in Rockwood is in charge of arrangements. Lizzie Mae Russell, 92, of Coalfield, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, in Dalton, Ga. Born Sept. 8, 1911, in the Wheat community, she was the daughter of Charles and Lottie Wilson Shelton. Mrs. Russell was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where she had worked as a postmaster for approximately 38 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Linis Howard Russell and first husband, Granville Wilson, a son, Jerry S. Wilson, and several brothers and a sister. Mrs. Russell is survived by her daughter, Penney Sisson and husband, Perry, of Cohutta, Ga.; her son, Mickey Wilson and wife, Helen, of Georgetown, Texas; her grandson, Preston S. Wilson and wife, Lila, of Austin, Texas; and her great-granddaughter, Lily Wilson of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, R. B. Russell of Oliver Springs; five sisters-in-law, Arvana Helton and husband, Bobby, and Elizabeth Baker and husband, Joe, all of Coalfield, Betsy McGhee and husband, Eugene, of Oliver Springs; and Lois Foster and Steva Lane Russell, both of Oak Ridge; and several extended family members and friends. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 31, at Estes Cemetery in Coalfield. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Helen Deloris Hatcher, 77, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
