From The Knoxville News Sentinel 27 Aug 2004 CLAIBORNE, RACHEL SILER - age 91, of LaFollette NELSON, MARY KATHERYN DAVIS (NANNIE) - age 77, of Kingston, OVERBAY, GEORGIA T. - age 87 of LaFollette, RATHBONE, NORMAN D. - age 79, of Oak Ridge TIBBS, WILLIAM LEON - age 79, of LaFollette, WORRILL, BETTY JO - age 75 of Lake City, TN CLAIBORNE, RACHEL SILER - age 91, of LaFollette (Fincastle Community), died Thursday, August 26, at St. Mary's Health & Rehab in LaFollette. She was a member of Fincastle United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by her parents, James and Alice Siler; husband, Frank Claiborne; brothers, Charlie, John, James and Walter Siler and sisters, Ethel Siler and Mary Craig. She is survived by son & daughter in law, Ralph & Juanita Claiborne; daughter, Fay Claiborne and friend, Robert Marlow; grandchildren, Richard Claiborne, Cheryl Liles & husband, David; sister & brother in law, Ruth & Clem Riggs, Cincinnati, Ohio; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends Friday, August 27, at Fincastle United Methodist Church, from 1-2 p.m. with the funeral service at 2 p.m., and graveside service to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Arrangements by Cross Funeral Home. NELSON, MARY KATHERYN DAVIS (NANNIE) - age 77, of Kingston, died Thursday morning August 26, 2004 at Oak Ridge Methodist Medical Center. She was a member of Morrison Hill Christian Church and a retired secretary from the maintenance division of K-25. A devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother to her surviving husband of 53 years, Darrell Nelson of Kingston; her daughters & sons-in-law, Elaine & Steve Patterson of Kingston, Darlene & Mike Kolodi of Kingston, and Patty & Chris Perry of Cincinnati, OH; her grandchildren, Kevin & Mark Patterson, Mitch & Katie Kolodi and Kent Perry; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service 4:00 P.M. Sunday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Dennis Mullens and Dr. Roy Graves officiating. Family and friends will meet at Tennessee Veterans' Cemetery Monday for an 11:30 A.M. interment service. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cross Funeral Home, LaFollette. RATHBONE, NORMAN D. - age 79, of Oak Ridge passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2004, at Methodist Medical Center. He was the father of four area women. Norman was born November 26, 1924, in Pine Grove, West Virginia. He attended West Virginia University before going to work at the Union Carbide Institute plant in Charleston, West Virginia. He transferred to K-25 in 1944 where he was made foreman, May 28, 1945. At the time of his retirement in 1984, Norman was shift superintendent at K-25. Norman was an avid fisherman, making his second home at Hickory Star Campground and Marina. He loved to play pool, snooker at the Oak Ridge Senior Center. In earlier years he bowled on the K-25 bowling team and played baseball on the Union Carbide team. He was preceded in death by: parents, Thomas J. & Beatrice Rathbone, who came to Oak Ridge in 1944 with Union Carbide from Pine Grove, West Virginia. Survivors: wife of 60 years, Madelyn Rathbone of Oak Ridge, also of Pine Grove, West Virginia, who was his high school sweetheart. They graduated from Pine Grove High School before coming to Oak Ridge where they were married in their present home August 19, 1944. They celebrated their 60th anniversary just last week with their family. daughters, Barbara Darnell & husband Andy of Clinton, Norma Ilar & husband Jim of Clinton, Nancy Butler & husband David of Claxton, Jamie Jamieson of Nashville; grandchildren, Jessica McGhee & husband Dustin of Powell, Joy McGhee & husband Jason, Jennifer Lloyd & husband Michael, Whitni Duncan & husband Tommy all of Clinton, Jim Ilar & wife Kristi of Oak Ridge; great grandchildren, Molli, Emmalee, Lenzi, & Sarah Ilar of Oak Ridge, Joshua Lloyd of Clinton, Brandon McGhee of Powell. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm, Friday, August 27, 2004, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home with funeral services following in the Chapel with Rev. Mack Smith & Rev. Bill Mooney officiating. The burial will be 2:00 pm, Saturday at Grandview Memorial Garden in Clinton. Pallbearers are: James Sears, WT Northcutt, Joe Dykstra, Wayne Ball, Bob Payne & Steve Price. TIBBS, WILLIAM LEON - age 79, of LaFollette, born October 28, 1924, died Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospice in Halls. He was a member of LaFollette Church of God, a WWII veteran and retired from TVA after 35 years of service. Preceded in death by mother, Linda Tibbs & father George Tibbs. Survivors: wife of 58 years, Eloise Mink Tibbs; brother, Willard Tibbs; sisters, Lemond Carroll & Betty Baird; children: Linda & Richard Brooks, Eddie Tibbs, Shirley & Paul Sweat, Larry & Glenna Tibbs; grandchildren; Ricky, Tommy & Alan Brooks, Pam Millican, Paul Sweat, Jr., Patrick Sweat, Charlotte Noe, Adam Bullock, Rebecca Peterson, Robin & Sheena Tibbs; 18 great-grandchildren; special cousin, Millard Queener and a host of other relatives and friends. She was born November 28, 1928 in Anderson County, Tennessee to the late Fred and Nell Wyatt Diggs. Betty Jo was a member of the Lake City United Methodist Church. She loved playing Bingo, shopping and spending time with her grandchildren. Betty Jo is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bill Worrill, daughter, Donna Gail Robin.
