From The Knoxville News Sentinel 25 Aug 2004 CONAWAY, CARL A. SR. - age 76 of Clinton, RAPER, JESS WILLARD - age 82 of Lenoir City ROBINETTE, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN "FRANK" CONAWAY, CARL A. SR. - age 76 of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at NHC St. Mary's. He was a retired Veteran of the United States Air Force serving during World War II. Mr. Conaway is preceded in death by: his mother, Claudie Hale. He is survived by: two sons and daughter-in-law, Andy Conaway and Tom and Pam Conaway; grandson, Josh Conaway; brother, Paul Conaway; and sisters, Lola Byrd and Judith Gorrell. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of NHC Knoxville. The family will receive friends at Woodhaven Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm. Burial will be Thursday at 10 am in Woodhaven Memorial Gardens. Woodhaven Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens is in charge of arrangements. RAPER, JESS WILLARD - age 82 of Lenoir City passed away Monday August 23, 2004, at the Parkwest Hospital. He was an active member of First Baptist Church and Ivan Tinnell's Sunday School Class. He was a member of Avery Masonic Lodge No. 593 F&AM. Jess was retired from ORNL and was a member of #760 Electrical Union. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and served in WWII. Preceded in death by son, Larry Lee Raper; parents, Cora Kilpatrick and Lon Raper; sisters, Edna Raper Hamby, Vivian Raper Allen and Marcella Raper Williamson. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marion Boothe Raper; daughter, Cynthia Raper Winfree and husband Keith of Louisville, KY.; sons, Lonnie Haynes Raper and wife Suzanne of Minneapolis, MN and Jeffrey Lynn Raper and wife Belinda of Lenoir City; grandchildren: Christopher Raper of Lenoir City, Rochelle Peak, Michelle Madison, Janelle Winfree all of Louisville, Ky., Andrew Raper and Matthew Raper both of Lenoir City and Abigail Rose Raper of Minneapolis, MN.; great grandchildren: Crystal Winfree, Kassandra and Zachary Raper; brother, Jack Dempsey Raper and wife Kate of Chattanooga; sisters, Thelma Raper Dellinger and husband Aubey of Edinburg, VA and Meredith Bush of Kennesaw, GA; special double first cousin, Charlie Raper of Liberty, N.C.; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-7:45 p.m. Wednesday with Funeral Services at 8 p.m. in the Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dick DeMerchant officiating. A Masonic Service will follow the funeral conducted by Avery Masonic Lodge. The body will lie in state from 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Murphy, N.C. Graveside Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Mt.. Carmel Cemetery with Rev. Keith Winfree officiating. Military presentation will be conferred by Janelle Winfree and Commander Joseph. Honorary pallbearers will be: Rodney Lane, Kelly Lane, Ronald Lane, Charlie Raper, Jeffrey Raper, Lonnie Raper and Chris Raper. Born in Duffield VA, son of James S. and Callie Carter Robinette, he and his family moved to Sweetwater in 1917 in one of the last cattle drives into Tennessee. He was retired from Y-12 Oak Ridge. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sweetwater. Frank was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a 50 year member of the Kerbella Shrine Temple of Knoxville, a member of Sweetwater Valley Lodge # 280, Rebekah Lodge #25 of Sweetwater, and a member of the order of the Eastern Star Chapter #381 of Sweetwater. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Harley and Byron Robinette, sister: Nellie Sproles. Survivors include: loving wife: Dorothy Robinette of Sweetwater; daughters and sons-in-law: Betty and Samuel D. Gibson, Carolyn Costner, Jean R. and Dennis Anderson; grandchildren: Caroline Austen, Jaimy Costner, Julie Costner, and Erin R. Allen; great- grandson: Carter Costner; nephews: Ralph Robinette, Thomas Sproles; and a host of friends. The body is at Kyker Funeral Home, Sweetwater, where the family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 25, 2004 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with Masonic Rites and funeral services to follow at 8:00 P.M. in Kyker's Chapel with Rev. Anderson McCulley, and Rev. Phil Holmes officiating. Interment 11:00 A.M. Thursday in the Sweetwater Valley Memorial Park with Military Honors to be provided by the Sweetwater V.F.W.
