Fom The Knoxville News Sentinel 4 Aug 2004 ADKINS, JOHN SCOTT "SCOOTER", JR. - age 14 of Claxton, DAVIS, MARIE J. - of Oak Ridge, TN, GUINN, GERALD RAY - age 77 of Knox County, HICKS, HOWARD JAMES SR. - 80, of Heiskell, LEMONS, GERALD ROY - age 35, of Clinton PEITZSCH, FREDERICK CAMPBELL - WIGGINS, JOHN LUTHER - age 89, of Clinton ADKINS, JOHN SCOTT "SCOOTER", JR. - age 14 of Claxton, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2004 at the UT Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. Funeral Mass 11:00 am Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at the St. Therese Catholic Church in Clinton, TN. Interment to follow the funeral mass at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton, TN. Hatmaker Funeral Home of Lake City in charge of all arrangements. DAVIS, MARIE J. - of Oak Ridge, TN, departed this life on Saturday, July 31, 2004 at Oak Ridge Methodist Medical Center. She was known as "Dut" and was born August 16, 1923 in Selma, AL to the late John Henry and Nannie Jackson. She was married to the late Marvin Davis. Marie is preceded in death also by: two sisters, Rose Mary Nichols and Margaret Powell; one brother, Roosevelt Jackson. She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Terry S. Davis and Mark S. Davis, both of Oak Ridge, TN; grandson, Markie of Oak Ridge, TN; sister, Ola Toddle of Detroit, MI; a very special friend, R.L. Ayers of Oak Ridge, TN; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Marie ("Dut") enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her family. She was a member of Oak Valley Baptist Church, 194 Hampton Road, in Oak Ridge where the family will receive friends on Thursday, August 5, 2004 from 12:00 -1:00 p.m. with the homegoing service to follow. Rev. Dr. Hardil Thomas officiating. Arrangements by Unity Mortuary, 1425 McCalla Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37915. GUINN, GERALD RAY - age 77 of Knox County, passed away at his home Monday, August 2, 2004. He was a member of Concord United Methodist Church for 50 years, a member of Chota Lodge 253 (F&AM), and a World War II Veteran. Ray retired from Lockheed Martin in June 1990 after 43 years of service. During his 43 years, he worked for Monsanto, Union Carbide Nuclear Company, Martin Marietta and Lockheed Martin. He was also employed by Haselwood Enterprises for the past several years. He is preceded in death by parents, George Samuel and Ella Mae Guinn; 4 brothers, Henry A., Samuel Franklin, Ralph Bradford and James Walker Guinn; brother-in-law Vernon Houser. Ray is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janie H. Guinn; son, Paul H. Guinn and wife Kristin; grandson, Joseph Ray Guinn; sister, Gladys Houser; brother, Loness Guinn. Funeral service will be at Concord United Methodist Church, 11020 Roane Drive, at 7:00 P.M. Thursday with Rev. Brent Hall and Rev. Catherine Nance officiating. Family and friends will be received immediately following the service in the Narthex of the Church. Family and friends will meet 10:45 A.M. Friday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for an 11:00 A.M. graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made in Ray's name to: Baptist Hospice and Concord United Methodist Church. Arrangements provided by Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel. HICKS, HOWARD JAMES SR. - 80, of Heiskell, passed away, Monday, August 2, 2004. Born May 23, 1924 to Basil and Grace Lewis Hicks. He was a long time member of Glenwood Baptist Church, actively serving in many roles and a Veteran of WWII. After working 35 years as an engineer at the DOE facilities in Oak Ridge, he retired in 1986. Preceded in death by: wife of 60 years, Daisy Haynes Hicks; and sister, Dorothy Hicks Humphreys. Survived by: sons and daughters-in- law, Terry and Sharon Hicks and Jim and Betty Hicks all of Knoxville; grandchildren, Brittany Hicks of Knoxville, Aaron Hicks and wife Karen of Louisville, KY, Lora Hicks Langlois and husband Jeremy of Johnson City, TN and Brent Hicks and fiancé Mandy George of San Francisco, CA, brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Jewell Hicks of Oak Ridge; and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Mynatt's with service to follow, Rev. Perry Austin and Rev. Dudley Cockrum officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Woodhaven Cemetery. LEMONS, GERALD ROY - age 35, of Clinton went home to be with the Lord Thursday, July 29, 2004. He was the general manager of Window Craft in Knoxville. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was an ordained minister of Southern Baptist Faith. He was an outstanding college student of America in 1992. Survivors: wife, Deanna Lemons of Clinton; son, Ryan Lemons of Clinton; daughter, Bethany Lemons of Clinton; parents,Roy & Carol Lemons of Roanoke, Virginia; mother & father-in-law, Burgin & Pat Housley of Jacksboro; brother, Kevin & wife Amy Lemons of Basset, Virginia; sister, Leann Frith & husband Chuck of Rocky Mountain, Virginia; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends & family. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home with funeral services following in the chapel with Rev. Mike Thompson, Rev. Albert Kitis & Dr. Jerry Lowrie officiating. The burial will be 10:30 Thursday at Grandview Memorial Garden with full military honors at graveside. PEITZSCH, FREDERICK CAMPBELL - A memorial reception will be held for on Sunday, August 8th, from 1 - 3 PM at Weatherford's Mortuary in Oak Ridge. Mr. Peitzsch passed away on May 29th, 2004, in Connecticut where he had been staying for health reasons. Mr. Peitzsch's family invites all to come and share memories of a life well lived. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent the charity of your choice. WIGGINS, JOHN LUTHER - age 89, of Clinton passed away Monday, August 2, 2004 at his residence. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II. Preceded in death by: wife, Lillian Taylor Wiggins; parents, James A. & Lillie Cline Wiggins; brothers, Clyde, Amos, Claude & Mack Wiggins; sisters, Amanda Elliott & Nola Williams. Survivors: step son, William Kelly of Fairmont, Minnesota; sisters, Edna Webber of Clinton, Lucille Adkins of Dayton, Ohio; several nieces & nephews. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, August 5, 2004 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home with funeral services following in the Chapel. The interment will be 10:30 am, Friday at Bethel Cemetery with full military honors at graveside.
