MARION, MARGARET MCCLARY MASDEN "MEMA" - age 77, of Caryville SCARBROUGH, HELEN - age 80 of Clinton, BROWN, VIRGIL MCKINLEY - age 89, of 209 Jacksboro St., Lake City, Tennessee passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at the Methodist Medical Center, Oak Ridge. He was a longtime resident of Lake City who was known and loved by all for his very own special personality and his love of the outdoors and the great earth. He was a "one of a kind". He was born August 11, 1915 in Campbell County to the late Rev. William & Mary Brown. He was preceded in death by: wife of 55 years, Dora Josephine; parents; & several brothers & sisters. HAMBY, GLENDA - age 60 of Harriman, passed away Wednesday, August 18 in Ft Sanders Hospital following a short, but courageous battle with cancer. She was a graduate of Oakdale School, and was employed for 28 years at Y12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge. She was a faithful member of South Harriman Baptist Church, and was a loving mother and grandmother. She was an avid NASCAR fan, and was best known for her beautiful smile and her sense of humor. All those who knew and loved her will sadly miss her. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Gordon and Irene Reynolds; and sister, Frances Reynolds, all of Oakdale. Survivors: son & daughter-in-law. HAYNES, MAUDE BYRUM - age 93, of Clinton passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at Windwood Health Care Center. She was a member of Clinton Church of Christ. Preceded in death by: parents, William Martin and Nancy Foster Byrum; husband, William Austin Haynes; and one great grandchild, Pamela Elliott. JOHNSON, ELIZABETH KELLY 46, local attorney, died Wednesday, August 18, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center surrounded by family and friends. The daughter of Mattie Naomi (Toby) and William Cobb Kelly, Jr., she was born in Oak Ridge and graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1974. In 1979 she graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a degree in Business Administration. Mrs. Johnson received her J.D. degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1985 where she was awarded the Advocate's Prize for Outstanding Achievement and Proficiency in Appellate Argument, both Oral and Written. After graduation, she worked as a Senior Closing Attorney for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. She defended the FDIC in lawsuits arising out of bank failures in the eastern United States and received several Special Service Awards for her efforts. When the Knoxville office of the FDIC closed in 1991, she went to Lockheed Martin Energy Systems in Oak Ridge, working in Contracts and Export Control. She received the National Lockheed Martin Contract Policy Achievement Award in 1997 for developing the company's export compliance program. In 1998, she joined the law office of Vowell & Associates, working with her first cousin Donald K. Vowell. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Methodist Medical Center Advisory Board. She has held every office of the Second District Dental Society Alliance, including president. In 1994, she was recipient of the Beulah K. Spencer Award of the Alliance of the Tennessee Dental Association for outstanding leadership. Mrs. Johnson was elected Treasurer of the Alliance of the Tennessee Dental Association for this coming year. Mrs. Johnson was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge, where she has served as member of the Administrative Board, as chairman of the Family Life Council, and as counselor in the FUMC Youth program. She has been a puppeteer for "Kids on the Block", an educational program in the Anderson County and Oak Ridge City school systems. She was a Girl Scout Life Member, a member of Children's International Summer Villages in Knoxville and a volunteer for the Oak Ridge Children's Showchoir. Mrs. Johnson was a frequent volunteer in other charitable organizations such as the United Way. Mrs. Johnson is survived by: her husband of 19 years, Dr. James David Johnson, Jr.; son, Andrew Kelly Johnson; daughter, Katherine Hall Johnson; and daughter, Carolyn Petrey Johnson. She is survived by: mother, Mable Wiggins, and preceded in death by: father Polk Alvin Wiggins. Also survived by two sisters: Kathy Wiggins and Elaine Hendrix (and husband Jimmy); four brothers: Michael Wiggins, Scott Wiggins, Troy Wiggins, and Cleve Wiggins (and wife Helen); four children: Charles West, Anna Cannon (and husband Chris), Karen Bunch (and husband Joe), and Dolan Parsley (and wife Lori); six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was a member of Lake City United Methodist Church where she was organist/pianist for 20+ years. She also was a member of the choir. She formed and played in the rhythm band at the Lake City Nursing Home. She was a member of the Keen Club at Lake City. She taught school in the Campbell County School System for 34 years.
